Okay, here's the deal.

I'm goin' somewheres for a couple of weeks. During this time, I will have nothing to do, but I will not have access to mi computadora. That means I will not have the capability to update.

"But can't you save your files onto a laptop and work on it where you're going?"

Well, uh, I could..... But I can't. I've actually been told I should do this, but, if you didn't know, it takes a couple of hours just to produce one comic. Where I'm going, I'll be doing things all the time and won't have time to do all this stuff.
So, sorry.

Don't worry these boards will still be active. The newly installed mods will help handle things.

But.......

I'm not going to let myself waste such time. I don't swing that way. So I have decided, that during my absence I shall work on creating a Cool Aviators graphic novel. That's right, a full blown graphic novel. I plan to create a story using said comic book form, and I will somehow get it onto the internet. I will draw it, with pencil, and most likely ink it too. I will then scan it onto my computer, edit it, maybe add some photoshop and some color, and type the dialogue. I will use a unique drawing style (preferably stick figures) that will allow myself to accomplish images that in most cases would be impossible to perform. Also, so it would be easier to draw and would take less time.

It's a good thing that I posted this now. If I waited too long I'd lose the urge to keep on planning for this baby. Posting this here will give me push into actually creating the book.

So, if anyone knows a good way to actually put it onto the internet, that would be great. I don't want to put it onto my Smackjeeves site because it would be out of place and long. I might put it onto a pdf file or something. If someone has a good idea, tell me.

I'm writing the story as we speak (sort of) and would really like some ideas. I want the story to have as less popculture references as possible so that it could be read by anybody at any time.

So, questions, suggestions, and tips would be nice.

-Johnny

Cool. Well, you could always scan it on... But that's just me.

Try using imageshack maybe and mirror them over here? Or put each page in one individual file each and upload them to here to see them. I can always increase the max. storage limit for you to do this.
Then, on your website, post that you made it, and say you can only get it on the forums.
Maybe?

That sounds like it'll be pretty awesome, I'm looking forward to it. Oh and by the way, I sent you a PM Johnny, telling you the link to the new forum.

And what the hey, I'll just post the link here, it's not like any trolls are watching. If you're a member of doobadoo, then you're welcome to this place.

Maybe you should just sketch out the plot. Graphic novels aren't the shortest things to do. If you draw, you could scan it, but if you don't have a decent scanner, then it won't come out well.

So, if you came up with black-and-white drawing sketches and re-drew them, it'd take a really long time but save you some pain uploading. I don't know which is more of a hassle. If you have a good scanner, you might as well draw it out, but make sure you are able to write neatly for the speech bubbles.

Story: you have some compelling characters, so you can create character conflicts in addition to real-world conflicts. I had always envisioned Johnny as a vigilante cop of sorts for some reason, so you could play off the whole buddy cop motif without actually making a specific pop culture reference.

Well, I am planning to scan it onto my computer. But I don't know how I'll put it onto the internets. I might put it onto a pdf file, and tell members that if they want it they have to email me, then I'd email them back the file, and if they really felt like it they (or you) could just print it out and staple it together, making it into comic book/graphic novel form.

And how the story is progressing, it will be a buddy road adventure, featuring Johnny and Scott on an epic adventure. Mel's not going to be a main character because three's a crowd and stick figure women are hard to draw. It would kind of be like the Spongebob movie, you know, Sandy the squirrel wasn't in that movie for some reason. But there will always be room for a sequel with her.

And the whole mythology of the creation of Johnny is kind of funny. I think I first created the idea of the character (in my head) as my brother. When my brother decided to grow his hair out he wore a trucker hat (that he got at a truck dealership) and road around in his truck wearing cheap aviator sunglasses. I told him that all he needed was a mustache and sideburns and he'd be a true trucker. I later realized that this would be a great character.
My brother and I made movies together and I told him we should make a movie about this character that I had created. My brother said no because he was jerk, so the character sat in the back of my mind for a while. The character evolved from a trucker, and became something more. Yes, I think I did have plans to make a movie about this character as a policeman, and even a secret agent.
One time, when I was thinkin' up a plot about a feature length film that had to do with two characters bringing back together a seperated band and making them play in a battle of the bands type concert. I wanted one of the main characters to be normal and the other to be wild and cool, a leader of sorts. I then went, "Heeeey! I'll use that trucker guy I made up!"
First, the character was named David Sanchez. A normal name that would work for the mustachioed hero. Then, after my brother came home from one of the many desk jobs he had, he told me that he was going through files of would-be employees, and one guy was named 'Johnny Guadalupe'. He told me that's what the character's name should be. So I chose that.
So, somewhere out there, there really is a guy named Johnny Guadalupe. Weird.
So later on, the chararcter kind of evolved from that. He's sort of a combination of Ace Ventura, Kramer from Seinfield, and a bunch of characters that are simliar to that.

And yes, I really want to use motifs in this book.

There's going to be ninjas in it for gosh sake.

Oh. I didn't know that.

I was just always used to making a reply to lost topics because usually Harry Callahan always has to keep the most worthless topics at the top, while he ignores the important ones.

Anyways, I should also say that during my absense I will allow anyone to make guest comics. There won't be a contest, but I'll look through the forum from time to time and if I see that someone has posted a guest comic, I'll put it on the site.

And if you want (you don't have to) you can make the comic about the side characters (Scott or Mel) or any other random characters that have nothing to do with the comic strips, as if Johnny is absent for some reason.

So, that's always open.

Yeah, everything's going good so far at where I am. Sort of.

And I also found out that the graphic novel thing is going to take a while. A long while. If I were to be pessimistic (SP) then I'd have to say that the comic will probably be finished in December. Yeah. I found out that making a really long (and good) comic book is really hard to do.

And the book may even be delayed for longer because I'm going to some film thing for a couple of weeks; I probably won't have that much time during then.

But don't worry. I'll try hard. Maybe if I try hard enough, it willl really be published in hardcover!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

Why don't I know anyone? Why can't I be from Florida, too?

Also, do you have a plot arc in mind yet, or is this likely to just be an extended series of related strips that doesn't rise to one conclusion in particular?

Okay, here's the deal. This shall be hard to accomplish because I'm using a computer somewhere in the middle of the mountains, and the computer has a weird bitten apple on the side, and instead of an "enter" button there's a "return" button.

What kind of crazy world is this?

For one, a bunch of people here are not from Florida. Like Australia.

For two, Florida does not suck. It is cool. We have theme parks.

For three, the comic will be one story.

There.

Yeah, cept now I'm down to a mod I can't fix it.

EDIT: Back to Admin, it should be the very last topic you mods should see. Please tell me if you can see it, and tell me if you can see anything else, because I don't know if you can see the Admin topic. Thanks.

I'm back.

New comic up.

New changes.

Graphic novel is not done. I shall work on it, but with summer drawing to a close, finding good time to work on this thing seems slim. I definitely wish that I had some sort of time machine like Dr. Who or Rufus from Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure so I could go back to the start of the summer and tell myself to start working immediately. I'd probably cause some sort of time paradox and obliterate the universe, but at least I'd have accomplished farther in the book.

Oh, well. I will be very busy* for a while.
