Title: New Contest Idea
blackcell8 - October 26, 2006 08:44 PM (GMT)
Right, I've already mentioned this to a few Mods, but we need a new Painting Contest! As you might've gathared from my Signiture, I've got a few ideas.
What I've got is a standard HQ Model, just a single model, but can be converted. It must be game legal. It has to be painted, as that is one part of the judging.
What do you guys think??

Perhaps a painting/conversion competition, much like the ones Work in Progress have?
There are a lot of converters on this site who aren't as *ahem* avid painters, myself included. And some kind of prize to get people a bit motivated? I've noticed that Work In Progress only give a featured pic on the site until the next competition and a 'rank' change, but it's enough to get members working madly on their entries. Perhaps a similar approach? I'm thinking contest winners could have the topic about their winning project pinned to the top of the Painting and Modelling section?

Sounds intresting, as you know I love to convert things

I don't know about that, I've spent so long converting stuff lately that I may have lost my painting skills

Is there a prize for third? Perhaps a new demon prince is called for...
Perhaps a prize for best conversion, best paint job and best overall would help those of us not so keen on one aspect of model creation...

Sounds interesting, might get me motivated enough to continue on some posessed vehicles

That means we're going to need more than one contest... How about an Iron Demon? :bionic

Well, so far I've thought that the prizes themselve could be a banner (below are the ones I've made for Khorne Berzerker's Pre-Heresy forums).
But I'd say prizes for best paint scheme (some photos don't show the quality of painting well, so scheme is better).
A prize for best converted.
And last but not least, most original.
Remember, it's a HQ model, and game legal!
How about we start it well, now, but the date for entries to be PMmed to me is Christmas day, the voting will start from the 26th December untill New Years Eve, with the winner officialy announced on New Years Day?

Sounds good! How about submitting them on Christmas eve ready for voting on christmas day? Another present for the forum to wake up to!
Do you have to include fluff/stories?
WIP photos?
How many final photos are we allowed to submit?
(I'm getting all excited now! :D )

I'm gonna have to run and get a camera... and some skill and uh yeah that should cover me for this contest. This sounds like some serious fun.

Good idea, but not everyone will be able to log in on Christmas Day. Plus it gives me the day to sort some stuff out.

Its not mandatory, and probably won't count for voting, but why not?

Just 1 WIP photo and 1 Painted photo. This allows everyone to vote on the best conversion.

Me too! I've always wanted to run a painting competition!
dertranger - December 26, 2006 11:17 PM (GMT)
Since I can't start topics in the competition section I'll have to post it here. (Sorry for committing necromancy AND thread-jacking at the same time...)
How about a website competition? I'd be willing to run it if anybody is interested, it can't be that difficult...
You'd have to create a website for your army which covered the four major aspects of the game: Modelling, Painting, Playing and Fluff. You wouldn't be marked on the quality of your miniatures so much as the way you present them.
I know some of us already have sites so this should be a good reason to dig them back up again and give them a going over. It should also be a chance for me to get a better look at your armies!
