This is the second official Illuminatus competition. The first competition dealt with creating an identity for the board; our second competition deals with advertising that identity across the GW forum-sphere.
To enter the competition, you should illustrate a picture of a naval boarding action. This represents us as we take the Illuminatus name to other forums. This boarding action need not be undertaken by Imperial Navy personnel - you could show Space Marines, Orks or anything you wish. You have one month (four weeks) to produce the finished article. From today, Monday 16th of March you have until Monday 13th of May. After that, there will be a week of public voting. Entrants should post at least one (preferably more) WIP pieces during the month, and are encouraged to talk about their design processes, as well as commenting on the work of others. The work-in-progress thread is located HERE and entrants (and spectators) are encouraged to utilise it to the fullest. The experience of this contest will, I think, be what you make of it. At the end of the month, I'll open up a submissions thread for people to post their completed piece. When submitting your work, there will be two categories, if only because I think some of our members might be intimidated going up against those of you who work as professional artists. I will not force anyone into any category - you can choose your category. The categories will be Chapter Master (for 'professionals') and Aspiring Champion (for everyone else). I think a key part of Illuminatus is that we accept people of all skill levels - our enthusiasm for the worlds Games Workshop creates is what binds us. Final pieces should be completed works (in other words, not a sketch!) measuring no larger than 2500x2500 pixels, but no smaller than 500x500 pixels. Resolution should be between 72-200 pixels/inch. Upon receipt of the finished pieces, I'll set up polls that will be decided by public vote. I'll make sure that the newsletters include news of the voting process so that we get as many votes as possible. Be sure to post here with your statement of intent to participate - just so we know some people are actually going to take part! |

Er, I dont know English so well, does "naval boarding action" means like, talking a ship hostage like pirates did? Or what? It has to do with ships, does it? Exclusively those that operate on water or in space too?

Here's an example of a boarding action from the Battlefleet Gothic rulebook: ![]() Basically, one vessel (representing Illuminatus) invades another (the other hapless forums we're spreading word to.) This can be space or ocean-going. It's possible that the victorious entry might get made into a banner, signature or even an advert for Illuminatus. Does that help? |

I will join this one-
A small caveat for the fact that I'm a very busy person and Dominancewars started yesterday (runs about two months) which is one of the best ways for a freelancer like myself to advertise myself. I will do this one as best as I can though... I'll be joining the proffessional category, since I (claim to) work proffessionally. |

I'm in. I would say I don't stand a chance if Col and KU are in the party, but I never say die!
It would actually be pretty cool to make more than one winner into a banner or signature block (or both) so that we could have a choice of sigs and to show the breadth and variety of art styles popular on the forum. Is the competition going to be judged at least partly on the suitability of entries for adaptation as signatures? R. |

I'll join in, wouldn't mind seeing where a fully fledged piece will take me. Never actually finished a piece before. I think it would be unwise for me to join the professional category, so Aspiring Champion for me.
My only question is will there be a winner from each one, or only one overall winner? |

Yep, thanks Mol, that helped)
I'm in. It would be quite challenging to do such an illustration, never I'd depicted things like that. I'll go in the Chapter Masters category. Not many chances to win, but I love competitions) |

I will enter. I'm also committing myself to enter the Chapter Masters category for no better reason that I cannot change my mind for a better chance of winning if it's half-arsed.

Prospective Entrants: Chapter Masters Colrouphobic Kombat-Unit Ophidicus Aspiring Champions Dazz1286 Unclear Precinctomega -------------------- PO: The actual judging will be on popular vote, and so the "winner" will just be based on the artwork. I do agree that a variety of signatures would be cool, and ultimately the pieces made into signatures will be judged on their suitability. For example, Horizon was keen to publish an Illuminatus advert in his Warp Rift magazine, and if you were able to insert an advert in Dark Magenta, that'd be fantastic too. I just figured the theme of bringing the word of Illuminatus to other forums would be a good one for the competition. I am keen to promote the wide variety of talent on Illuminatus, and I have a few non-contest related ideas for doing so that I'd like to explore at a later date. |

Sorry. Should have been clear that I consider myself an Aspiring Champion.
Perhaps the winner of the AC category gets himself promoted to Chapter Master? R. |

Well, you do have a month! Also, I've decided that WSG#14 (6-12 April) will be a gentle, lightweight topic so that people can focus their last-minute attentions upon the competition.
