This week's task is to depict a skirmish - a minor conflict between small forces. The challenge here is to depict two opposing forces. Who'll get the upper hand? These could be advanced parties a force - Space Marine scouts ambushing a traitor Guard patrol, Pirate vessels roaring out of a Nebula to attack transports or even Wood Elf scouts ensuring that invaders never leave their forests alive... |

Ok hear is my entry, i feel it is a slight improvement on my last wsg entry, spent about 4 hours on this. I intended to have an aerial combat skirmish for air superiority in the opening stages of a planetary assault, i fear i may have got carried away and gone beyond a skirmish. Anyway here it is, a chaos hell blade getting a belting from two imperial lightning fighters. Feedback is much appreciated as always.

Wow thats fast, and nicely done Chris! Anyway, the only thing I find 'bad' in your artwork is that the bigger ships look like they are very closeby, perhaps because of your use of colors. Perhaps by darkening the colors can bring the 3 fighters closer.

Thanks russ 29, i see exactly what you mean, Il have a go at darkening the colors, maybe some of the clouds need darkening as well, hopefully that will make the cruisers look more distant, will post the updated version. Thanks for the CC.

Wow I've been a total lurker. I have barely done any art that's not for school. Jeez. Anyway, I really like your drawing Chris Jones.

Thanks 7 skullz. I have the same problem finding time to do my art that isn't for uni, recently i have had to do a project for my foundation year beginning on tuesday. You've just got to take advantage of the times when you get a brake from other commitments in the real world.

Sorry, but I don't think I can take on this week's challenge.
Anyway, hope you keep it up Chris! See you on the next one! |

Hello again... hmm, seems like the recession is sucking the life out of everything at the moment.
@ Chris Jones: That's some very impressive work, well done. I think it can still pass as a skirmish, despite the scale of the scene. Only thing that bugs me a little are the firing angles of the pursuing aircraft... they just don't seem to line up the way they should. Well, here comes mine now. I'm just amazed as to how many topics I can make relevant to Blood Bowl... so here's another one |

Really nice job with smoke and burning debris, Chris Jones! And schwager's piece epitomes greatly both skirmish and Blood Bowl.

I completely agree Schwager, the firing angle is wrong, the lightning fighter that is actually firing, if it is firing at the angle it is, should be firing straight down the picture rather than at the hell blade, i should have corrected the angle of the pursuing fighter. Anyway thank-you for the feedback, it is always good to have some positive as well as constructive feedback. All i can say is that it is a shame there are only two entries forty minutes before the deadline, simply because i love giving and receiving feedback and sharing art with the great artists that submit their art on illuminates. Great work as always Schwager, i love your style, always been a fan of blood bowl.
Russ 29, hope to see you post next week to man. |
