Does anyone still listen to Alan McGee? Other than The Sun?
By the 2015 election, he'll be emigrating if Labour get back in and put up his taxes. |

oh Dear me, for the life of me I cannot fathom why he's gone and stuck his oar in like that.
"at least david cameron looks like a prime minister"?! pathetic. sounds more like the blurb that gets attributed to page 3 girls "Our Page 3 stunner, Galaxxie Toolshed, is happy to offer her 'support' to Big Dave! She would just love to meet him in the FLESH, cos she has a couple of big POINTS she like to RAISE with him" etc... I think this one could well be remembered as the x factor election. Gordon better start getting his moonwalk sorted.... only a matter of time before Simon Cowell backs big dave. I like to think that people aren't daft enough to fall for this kind of shallow boobs driven politics but I'm not so sure. |

I can only think it's been edited in some way. I understand that it's time for a change and that many people are disillusioned with Labour as it stands right now, but that doesn't mean the Tories are a decent alternative. And I can't believe that McGee believes that either. Also it doesn't make sense. He slagged off New Labour for being the Tories in disguise, and then goes on to praise...the Tories. Ridiculous. |

If he did say 'I thought we were changing the world back then' 12 years ago then he's a bigger arse than I thought. Maybe I missed it but what actually, did McGee, Noel Gallagher et al do for New Labour other than having free beer and photos at Downing St? At least Red Wedge in the 80's did some benefits and went to Party Conferences I think, which shows a bit more commitment.
Which leads me on to, can you like music by people who's politics/lifestyle choices you don't agree with. e.g Gary Numan was a massive Thatcherite apparently but I didin't know at the time. When Jonathan King was exposed was no big deal obviously but I quite liked some Gary Glitter songs. Discuss. |

I'm sure I like lots of music made by Tories. That doesn't bother me too much, as I'm also sure I like lots of music made by complete wankers/idiots. But Gary Glitter is another case entirely. What he did was horrific, and his music was based around a cult of personality. Even a song like "Rock'N'Roll", which is great in theory, is centred on a kind of football crowd bravado, with Glitter at its core as The Leader - and when you're no longer willing to accept him as The Leader, the whole conceit falls apart. By contrast, a song like "ABC" or "I Want You Back" still stands up, IMO, even if you believe that MJ was a child abuser - partly because I think it's easy to think of black MJ and white MJ as two different people. Black MJ sang those great songs, white MJ was that freak that may or may not have abused children. We all change in life, and good people become corrupted. Perhaps black MJ was a good person....perhaps not. I know this is super simplistic and naive, but I think it plays a part when people rationalise their love for those old MJ songs. Plus nothing was proven of course, so he may have been innocent. Although judging by the comments made by Priscilla Presley after his death, I have a bad feeling about that one. |

Agree about the two phases/colours of Michael Jackson.
I think it's partly about timing. If you retrospectively find out somebody was a paedophile/rapist or whatever, then it's more difficult to unlike the songs you already like, but not impossible, but to patronise someone you already know is morally corrupt on some level is a definite no-no for me. An artist's Politics does have an effect on whether I dislike something but most of the time you just don't know and wouldn't want to anyway because they're just pop singers and don't have anything to say. We'll find out next that Belle and Sebastian are all into bestiality next. It would give a new slant on 'Fox in the Snow' though. |
