So, I've seen that some of you are interested in resume scanlation of Negima. I'd like to lead this revival. Here's a list of the people we could use:

5-10 raw providers
3-5 Japanese translators
2-3 Latin translators
2-3 editors
1-2 proofreaders

I myself will help out with the Latin, editing, and proofreading. So, anyone interested in helping out?

Mind if I hide over here a bit? You know, so I don't get caught up in all the yelling?

I feel obliged to comment since I was personally responsible for dropping the Negima scanlation. We had 80% of the necessary staff but failed after many attempts at recruitment to get the remaining 20%. Once Negima was being scanlated by up to 10 different groups at a much faster pace, and "different" quality to AQS, no one was interested in joining up and helping, and the enthusiasm of some of the existing staff was dropping off. Now I appreciate your enthusiasm for continuing it, as it means you prefer the AQS way of doing things, and it may well be that there is staff available now that wasn't there a year ago.

However 2 things make this idea futile.

First, Negima is drawing to a close, and it is guaranteed the enthusiasm for this awesome manga will drop to a mere fraction of what it currently is once the story is finished, even if people have only read speedlations of it.

Second, we do not scanlate or fansub anything that is currently licensed, and with Negima that means existing volumes from Del Rey. The current volume has already reached the last chapter we scanlated and surpassed it, so that would mean that if you wish to continue where we left off, you'd be doing licensed chapters. We will not condone that under the AQS banner. That means you'd have to start at chapters beyond the current Del Rey releases and miss some chapters. That will likely be an unpopular move.

The only reason for doing an AQS release of it would be to do it our way, or alternatively for archival purposes. You are unlikely to find enough staff to do it for reason 1, and we cannot condone reason 2. Therefore I suggest you quietly forget this idea.

@GeekAtLifeMeter: Might I suggest ...

If you are good at what you say, then go find a Negima! scan group and help them out - to make their releases more acceptable smile.gif

I'm sure there would be many who would be happy to see one of the current Negima! scanlations improved

Proofreading is really bad on some of them. So - if you are good at that - you could also help some group out that way and make a speed scan out there more worth reading.

Oh, that stinks. Oh well, thanks for the help anyways! Let me know if you want help proofing!

Edit 1: I wasn't going to be doing the chapters Del Ray has released; apart from the rules, what would have been the point?

I`m willing to accept it.
Just let it be.
I`m happy that you guys are doing Nogizaka.
I really missed your credits jokes.

I cant wait for another world ep.3 from you guys(hasnt seen it, been waiting for AQS version)

Time really does fly its amazing where Delrey have gone upto in terms of the story and it seems like vol.27 will be released about a month earlier than their previous releaes.
Oh yeah, I completetly support and am very happy that AQS will not release liscened titles.
The people who make this stuff go through alot of hard work after all. If its available in your language and region you may as well support the title and the mangaka by buying it.
It does tick me off a little whenever I see an epiosde or chapter that has already been released officially.

As you said in the coming months Negima Magister Negi Magi will or at the very least does appear to be reaching its conclusion so yeah there little point for AQS to continue from the current chapter for various reasons.

Should Akamatsu start a new project after Negima I hope AQS will have the necessary staff ready as soon as Akamatsu announces it.

Actually would you guys doing AKamatsu`s next project?

Thanks SG, it's reassuring to see people believe in our values. Most of us who scanlate actually own the raws of what we do, and often both the raws and the official English releases when they come out.

As for Akamatsu's next project, to be honest I had completely forgotten that he might do something else tongue.gif. Strangely, when he was doing Love Hina he announced and started Negima long before he finished Love Hina (around volume 8 or 10 out of 12 if I recall correctly), but he has announced nothing this time. It is well known that he has health problems (in a bad back) that makes it hard for him to do any actual drawing himself for extended periods. Most of the work is done now by his staff instead. I don't know if that means he isn't going to do another project or not, but he hasn't announced anything. At least for the immediate future, he'll be working on the upcoming anime releases of Negima, including more OVAs, likely a new series and rumour of a movie as well. Still, it would be unusual for a mangaka to give up manga.

I wasnt aware of Akamatsu`s health problem.

If he does happen to announce anything I hope you guys will be ready for it.

Even I`m kind of confused as to the status of the anime.

I dont mean to sound rude but roughly how much longer till you sub another world ep.3?

Unfortunately I can't tell you timewise how long, but this should give you some idea of progress:

Well, like I said, if you guys want any help, just let me know! Since I'm not going to school in the fall (I'm waiting before I go to college)and am currently unemployed, I should have plenty of spare tim in which to help out.

Thank you very much for your offer of help. The jobs that you could help with such as proofreading are currently well subscribed, so even though we realise we are quite slow, it is because of the more specialised tasks such as karaoke typesetting, afx and so on that delay us. We have enough staff in those areas, they're just relatively busy with real life. Coordinating more people who we have no prior experience with to do these jobs is actually harder than using our existing staff.

the majority of the problems came from the editing side of things. if you gather enough members to revive a quality negima scan team, keep this in mind, editing in negima without cutting corners is a pretty arduous process. in the end, what killed us wasn't speed scans (IMO - we fared pretty well against speed scans), it was the breakdown in the editing sector. most of us lost motive to continue editing for one reason or another. several just disappeared. this is a common tale among scan groups.
