I played this game too and was intruiged to read this topic here
http://www.brighthub.com/video-games/mmo/articles/44427.aspx

I will use personal MMO experience and WAR experiance to answer each point the article brings up. The below written portion willmake more sense if you've read the article.

1. No third realm: Ok, I hear them. Good point, but of course the only third realm could have been something like Orcs/Goblins and Ogres or something...I don't think a DoW would have made a strong enough faction alone. The biggest MMO WoW used two factions. So I wouldn't call this the main point, not at all.

2. Too Much Crowd Control: Interesting. But again, I quote stuff in WoW like a rogue totally locking a clothy down so they die before they can even move, (if they don't have pvp trinket in slot). Yes WAR has more of it, with more classes. An interesting point though that I really hadn't thought of.

3. Horrendous Lack of Class Balance: Oh boy, this is the one that gets the players chomping and foaming. It was always a concern in the back of my mind, but I just enjoyed playing the game and living in the Warhammer world. For me, this even wasn't such a biggy as it was to some people. Maybe that's because I'm used to playing a WoW priest and getting deathgripped out of my group right into the enemy's...
Although this article does mention Bright Wizards and Warrior priest as worst. Yeah I can see that. But of most interest here, they're both order side. Oh how the destruction side suffered on -every- server damnit.
QUOTE
Some of the balance issues noted here are supposedly being worked on, but the damage is done and hundreds of thousands of former subscribers are unlikely to give the game another chance after suffering horrible class balance for months on end.

4. Lack of Population Balance: Oh boy. The state of things after the game had settled in was that Destro was outnumbered and beaten on every server possible, pretty much. Destro had one server, K8P that it was stronger on, and then not always all the time. It came in spells. So i found this point almost in reverse of the actual truth.

5. Meaningless PvP that Lacked Emotional Connection: I never played DAOC, but the comparisons seems fair based on what he's saying here. Yes the RVR Scenarios were better than WoW's BG's by a long shot. More variety of levels and tasks therein.

Yeah, the crafting was poor. LOTR was better even.

Some interesting things to think about, but for me, they missed the main point. No bloody optimization! I have a decent PC that struggles to play WAR even half decently. This is a common problem, not the players fault but the devs fault. That is the main reason I left. The game stuttering constantly while I try to quest (on comes the nausea) and the hideous RAM meltdown in RVR warbands.
