Welcome to the first of the Weekly Sketch-Groups in 2009. Today's the 5th of January 2009 - this challenge lasts for seven days until Sunday the 11th.
In the spirit of the sketch-group, don't feel you have to completely finish the work. But feel free to post as many work-in-progress pictures as you would like! The WSG isn't a competition, but a chance to draw something you might not ordinarily attempt, and to feed off the creative energies of other artists. Please, please, give constructive feedback to your other artists! So, here are the categories for this week that should hopefully provide you with some inspiration! JANU-WAAAGH!-RY: Inspired by the latest Ork releases, why not draw a Greenskin? This could be a 40k Ork or a WFB Orc. Civilian: So often we're exposed to the battlefields of the various universes. Why not show us how the civilians look and dress? This could be an Imperial citizen on any ofthe million worlds - the inhabitants of an Eldar craftworld or a Tau colony. High Elves or Bretonnian damsels - let your mind go crazy! Imperial Propaganda Poster: A poster you'd find in an Imperial city - though it's up to you what its purpose is. Perhaps it's encouraging people to join the Imperial Guard? Emphasising the greatness of the Astartes? Ridiculing aliens? Or perhaps advertising a holo-vid. The Barghesi: The Barghesi are an alien race mention in 5th edition lore. The rulebook says that the 'hyper-violent Barghesi' inhabit the Grendl Stars, a constellation once known as the Wings of Sanguinius. It is said they should be avoided at all costs. The newest Marine Codex states the Iron Lords Chapter confine the Barghesi to the Grendl Stars and are fighitng a desperate war to ensure Hive Fleet Kraken does not harvest the destructive biological potential of the Barghesi. And yet we don't know what they look like. Why not show us? |

Cool! Even though I'm a new member, it seems as though this was a dwindling thing.
I'm very interested! |

Coldn't resist the ork drawing. I've spent the last week or so messing with 3 sets of black reach orks and looking through artwork.
This is where I'm at: ![]() Have to admit I dont draw nearly as much as I should. It probably shows in the hands especially and all the other little things that need fixing now I take a closer look I'm not 100% sure if his left arm is too small or if its just because his shoulder is hidden.... Perhaps it stands out because its not a scan but a photo at a slight angle. |

Hi there everyone! Its really good too see Illuminatus back on track, its been a long period of dormancy
I like your ork so far Markay! One thing which would boost it much in my eyes is if you shortened the fingers gripping the choppa, right now they look a bit too long. I thought at first about drawing a Barghesi, but after some consideration something hit me: The Barghesi are supposed to be a hyper violent race... But can any race be more violent than the orks? They have no other purpose other than violence! Anyway here's my contribution, i had to fix it in a bit of a hurry because i will be unable to work on it this weekend. |

Alright then... I'll be closing this one up tomorrow (to give you time to post late entries) and then starting #002. It's a shame that this has had a limited turnout - however, it's more distressing to me that people haven't engaged in commenting on each others' work.
For the next one I'll be emailing all the board users to tell them about the KWSG. Feel free to contribute your own ideas in the suggestions topic. |

I love how fast your bikers are looking Forgefire, nice blurriness and lovely detail on the orks face. He also seems very gorkamorka with more umie-like proportions compared to the newer look orks. Looks great.
Not sure what I'm going to do with mine. I always struggle to get a background done as I always focus on the character. |

Alright Commissar Molotov...
... you twisted my rubber arm. Here's my take on Imperial Civilians, featuring a genuine burn mark from the big smoke I had while I was working at it Hope you all like it. |

I like the working class male, he's got a cool aesthetic. 1 point for you!
This link might be interesting for you if you haven't seen it. It's a selection of Dave Gallagher's concept art for characters in the Dark Heresy rulebook. |

Finally got it done.
Giving the challenge of "design xyz" tends to force me out of my rules! Argh! well, I could draw a pic of Barghesi killing Marines, but to everyone, it would just be random aliens. Maybe I'll draw more Barghesi later... maybe more expository stuff like this... ![]() who knows |
