Miles laughed now. "You are so unlike the other young ladies that I've met thus far," He said with a grin. "That it should not surprise me in the least."

All feelings of jealousy were forgotten along with thoughts of the young gentleman. Miles began to greatly lament the fact that he would soon be called on to leave Bath, though only for a little while. He thought of telling her of the situation, but he decided against it. Most probably, it did not matter to her whether he stayed or went.

"How long have you been in Bath?" Miles asked her, hoping that she would, in her reply, also disclose how much longer she would remain in Bath.

Lucy smiled and chose to pretend like this was a compliment, though she was not at all sure. She walked around another dancer, waiting until she was back next to Mr. Daventry to reply.

"Only since yesterday," She told him. It seemed like it was longer than that, as today spent shopping had been rather long. It was enjoyable however, which almost made it seem longer, for one always tries to drag out the enjoyable in their thoughts as long as possible.

"Only since yesterday?" Miles repeated with mock surprise. This gave him hope, as no one came to Bath for less than a week, and most stayed over a month at least.

"Then you have not seen a concert or a play or anything of the sort, I suppose?" He asked, trying to think of more reasons that would convince her to stay longer. "One cannot come to Bath without seeing at least one dreadfully boring play and one excessively lengthy concert." He teased. "It would be a waste of a trip otherwise."

Lucy shook her head. "No, indeed, I have not," She told him, "though I am quite looking forward to seeing both, dull they may be." She was about to ask him how long he would be in Bath, and if he were going to either soon, so that perhaps she could arrange to be there that same night; but she noticed the same man watching her again, and quite forgot all about it. She looked away quickly.

With that question quite out of her mind, she tried to think of something else to say. She did not like to make him carry on the conversation with no help. "What is your favorite part of Bath, so that I shall be sure to see it?"
