Title: New Pornographers

I'm totally late to this band... only got into them last year but I think their albums are really rather super.

Anyhow i'm very excited about them playing in London in May.

Anyone else a fan?

From what i believe Neko still records with the band but only performs on stage with them when they're both in the same area.

Kathryn Calder is the permanent NP lady these days Kathryn Calder interview

I think Dan Bejar is my favourite NP though... he's like an indie evil uncle...an indie Alice Cooper... i love this bit in Myrid Harbour... where he drools out the final yoooooooou in a sarcy alice kinda way

"Someone somewhere asked me
Is there anything in particular I can help you with?
All I ever want to help with was you"

LOVE the Bejar.

Famously I am not a Neko Case fan but I do love Kathryn Calder - everyone should definitely check out her other band (which pre-dates her joining the NPs), Immaculate Machine. They're kind of in the same vein as the New Pornographers, though probably leaning more towards the 1900s (NOT 1990s) which is interesting because I don't really like female singers most of the time, but Kathryn Calder and the ladies from the 1900s are both/all amongst my exceptions (I'm sure it'll surprise no-one that knows me that Kate Pierson and Cindy Wilson are at the top of that exception list).

Edit: and they play the day AFTER I leave London on my April/May trip this year. Gutted (but can't change flight dates due to stupid people I've been really close friends with for more than ten years choosing to get married. What, they couldn't have asked me if their wedding might interfere with me going to a concert before they booked a venue?).

As is their way, it took 5 listens for the latest New Pornographers album to go from me thinking "Yeah it's alright" to "Oh how i love it... lets listen to from start to finish again".

The one to download is "Crash Years"... truly irresitable guitar pop.
