I fixed the picture in hardcopy... but when I tried to scan it again on a different scanner, the result was a washed out mess. So I did a little photoshopping of the gun to correct the worst of the problems. Oh well.

Sketch in the style of the amazing http://sunamori.deviantart.com/
I have learned not to sketch on paper that has printing on one side of it ![]() Not particularly pleased with the results, but they're satisfactory enough as a first attempt at somebody else's artistic ideas, I think. |

Looking good, paying homage to someone elses style is a good way to increase your own skills by working outside your own.

awww dudes sorry to be the bearer of bad news here but you really need to hear that sketching in somebody else's style is bad news! a homage to somebodies art would consist of a fully rendered picture in their style, colours and subject matter, sketching is a learning process which requires reference, research and lots of it, from as many different sources as you can get your hands on, rather than a single person, especially if they have a very specific style, it's great to be inspired by someone, just don't try to copy them, so with that said I'm going to pretend it was me that was going to draw, for lack of a title, the half naked chick with chain axes, what would I look for in my reference.......

(bangs head repeatedly on desk) you've totally missed the point here dude, the post was about what to avoid if you want to progress as an artist, not efficiency. It never even occurred to me that I was talking to someone who didn't take pride in, care about or had any intention of improving their art, sorry to have wasted you're time. 'just a sketch!'

And when I thanked you for your contribution and explained my differences of opinion, it never occurred to me that I was talking to someone who thinks "exploring" and "integrating parts of his style" and "improve" means "didn't take pride in, care about, or had any intention of improving their art".
Believe it or not, YES, I sometimes post things up here of which I'm "not particularly pleased with the results", because I want to contribute to the volume of art on this page, and because if I'm satisfied enough with it to not mind associating it with my name, it can still be a useful point for criticism. And, YES, I practice this hobby for fun. Shock! Horror! I draw because I like to draw, not because I want to be the ONE ARTIST TO RULE THEM ALL. So, NO, even though I do try to improve, I'm not going to spend hours researching every stroke of the pencil every time I get the inclination to try something. And you know what - even then I'm still going to improve, every time I accidentally do something that works well, every time I struggle to make something look satisfactory, every time I try something new and figure out how to make it happen, every time I think a different medium would be interesting, every time I make a mistake that I recognize and identify how to avoid in the future. Because sketching is always good news. I haven't missed your point, I disagree with you. |
