Title: #9: Time for some thrilling heroics
Description: March 14th - March 21st
MarcoSkoll - March 15, 2010 12:07 AM (GMT)
I had a couple of ideas for this topic, but I thought one of them would probably a bit too much effort for a topic near the start of a new season - so I'm going to leave that one for a possible other time.
So, I decided to keep it simple with a bit of an inverse to Topic #6 (Despair, Sorrow and Loathing).
This week, your job is to depict an act of bravery or heroism (thrilling or otherwise). It's a big theme in 40k, and there hasn't been an KWSG based around it for some time.
What you depict is up to you. It could be
straight action movie heroics,
self-sacrifice or even something as simple as someone standing up for themselves.
Pretty basic criteria, but I figure you guys can make something interesting out of it and make your pieces more interesting than just something like a Space Marine doing what's expected of him. Don't forget, the "bad guys" can be brave or heroic too!
For next week, I'm nominating
Cancerman. I've liked his entries for the last couple of weeks, so I figure he deserves it.
EDIT: Damn, if checking your watch for today's date, make sure that today isn't yesterday. (I messed up the topic dates. We're going to run until the close of next Monday.)

FIRST!!! haha, but had some free time, so here goes about 1 hr work.
Cancerman - March 15, 2010 06:58 PM (GMT)
DAMMIT....NOT FIRST :)
LEAVE NONE BEHIND- I wanted to try something not a hero, so I went with the heroine instead :)

Thanks to Marco for the nomination, hope I can find as good a topic as he did!
Russ : Good pose and great idea, except that we know for a fact that Psykers are all vile and evil spawn, that cares little for others, even other despicable Psykers. ;)

I added background and stuff, because of the comments!
C+C welcome

cancerman: haha, thanks! Anyway, they suppposed to be shas'saal, or little firewarriors. But I guess I didn't get the message right. <_< haha, thanks though, its perhaps one of a better B and W I did in a short time. Hopefully I can get better. Anyway, yours is looking awesome, sister power on a copter. Just wish you'll be finishing the thing soon!
Ghillie: Woah, your work has really turned from a normal piece of drawing to an epic one! Perhaps its the background at work, but I do feel a sense of scale in your picture, and that there is a mood oozing out of this picture. Your lines could be neater but it would spoil the movement of the picture. VERY NICE LEAP OF IMPROVEMENT!

Here is mine, based of the song Blow me away - Breaking Benjamin.
El Presedente - March 18, 2010 06:27 PM (GMT)
Since I have never done a fantasy one yet, here's a picture of a Knight fighting a Dragon, the old ones are always the best eh? Just don't ask me where the rest of the dragon is.

I totally forgot what day is it, so deadline was crossed :D Some really nice work this week, but I couldnt notice that there is fewer and fewer entries every week. Whats the problem people, little time, too hard topics or something else. Thumbs up for everyone who is regularly participating in WSG, we cant allowed to let WSG die. Some C&C:
Russ29: You managed to show difference between small poor Tau and imposing Emperors finest. The only crit. would go for Tau leader. His hands seem too short in comparison with body so he looks from back a bit childish.
Cancerman: Nice sketch, your previous work shows that you have talent so I would like to see some finished piece in WSG. Good luck with new topic, I believe that you will come with great idea.
GhillieSniper40k: My favorite this week. With adding just a bit of detail and background your picture came to life. Great improvement I cant wait to see a next week entry.
Firenze: I am not familiar with that song but I presume that it has something with heroic actions. Nice one, you have your recognizable style with sharp edges and nice shading. Bolt pistol is maybe somehow off and too small in my opinion.
El Presedente: I like this one too. When I saw it I wanted to take my colours and put some paint on it. Nice switch from 40k to Fantasy.
My entry for this week represents Sister of battle fighting Daemon Prince of Slaanesh aboard some Chaos/Daemonic ship. She emptied her bolt pistol and then pull out her sword to challenge Daemon to a battle she knew she couldnt win. Through the window in the background can be seen ship from my entry in WSG#7. There are some mistakes in picture most obvious would be lines on walls which arent straight beacuse i done them without ruler. Please c&c welcome.

Wow, lots of good artwork with dynamic poses!
Firenze: Pretty awesome pic, I can sense the fast movement of the marine here. Only bad thing is that the marine seems too angular instead of a little curvy. Sounds a little wrong but its how I feel. Hope it helps.
El Presedente: This looks alot like a mural where stories of untold legends of a knight fighting a dragon would reside in a chapel of some sort. Really nice, you got to add more! Perhaps some colors would help. ;)
Alan: The most detailed work so far, and I like it. For comments and crits, I can't say much because I'm pretty much a beginner myself, but I would say the sister could have more ornate decorations to stand out and perhaps make her more bright to show her divine strength? And the deamon prince should be more lilthe, because it looks a mix strength of chaos gods now, such as khorne and tzeentch. But still, an amazing job.

No problem Russ for c&c, any opinion or side of view is better than none. Yes I now its maybe too muscled Daemon for Slaanesh but they are Daemons and so they have variations :D I first opted for undived Daemon but then as drawing progressed I fonud Slaanesh as hedonistic, perverse god is great counterpart to nuns in power armour. You are right about armour I should have made it a bit ornatier (not sure that is correct word :D ) it does look a bit too plain. To be honest I am not so pleased with this one and there are some things I would done another way.
