The Atlas mountains are home to a wide range of animals, some of which have become extinct in recent years, but this is a brief look at some of them.

One of the most common is the Barbary ape, sometimes called the Barbary Macaque. the resemble apes because they have no tails but are actually monkeys.
They often live in groups called 'troops'

Another common Barbary animal is the Barbary Sheep. they live in small herds, normally family groups. The Atlas mountains where also home to the Atlas Bear A subspecies of the brown bear, also africas only bear until it recently became extinct.

A scarier inhabitant of the Atlas mountains is the Barbary Leopard
they are considered critically endangered today, they may even be extinct.
They closely resemble their African cousins.

But Probably the most famous of all is the Barbay Lion. with a mane that goes all the way to its stomach! it is critically endangered as well as the Barbary Leopard.

All the animals are available Here Except for the Barbary Lion which can be found Here

The Barbary ape is in AA

On the trail of the Barbary Leopard

Recently there have been reports of the Barbary Leopard on the foothills of a Moroccan mountain near the Barbary coast, we decided to check it out because the Barbary leopard is very rare now, some even think it is extinct.

It's summer in the dense Forest on the foothills of the Atlas mountains, In the distance you can see the Barbary coast. I couldn't resist taking a few pictures of the more common local wildlife like these Barbary Sheep. they're very common, a few hours later we saw more Grazing in a Clearing.

We decided it was time to head back to camp, but the next day we saw a small troop of Barbary Apes eating flowers on a hilltop, we also found This
it appears to be a carcass of a Barbary sheep, but it looks very old and because the Barbary apes are here, it's unlikely the leopards are still around.

After a few more days of trekking across the forest we got a report of a sighting to the south, we headed in it's direction and found Another Carcass, a fresh one!

We decided to stay nearby because there is still meat, so the leopard will probably return. Just before we were about to return to camp there was a loud cry from one of the Barbary sheep, we looked over the edge of the cliff to see The Barbary Leopard! Chasing one of the Sheep It probably wasn't hunting though because She already has a kill. We quicky retreated to a bush and watched as the Leopard Walked past us and Climbed up the hill to her Cave. We waited till she was asleep before we returned to camp with evidence that the Barbary Leopard is not extinct.

We will take these photos to the morrocan government, so that they can set up a nature reserve to protect them, and the Barbary apes which are also Vulnerable.

During the summer me and a few other explorers set of for the Himalayas, We hadn't been expecting to see any wildlife but we actually saw a lot so i though I'd share a few photos with you.

One of the first animals we saw was
This gorgeous male Himalayan monal

later that day we also saw a small heard of Markhor
and further down the valley we saw a group of Takin Grazing

We moved on, not seeing anything for a week or so, untill we stumbled across a rare Snow Leopard. On the last day of our hike we saw These.
We took several pictures of them Because we're not sure what they are

Anyone know?
