Allow me to explain...
Some of you will be aware that I'm a big fan of the Inquisitor narrative skirmish game published by Games Workshop. Well, it's been out there in the big, bad world for the last six years or so and, frankly, it's in dire need of an overhaul. As Gav Thorpe has been explicit that he won't write a new edition, I decided to do it myself. Now, this is now lame fan effort. I've established myself pretty firmly with GW over the last few years. As well as organizing competitions, meet-ups and events, I'm also now a Black Library writer and run a local wargaming club. I've written a number of articles for Fanatic Online and am the Features/Art editor for Dark Magenta, the Inquisitor fanzine. I also run an Inquisitor mailing list, acting as the central point for all news and events in the Inquisitor world, a Yahoo! group that lets people trade and swap parts for 54mm models and a well-regarded website resource for new players and veterans alike. I've lined up a professional (volunteer) who will turn my laboriously typed Word document into a properly laid-out printer's proof PDF. I am positioning myself to get official GW Studio backing for this project. But what I don't want to have to do is rip out all the old GW artwork from the original rulebook. I can do it, of course. I just don't want to. Just as the rulebook showcases the work of dozens of dedicated players, I'd like it to showcase the work of fan-artists as well. I don't care whether you're a pro or an amateur: I want to be able to put into (virtual) print the art of a new generation of fan-artist. If you think you've got what it takes (check out the original rulebook - I want to match or exceed the quality of the original if humanly possible), let me know. No, you won't get paid. But you will get noticed. R. |

this sounds like a really good oppurtunity career wise and creatively for anyone willing to get involved. kudos to you by the way for taking on the task of re-working the rules)
I'd like to put my name forward , not as a definite "I'll devote every waking hour to it!" commitment mind you but I'll see how much I can contribute along side other things |

Nice to get some enthusiasm for a project.
If you're interested in submitting yourself as a potential contributor, I suggest that you have a look at Dark Magenta. The magazine represents the lowest level of production standards I hope to achieve with Inq 2.0. The artwork in our first issue is basically a bunch of random stuff from my own sketchbook. It can be thought of as the base line for quality. In other words, I'm looking for artists who are (in my mind) "better than me". You should have an online portfolio either at an image hosting website like photobucket.com or at deviantart. If you don't have one, get one. Email me a link to your portfolio at precinctomega[at]btopenworld[dot]com. If I like what I see, I'll line up any relevant pieces in your portfolio for use. I will also come back and ask for images with a specific (broad) theme. It will help immensely if you play or have played the game and have some idea of the sort of confrontations that occur. This is a long-term project. I hope to put the rules to bed within the next six months, with layout and editting taking another six months. This is the time I have in which to persuade Specialist Games to give the project an official green light. R. |

I'm going to bump this old thread for you guys, as Ophidicus has recently contacted me about artwork for Dark Magenta.
I spoke with Jervis Johnson and Gav Thorpe (and John Blanche!!) this weekend just gone about INQ 2.0 and have been given a qualified green light to proceed. I won't go into the ins and outs of things, but the rules themselves are nearly finished. I've lined up a highly-qualified but under-employed crony to turn my clunky Word documents into sparkly, pretty Quark Express documents and I've been given the thumbs-up to make use of GW artwork in the project. But, if possible, I'd like to include a lot of new artwork. And I want it to come from the fan-community, just like the new rules, models, articles and playtesting have done. One of the conditions from GW, though, was that the production values of INQ 2.0 have to be as high as they were in the first edition. It's a high bar. Those of you who've got or downloaded the rulebook will know that it was full of brilliant original B&W and colour illustrations from all of GW's best, including oodles from the Kopinski brothers. But you don't necessarily have to be Karl Kopinski to get into INQ 2.0. As well as conventional illustrations of action and adventure away from the battlefield (but firmly in the 40kverse), I'll be wanting imaginative backgrounds, cut-aways, diagrams and all sorts of bits and bobs that offer a tantalizing glimpse into the 40kverse. Photos, digital art, symbolism, graphic design... So please: show me what you can do. If you want in, send me a link to your portfolio at precinctomega[at]btopenworld[dot]com. If there's anything there that I like, I'll ask about it specifically. If I think your style or skills are up to the mark but nothing in the portfolio is suitable, I'll come back to you will specific requests and commissions. No, there's no money. But there's lots of glory. Let's show both GW and the community what sort of talent we've got out here!! This isn't restricted to Ordo Illuminatus. If you know keen fan-artists on dA, Flickr or in your local wargaming community, art college or school, get them in on the act, too. I'm looking for a hardcore of ten who're prepared to do pro bono work to a professional standard and professional deadlines. Full artistic credit will be given. The usual IP caveats apply, but then they always apply. R. |

Woo!
That lovely man, Commissar Molotov, has given me my own sub-forum! I love you, Martin! Anyway, before things get out of had, let me just say that I'm spending Christmas trying to tempt new people over to OI, now that the spambots have been purged (yay!) and the pr0n deleted (boo! - I didn't say that!). I'm not going to be starting any project threads until the New Year. But in the meantime, there's bound to be a huge demand in the book for illustrations of a general type, so feel free to flex your artistic muscles: look through the existing rulebook (you can download it for free from the GW website if you don't have a copy) and you'll see the sort of thing I'll be looking for: full-page colour illustrations, tiny paragraph dividers, sidebars, page layouts... All of these will get their own project threads in this sub-forum eventually, but get those pencils and paintbrushes scribbling and slapping and show us what you can do in the main galleries. This sub-forum should be for discussing the projects, asking for clarifications and tracking progress rather than posting pictures. That's what the galleries are there for and that's what they should continue to be for. Have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I'll be out there spreading the good news of Ordo Illuminatus, so I hope you will be, too! Regards, Robey |

Rumours of my despotism have been greatly exaggerated. Anyway, I've pinned this thread so that it's above anything else you do. I'll be giving you moderatorial powers asap. |

sweet! I've always loved Inquisitors, though have not had the opportunity to play the game. Definitely count me in as being interested in helping out.
As for a "portfolio" most of my 40k stuff is on this board. Here are some links: castigators My Inquisitor My DIY chapter Ork Stormboy Please keep in mind that most of these are just sketches and not finished pieces. Thanks! - T. |

I HAVE THE POWERRRRR!
Having said that, I will be restricting myself to moderating INQ2 posts and threads only and deleting spam if I see it. For all other matters, I shall defer to the noble Lords Tiberius and Molotov. I'm already seeing new and old talent on the resurrected forum that will be great in INQ2. I think this is going to be great! R. |

Just a question - I presume you have other artists working on this project on the Conclave? Correct me if I'm wrong. Anyway, my question is whether you're going to use this sub-forum to coordinate all the art, or if this is just an adjunct. I think it might be useful (and better for the board as a whole) if things we coordinated here. I'm just curious as to how this sub-forum (and by extension Illuminatus as a whole) fits in with the Inquisitor 2.0 project.

I thought I replied to this thread, sorry. I think I got distracted.
Basically, the Conclave is where I recruit playtesters, dole out samples of the draft rules for general consideration, and get the game itself right. Ordo Illuminatus is, indeed, the "go to" place for art and design in the INQ2 project. I might recruit members at deviantArt (and regularly do promote this site there) and on other forums with sections dedicated to fan art, but if it ain't on OI it ain't in the book. Incidentally, someone mentioned cosplay and props on another forum. I seriously want to include some of this in the INQ2 book - atmospheric art/photomanip combinations using props and cosplay stuff to really bring the 40kverse to life. R. |
