toph changed nicer. people said all she was, was mean. now she was a little motherly to Aang, then katara was like no its ok, like toph would do.

Yeah, the reason why she's nicer now is because she never had any friends until Aang came along.
...and she's used to doing things by herself, so when she joined the gang, so was independent and only really helped when they were under attack. So then she learned teamwork.

I love Tokka! But I also love Zutara. So I don't have a ship for Aang. But I really think Kataang is adorable but I don't really like obvious ships. Taang is cute too but I can't figure out any proof for it.
