I got a PS3(and a X-box 360...and a Wii), A Video game recomendation thread

I just went out and got me a PS3. Any Recommendations of any games I should be looking at?

Note 1: Already have Disgaea 3 and Bayonetta.

Note 2: Not interested in CoD:MW2 or the like.

from the few games i have played myself, i would recommend "Valkyria Chronicles" and "Tales of Vesperia".
i guess you should have heard of them already since they are quite well known.
you could try "Cross Edge" which has a mix of character from various other games (including Disgaea).

Go to the Sony shop and download the demos of any games they have there that you are interested in.
There are plenty of demos (including Valkyria Chronicles)
And I found that the ones I got were playable more than enough to gauge my interest in the games.

So I guess FPS Online is not your interest? Coz I (and I'm sure erizo) would have 2 suggestions there KZ2 & MAG ...

And of course there are plenty of older PS3 games that are now a lot cheaper!
... though most are only 720p ... even some new ones are 720p and not 1080p ... strange that about Sony ...

Superman II - The Richard Donner Cut

First, pre-order Final Fantasy XIII (don't watch the trailers or you'll over-hype yourself). Next, buy Armored Core: For Answer and jig around with it until you're bored of explosions, flying, and blowing up giant fortresses. After that, buy Little Big Planet and run your little dude through myriads of puzzles.

And finally...once you're bored with all that, buy Demon's Souls. Or alternatively, just stick with Disgaea 3 for the next quarter-year as you go for 100% completion

Uncharted 1, Uncharted 2, and Uncharted 3 whenever they make it.

If you like Bayonetta get the real cornerstone of the genre; God of War Collection is only 35$US and it's the perfect setup for God of War 3 which is coming down next march.

Also, refusing to play FPS nowadays is like refusing to use a celphone; it may not be your thing but you're definitely missing out big time. If you wanna know why it's not because of the SHOOTING thing and such its' because the most successful companies are investing all their money on such type of games and because of this you find that the greatest milestone achievements are almost reached through the FPS genre. I don't like Call of Duty Multiplayer but I thoroughly enjoyed both MW1 and MW2 single player campaign.

i disagree. a guy doesn't have to play FPS if they don't want to, even if all the big boys are investing capital in it.

I guess it's not a "have to buy" as much as it is missing out on the advances in graphics gaming quality ... though some of the car racing games are way amazing also

I've been playing FPS since the original DOOM game way back when it was first made and every so often (still even now) a new one comes out that makes me want to get into the environment and just wander around and look at it in real time while playing
... still waiting for Doom 4 ...

mm, perhaps, but if you mean graphically there are games from other genres that look impressive as well. I've played MW2 and the realism is amazing, but not every gamer looks for realism.

FFXIII is great. You'll never be lost and wondering where you're going next so you get right down to playing the story. The graphics and animation are great, especially if you've got a HD ready to work with it. Heck Famitsu gave it an almost perfect score!

No, seriously. This bulshit about FF is simply because newschools like WRPG which shouldn't be a problem for you, since you're oldschool like me. You'll feel quite at home with Final Fantasy XIII if you liked other Final Fantasy (Yes, I played the Japanese version already since my friend bought himself a PS3 lighting bundle last christmas) so I'm talking from experience.

I think Final Fantasy will end up being regarded as Metal Gear Solid 4, everyone complained too much CS. Now that the hype is gone and the 360trolls are gone it's regarded as the 2nd best MGS, ever.

Wasn't FF13 extremely linear?

FFX was extremely linear (they even pointed your way with a nice RED ARROW in the mini map. What's your point?
The 32Bit games where you had control of the whole world have been over for over 10 years. Get over it.

No wonder I haven't been playing too many modern games.

Ever since FFIX it's the same bullshit:

-This is not a real FF, characters look like cartoons.
-This is not a real FF, it's too linear.
-This is not a real FF, it's online wtf.
-This is not a real FF, no turn based or separate fighting area.
- and now.... This is not a real FF, it's too linear and has too many great looking videos that make almost every game I love and treasure look like !@#*.

Hey man, I don't play FF. Did a little of 7, 1-3, 12, etc. Don't look at me like I'm some retrofag, I just don't really like games that are too linear.

Linear doesn't make a Final Fantasy game (or any other for that matter) good or bad as long as they know how to make the game.

The funny point about that is that most people that play RPGs unconsciously wish it was linear and try to make it that way ...
by completing it as quickly as possible in the shortest way possible ...
i.e. trying to make it linear

I have a habit of going off on a tangent and wandering around the game world and getting to places your not supposed to go or not supposed to get to until later ... I tend to 'explore' ...

Since when does me asking for good games turn into a Kota vs. Erizo FFXIII fest? I already know that 13 will be in my future eventually. Instead of hearing you bicker, I'll play me some Bayonetta.

Wait a month or so afterwards and it should drop a bit in price ...

Though, conversely, I'm not sure if it will drop much in price coz there are 2 games I've been trying to get that have been around for a long time for the XBox360: Star Ocean and Tales of Vesperia

I only got Star Ocean recently coz it had a half price sticker on it ... ended up being $40 - not bad for a 3 DVD game ... still haven't had time to play it

But Vesperia has never gone below $79 any of the shops where I've looked for it, so I'll just keep waiting ...

Katamari Forever - my kids didn't like the demo of that so I didn't bother getting it
Folklore - didn't like the way you often didn't have full freedom of movement ...
Ratchet & Clank - fun if you like those types of game - I usually do ... for a while ...

the bug is caused by the clock when switching from the date feb 29 - march 1

It's already march 2 here so I think most of us will have their PS3 fixed

Got Atelier Rorona: Alchemist of Arland the other day and played it today.
Why? Coz it was anime-ish and only cost $29 new

After about an hour of play I decided I'd had enough (yeah I'm not that thrilled about playing a whole game as a moe teenage girl) ... but there's a good side to that coz I decided I've finally found another PS3 game my daughter should like
(though I'm not sure about if it gets inappropriate later ... after what Astrid said to Rorona about sleeping with her - and the write-up comments I've seen that mention "perverted jokes" ... but anyway ... I'll see if she likes it anyway)

So far the only games she's played lots of are Little Big Planet, Eye Pet, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and Prince of Persia (she's 10)

I don't really want to play Atelier Rorona for hours (apparently it's about 15 hours to play once through) but I wouldn't mind seeing some of the story as someone else plays it

There's also a sequel in J (Atelier Totori: Alchemist of Arland 2) - 5 years later - that hopefully will get a US/Aus release also if it's any good.

@Jop - if you happen to drop by - what is Bayonetta like?
Is it actually fun to fight (yeah I know the main character is a female) or does it get tedious?
I got and played 99 Nights on XBox360 and thought it was OK for a few days (even though you play as a female teen) - just to give you an idea of what I've played that may or may not be similar.
I keep seeing it priced way down low lately so I'm wondering if it is worth getting.
