Title: Good--No, GREAT--Family Movies?

A:TLA - December 10, 2007 12:18 AM (GMT)
Well, since me and my family cracked up SO hard during Home Alone 3 (except my brother; he's four and he didn't get it...even when the people got hurt, lol), I've been wondering what movies are great for families to watch?

You know, since it was a blast watching that movie, I want that experience to happen again.

So what movies are great for families to watch together?...But isn't very gory and such.

And preferably funny? :D

Thanks! ^_^

Sakura-Chan - December 10, 2007 01:24 AM (GMT)
Well,if you don't mind a quick promenade to the Theatres, try Bee Movie.
It was the most fun I ever had~ <3

EarthBender - December 10, 2007 02:38 AM (GMT)
Nacho Libre is gut busting funny.

The original Star Wars trilogy is great.

Mark Hamill who plays Luke Skywalker also does the voice
for Fire Lord Ozai.

A:TLA - December 10, 2007 08:39 PM (GMT)
Thanks, people! ^^

Hmm, the Bee Movie sounds good...:.

Now I just have to convince my mom to bring us to the movie theater. <<;;

Nacho Libre?...I remember those commercials...XDDD I'll see about that...

...But Star Wars is a no-no. Dad disapproves of that kind of violence...

Any more suggestions, people? :(

maf - December 10, 2007 11:53 PM (GMT)
Second Hand Lions.

I know, weird title but one of the best movies I have ever seen. :D :D Rating's PG, too I believe.

Others that are a little older but still good movies try...

--> Fried Green Tomatoes (may be inappropriate for your brother, but still a good movie if you have the chance to see it)

--> My Best Friend's Wedding (PG)

--> My Big Fat Greek Wedding (PG)

--> Because of Winn-Dixie (PG. And one of my favorites! It's a really good book too. It's one that I always always read when I was younger.)

Hope this helps!! :D

Me, Myself, and I - December 10, 2007 11:59 PM (GMT)
Dr. Suess' How the Gring Stole Christmas! Not the non-animated one, the animated one. The animated one is the best!

I don't find Star Wars violence. It's encouraging peace if you think about it.

Hm... Harry Potter movies are family friends.

Any Charlie Brown movie is also very good. We're watching "I Want a Dog for Christmas, Charlie Brown" on ABC tonight. 8 eastern, 7 central PM. CHARLIE BROWN IS AWESOME! Espiscially "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!"

Lora Elric - December 11, 2007 10:13 PM (GMT)
Umm... I don't watch family movies so I have no idea. xD

EarthBender - December 12, 2007 10:58 PM (GMT)
Star Wars isn't violent.

A:TLA - December 12, 2007 11:00 PM (GMT)
Oh yeah...The Grinch and Charlie Brown movies are great ones...Thanks, BG. ^_^

Star Wars actually does have violence...All these guns...

Besides, Dad doesn't like anything with guns...and most likely not movies PG-13.

Okay then, Lora. Why not movies that're funny, yet're rated PG? :D

Lora Elric - December 12, 2007 11:11 PM (GMT)
Hmm.. Alvin and the Chipmunks is coming out in Theaters on December 14th, it looks funny. I remember one of the chipmunks saying: "That was some help from the love doctor."

A:TLA - December 12, 2007 11:16 PM (GMT)
...What the heck's up with the name?

(looks it up)

LOL!!! I REMEMBER THOSE CHIPMUNKS!!! XDDD

Thanks for telling me about it, Lora! ^-^

That one probably'll be a good one. XD

Lora Elric - December 12, 2007 11:44 PM (GMT)
I think they still air an animated version of the original cartoon on Toon disney. xD

No problem!

Oh! In this one part in the commercial, one of the chipmunks is taking a bath in the dish washer, and this guy opens the dish washer and the chipmunk screams, then the guy tells him to get out and the chipmunk says: "I'm waiting for the rinse cycle." xD

EarthBender - December 12, 2007 11:51 PM (GMT)
Godzilla movies rock.
Not too violent.

Me, Myself, and I - December 13, 2007 12:12 AM (GMT)
Star Wars uses violence, true, but it does actually encourage peace. The Jedi are peacekeepers, and it's about Jedi, so in a sense it encourages peace. And it shows how evil is easy to become, but your never too far down the road of evil. And there's no blood or anything, they cut a guys arm off, and he's like "Ahhh!!" but the blood vessels are singed shut so there's absolutely no blood. Lightsabers use plasma, or super heated gas.

Anyways, Gone Fishin' is funny. I'm not sure what it's rated, but I rented it and I liked it.

Oh, another good movie is about any old Disney movie. Like "Mickey Mouse in Steamboat Willie" is good. It's not even an hour though. And Looney Toons, that's a good show. Sure they aren't movies, but their just as good.

About any movie based off a Dr. Suess book is good. Espiscially the movie of "Green Eggs and Ham". Oh, and Winnie the Pooh is good (Yes, I'm thirteen and I still like that show. My mom does, so don't say anything about it being weird).

Lora Elric - December 13, 2007 01:26 AM (GMT)
A family movie is something that anybody of any age can watch, something that you should be able to talk about in a Church or another place like that, a movie that has no blood and next to no violence, and no blades, and is generally rated G, or PG. Family movies aren't generally sci fi, they are usually a comedy or something most families would enjoy. So if people are cutting arms off that is NOT a family movie. And if it has violence, blood, or blades don't recomend it to A:TLA. xD

I never watched any of them in that post, maf, Emeri. XD Sorry. :(

Stalker. <<;;

...So My Neighbor Totoro is a Japanese film...

And is My Big Fat Greek Wedding really appropriate?...'Cause it doesn't seem so.

maf - December 13, 2007 02:14 AM (GMT)

Isn't that violent? This topic is called great family movies, not post any movie you like here.

EarthBender - December 13, 2007 02:43 AM (GMT)
It is a tad on the bloody side.

...a good family movie is Legend.

Me, Myself, and I - December 13, 2007 03:45 AM (GMT)
Dr. Dolittle is a good family movie (Or atleast everyone in my family likes it. MY brother was nine when he watched it).

Then there's Men in Black. It's funny. (Sci-fi comedy. Will Smith is in it, and Wil Smith is a good actor). Men in Black 2 is also good. Everyone in my family has seen both those movies, even my brother. There's a difference between sci-fi and sci-fi comedy. Sci-fi comedy uses common sci-fi elements in humor.

Over-all, Gone Fishin' is one of the best. It's funny in the flashback to when their kids. But I've listed it already.

I've noticed most comedies though aren't aimed towards people of all ages. Probably a coincident though. Just like everything in my life. And alot of comedies use physical violence. Like Tom and Jerry! Man, that show is the best. An anvil falls on Tom, and he's as flat as a pancake, still trying to catch that darn mouse Jerry. Classic.

Older cartoons for kids had a ton of violence though. Like Looney Toons. They'd shoot each other and just spring back up, it's hilarious. 'specially Bugs Bunny. Got love his line of "What's up, Doc?".

Family comedies like the funny things on Avatar are the kind of comedy I am talking about.

And modern adult cartoons have much more violence, blood, and cussing. As Bella would say, "Bring on the blood and guts!"

A:TLA - December 13, 2007 09:50 PM (GMT)
I know that "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" isn't rated anything above PG-13...but my parents--especially my dad--tend to judge something by the title and something like that.

Kill Bill would definitely NOT be popular around my parents...o.o'

Legend as in "I Am Legend" with dog and Will Smith? That movie that's coming out soon? Or just came out?

Dr. Dolittle...Thanks for that suggestion, BG. ^^ I think that's a good one.

Well, Men in Black is a comedy somewhat like that. It's a family movie. You'd have to see it to know it. It's starring Will Smith, who's an excellent actor in comedies. I mean, there's no strict guide line to what is a family movie.

Dr. Dollittle's original version was crazy. They rode inside a giant snail's shell. And a giant mouth's back. The new one is better, it's good for all ages really.

Oh, the Santa Clause movies by Tim Allen are good movies. Espiscially the first one.

Well youu've never been around my family, have you? Most people here think the funny things in Avatar are boring. They prefer comedies like Men in Black funny, with lines such as "You have all the technology in the Universe, and you drive around in an old cadilac??" which I find alot funnier than anything in Avatar. No offense, anyone, but I don't watch Avatar from humor.

Oh, the Santa Clause movies by Tim Allen are good movies. Espiscially when he kills Santa and puts Santa's clothes on and becomes Santa.

That just sounds idiotic to me. It doesn't sound funny, it makes me want to roll my eyes. There is something wrong with you if you don't think Avatar is funny. You're probally the only Avatar fan in the world who thinks that. xD

Daang... I don't know any more family movies. xD

Buuuuuuuut, have you finished watching the funny episodes of FMA? Those were pretty good... The first episode doesn't have much violence... But it has a scream in the beginning... But Al keeps on sinking in the sand.

"I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY YOU KEEP FALLING IN!"

"I get full!"

"FULL OF WHAT?" *kicks Al and sand topples ontop of Ed*

*Alphonse laughs*

*Ed jumps up and chases Al*

And then I don't remember what happens next... OH! In one episode Ed said: "Who are you calling so short that he didn't grow up because he didn't drink milk!?!?" xD

-----

I'm done now. xD

Me, Myself, and I - December 14, 2007 02:01 AM (GMT)
Well, your just sitting there saying my idea of family movies are wrong. No two people have the exact same sense of humor. Besides, it's how he says it that's funny. Will Smith's movies aren't funny when you type it, because it's his acting that makes it funny.

I just said I don't watch it for humor. I watch it for the action and plot. I watch movies by Will Smith for humor, because their entitled comedies. A comedy, by it's definition, is funny.

You know, I just remembered I was going to say Bambi is a good family, movie, then I realized I don't like it because it portrays humans as evil. It's like nearly all Disney animated movies with animals as the main characters. A bit repetitious, I do say.

My point is, my idea of a family movie is obviously going to be different than your's, Lora. I mean, I think Men in Black is a good family movie becuase everyone in my family liked it. Maybe the next family didn't, but the same can happen with any movie that comes out. Maybe to Sally (Example-purpose name. I don't know anyone named Sally) likes comedies like Men in Black and such, but Timmy (Another name I don't know anyone with) likes comedies like Napoleon Dynamite.

What I'm trying to say is, unless you have proof something isn't a family movie due to content, you can't say it isn't a family movie. To me, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory isn't a family movie, but it is to most people. Like the Wizard of Oz (which was weird.) is different to everyone. You know what I mean, I hope, because I'm not saying your points are wrong, I'm just saying your saying my opinion of a family movie is wrong.

Yes I know that, I just posted what I thought on it. xD I didn't say it wasn't a family movie, I just said that line made me want to roll my eyes. xD

I know what's wrong with you! You have a glitch in your brain, like Bella! xD

Bambi was good when I was little, I remember back then when I was four, I was obsessed with the Little Mermaid movies. I remember that I used to count every fish and sea creature I saw every time I watched it, and eventually I got up in the thousands, and eventually I quit. xD Wizard of Oz was fine, I don't remember my opinion on it.... OH! I used to love this movie called 'The Mouse Hunt'. Super funny, some violence though, like Home Alone. It's about this two guys who are obsessed with killing this mouse when it ruins them, but they can't seem to kill it! The mouse outwits them every time. xD

Oh, Mouse Hunt is a good movie.

I just remembered about the "A Series of Unfortunante Events" movie. That's a good movie. If only the other books of the series also had a movie, instead of the first three. Oh well.

Oh, and then there's also "Grumpy Old Men" which is hilarious (I only saw the sequel, but if the original is as good as that it's funny).

A Series of Unfortunate Events was good.

The Chronicles of Narnia: the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe was REALLY good. But it does have some battle scenes and I think a little bit of blood. The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian is supposed to come out in July too.

I saw the first and second version of that movie. Do not make me watch the original again. When that Aslan guy flew, it looked like a stuffed dead lion flying over a plastic model. The new version is better I do say. Though the books are better, because your head makes the graphics for only you to see.

*gags* KILL THE ORIGINAL VERSION! I remember we had to watch them at my old school. *gags again* Yes, I agree with you on that. Like I imagine what characters look like, even if they don't even look like that. xD
