| I found dimensionX from Wikipedia game engines article and it claimed this was a java based game engine.
It is not.
It is a propitiatory script engine which is only suitable for creating 1970's style adventure games.
I expected a robust java library filled with all sorts of method and classes to simplify animated graphics, sound, ui and ai - instead I found virtually nothing.
My mistake really and the fact this project is misclassified as a game engine in Wikipedia .

Actually, you are leaving with a wrong or incomplete understanding of this game engine--and it definitely is a game engine for developing web-based multiplayer games.
While the majority of the documentation mentions the original script-based aspects of game development, the implementation is in Java and Java developers can go far in coding games in Java and largely bypassing much of the scripting engine.
I have tinkered in that realm and there is some documentation about the custom hooks for Java-based processors in one of the Guides.
