Title: BLOG: IW 6th Grand Company
Description: update: 09-07-10 a small update
Dreachon - December 31, 2006 11:57 AM (GMT)
Seems like the most appropiate place for this to be here, with other warsmiths.
I've been playing for 4 years now with my IW, attracted to them by their fluff and look.
At first they really weren't much to look at but over the years they have begone to look a lot better, more worthy of sons of Perturabo.
Now it is yet again time to provide the army with another upgrade to bring it to the next level of paiting, I wanna go for a well looking army that should be able to get best painted army at many tournaments.
Given that according to rumours we might get our new spanking codex next year it also seems like a good time to update them.
This has already let me to tackle the following.
- removing moldlines
- IW shoulderpads on as many models as possible
- great conversions in the army
- good bases that'll compliment the army
- drilling the guns
- make the army adhere properly to it's fluff
- one kick-ass paintjob.
I haven't had time to take any pics yet, but I promise to have the first pics of several WiP units within the next week.
So if the Mod would allow this one to live just a little longer, I can start working on getting you alot of pics.
I'll try have updates on a regulair bases but don't hold me to that too much.
what I would like to ask you in the meantime is to provide me with as many suggestions yu can give me, als when the models are beeing posted please be a honest as possible, if something doesn't look right then tell me.
Insane Psychopath - December 31, 2006 03:32 PM (GMT)
I shall be keeping a close eye on this topic, to see what cool conversion you will make :thumb:

Nothing is 100% yet (until codex Ork been & gone) but there might be some legion spure & they want IW for plastic bionic part for chaos. So right now is more of a wait & see. Don't worry I'll try get as much info on this as I can & let you lot know :thumb:
Any way back on topic.
Have you made a sort of sub-theme for your IWs. Like my own you seen sort base around (Star Wars) ACR Clone troopers & more specil unit like that. So model wise having those bolter gun scope, cam & also trying to bring back the old chaos image in UK WD 202 of John B drawing with a few spike helmets.
Also have you though of making your own bionic parts??? The land speeder (with Assault cannon) the scanner bit from that pretty cool & easy to work with to make bionic eyes.
Well look forward to see this army of your.

Well when my aunt tried to buy a box of CSM for christmas (she went and got chaos mortals in the end... :cry ) the shop assistant said new sculps were coming out soon. Not sure about when though.
If the possessed are anything to go on I shall probably get one or two boxes of the current ones and not bother with them...
I like the idea of a blog for your army and IP has had one going for quite a long time. If you don't think it will last long enough you could always try making your own website.
I look forward to seeing more....
Dreachon - December 31, 2006 05:00 PM (GMT)
I'll certainly do my best to keep a steady supply of updates coming for this one.
I'm hard at work on getting as many sqauds as possible equipped with the new shoulderpads as well as getting others finished with the wip part.
If I can find a good amount of chains in the coming week, I'll be able to show several wip vehicles.
Dreachon - January 7, 2007 05:33 PM (GMT)
Allright, as promised the first few pics of the bunch.
First the WiP progress model.
This vindicator is still largely waiting for me to find some good chains that I can put all over it, it's based on what mr. Byrne did with his.
Next we have part of a 6 man fire support sqaud, sofar 5 of them a ready with the 6th having to wait for the SM command sqaud to raid for bitz.
They are equipped for short ranged tankhunting with 2 melta's, a combi-melta and a powerfist.
I'm quite proud on how the champion of the sqaud turned out to be, the pose is good and shows that he means it.
He still needs to get his servo-arm attached.
To further help storming parties that will go into a breech is this 10 man cc havoc sqaud.
They are equipped with 4 flamers, rest is equipped with the proven combo of BP and CCW.
I still to stick 1 more guy to the sqaud.
All of these sqaud still need gravel and such before there bases are done, so they'll take some time before they are ready for painting.
Next up are 2 PiP units.
The first beeing Lieutenant Kruger of the 3rd company, he has command of the storming parties and always leads from the front.
He has been hell to build as it took me nearly 8 months before I had an idea on what parts to get and how to combine them.
I'm quite proud on how he turned out to be but he still needs some work before he's done.
The 2nd unit is a sqaud of 3 obliterators
Well that's it sofar, I hope to get these units largely finished before the next update and have several new units in making their appereance here.
Comments are welcome
Insane Psychopath - January 7, 2007 05:45 PM (GMT)
Looking alright so far. All I can suggest is drill the holes out them Bolter/Bolt Pistols :thumb: same gose for the flamer.
Well look forward to more updates.

And so you should be! I still haven't got round to making a model armed with a pair of lightning claws... Where did you get the head?
I like the way your bases seem less regular and orderly then most 40K armies, it makes them look a lot more individual.
I think your vindi doesn't look chaotic enough, I'd give a lot more spikes and blades. It is, after all, an assault tank.
Good work so far, now show us some more!

It's from the chaos biker boxed set.

Thanks for the compliment on the base, they are sometimes a pain to make with having to cut up everything of a building but they do look great.
For the vindicator, well I don't want it to be super spiky or such, I'll get more chaotic once i have gotten hold of chains and proceeded to the painting stage.

I'm afraid you'll have to wait a week or 2 for that, but I'll do my best to get alot done by then.
I'll probaly have a lot more vehicles done by then.
Lord Vercingetorix - January 10, 2007 12:47 AM (GMT)
Great work so far. really inspirational work. i have a question though since i am still new to iron warriors. not to critisize just wondering, how do you have a 12 man havoc squad? The codex i have has number/squad is 5 - 10. is there something i am missing? is it possible to have that many in the squad? i know for regular squads you can have up to 20 but only 2 special weapons. please help a novice out. thanks and keep up the good work and the postings. :thumb:
Dreachon - January 10, 2007 06:02 PM (GMT)
Rats!!!, your right my bad.
Guess I'll have to man spare for another assault sqaud.
Thank for pointing that out to me.

I'll certainly do my best, I should have the medusa, basilisk and Bombard nearly finished soon.
I can then show some more pics of my armour and hopefully more marines.
The Titan sadly will have to wait I'm afraid.
Templar - January 11, 2007 11:10 AM (GMT)
Very awesome men :P i love the bases you have made nice job!!!
Here is a pic of my vindacator also with chains!!!

I hope to see a lot more!!!
greetz templar ;)
Dreachon - January 21, 2007 01:50 PM (GMT)
Allright, 2 weeks have passed so it's time for me to give another update.
Sadly because the weather here has been terrible I haven't bee able to undercoat any units, I'll see what I can to in the coming week.
I'm nearly done with my first infantry sqaud, 9 man with 2 plasmaguns and a nice looking champion.
Allthey need are final highlights with mithrill silver, doing the rims, the IW shoulderpad, chevrons and the lenses ( which I'm still strugling with ).
I hope to have pics of these guys up around wednesday.
Also I've finally gotten hold of good chains thogh it'll take a month before they arrive here but when they do I'll start working right on the vindicator.
I would have pics of 2 vehicles which are all progressing rapidly through the painting proces, sadly my battery went down after I had taking just 2 shots of the Bombard.
Don't worry though the rest will be up in a few hours or otherwise tomorrow.
This tank has been giving the final highlight of mithrill silver to make the metal look old and weathered, still it'll need some small tweaking like it's rims.
Next up is the medusa, it hasn't yet gotten the final highlight with mithrill silver.
Dreachon - February 3, 2007 03:26 PM (GMT)
Time flies when your wroking hard, time for more updates.
The last 2 weeks I worked in getting a dev=cent amount of infantry ready for a 2000pts game this weekend.
Not all models are finished, only some minor adjustments is needed so these sqaud are finished soon.
First up is my sorceror, based on the lovely conversion of mr Byrne
Kruger has been renamed Krieger as has gotten some updates, mainly with his lichning claws.
Beeing IW we can't leave out our beloved obliterators.
Dreachon - February 3, 2007 03:27 PM (GMT)
Now we head over to the troop choices, 3 sqauds to be exact.
First up is sqaud Mandragore, equipped for busting armour.
Second is sqaud Moturg, there to deal with heavy infantry like marines and terminators.
The third is squad Chaggrat, a fire support sqaud to deal with tanks and MC
A close up of the sqaud champion.
Next up are 2 havoc sqauds.
Sqaud Genha is designed to deal with infantry mainly though they have taken down their fair share of vehicles.
Next is sqaud Darakh, an all-rounder sqaud desgined to tackle any comers.
The sqaud sergeant.
Well that's it for now, more pics will come over 2 weeks, hopefully some armour will appear then.
Insane Psychopath - February 3, 2007 09:16 PM (GMT)
The new stuff looking pretty cool so far. So what else do you have line up on the "to do list"???
You might want the new plastic Devastators, not only for the heavy weapons but there a few servo skulls as well that make for some great conversion work. Thinking of useing a few myself for my own IWs.

Yes, Christain Black Legion army is really cool & his new conversion & rhino are sweet (see my GT report to see his BL army).

2 or 3 more infantry sqauds, then some armour, mainly predators, dreadnoughts and my captured artillery, perhaps the "Mortis Irae" as well.

I've already reserved 2 boxes of them, want a havoc sqaud with 4 HB, the servo skulls will be quite handy when Borahk makes his entrance.
blackcell8 - February 6, 2007 09:11 PM (GMT)
Borahk? Sounds familiar...
And I must get the new devestators for the servo-skulls!
Wait! I've heard that name before! Borak! Despoiler of Chaos!
Sorry, Blood Bowl obsessive here...
Warsmith Varthrok - February 9, 2007 05:47 AM (GMT)
I like what you've got going there. You totally stole the theme I'm looking for there though... Ah well, I'm using alot more loyalist bits and tonnes of metal scraps in the bases. Also I'm not using any mutations or skin.
Anyway, really like the basing, gives them alot of character. If you got a table like that up and running it would look great with them on it.
anyway, keep up the work!

Oh crap you found out about my little sectre project for this summer
I'll be building a huge amount of scenery this summer for a campaign myself and friend are planning all the armies involved will get bases similair to my IW, we'll be making an IF strike force and several titans.
Warsmith Varthrok - February 9, 2007 11:02 PM (GMT)
You and I think very similarly... I had also thought of starting a campaign with some friends when I get my army up and running. With a table similar to the bases of my army...
Just don't tell me you have an idea for an interchangable heavy support army (see battle plans for mine)...
anyway, I love your work, hopefully I can begin mine soon enough.
Dreachon - February 10, 2007 10:51 AM (GMT)
Not quite sure what you mean with interchangable heavy support?
But if you mean lot's of different heavies then I have to dissapoint you cause I have a huge collection heavy support aailable to my Grand Company:
3 landraiders
3 predators
4 dreadnoughts
3 defilers
1 basilisk
1 medusa
1 vindicator
1 bombard
1 hell talon
4 different havoc sqauds
and there will be a lot more coming this summer.
Still there is a lot plannend for this campaign and it will make use of IA volume 5 and 6, codex apocalypse ( were gonna have some really big tank battles ) and we'll try to get a good start on the Legio Mortem ( my own titan legion )
Warsmith Varthrok - February 11, 2007 02:44 AM (GMT)
heh, don't worry about the heavy support stuff. You haven't stolen it. Anyway, as I said liking your stuff, good inspiration!
Dreachon - February 11, 2007 12:47 PM (GMT)
Plus eventually I want to take this army into a more epic direction and you can guess what that will mean.
Lot's of superheavies, if we get the plastic BB from GW I'll turn them into decimators, try to get several deathwheels, looking what superheavies FW will create and in the end build that which every IW warsmith desires, my very own titan legion ( it'll get an imperator as well ), though all of this is still a long way of.
laxlover_bill369 - February 18, 2007 05:42 AM (GMT)
I love your stuff, if I could I might steal you ideal for bases. Its between that and a desert bases. Ps. love the asp. champs.!!!
Dreachon - February 18, 2007 10:57 AM (GMT)
If you see anything you like then please by all means use, it's the biggest compliment I can get when people want my stuff and such.
Allright time for some updates this time though sadly no pics, got some work done but the camera is ast the moment in austria with my parents so you'll get to see the pics with the next update.
WiP:
worked on 2 more infantry sqaud, a 9 man bolter sqaud with 2 plasmaguns and a 12 man assault sqaud with 2 meltaguns, workeed on the bases of 3 dreadnoughts.
Haven't gotten the chains so the vindicator won't seen completion soon.
Done repairs on the 3 Predator tanks, they had their sponson weapons broken off.
PiP:
working on the new chaos terminator lord, a 9 man cc havoc sqaud with 4 flamers.
Also I'm redoing the arms for my warhound.
laxlover_bill369 - February 20, 2007 12:28 AM (GMT)
The chains on your tank are they free chains (like for necklesses) or a flexible stiff chain. If it is the free moving one how did you make it stay in place?
Dreachon - February 20, 2007 05:39 PM (GMT)
It's metal modelling chain, for it staying into place I'll pin em.
Dreachon - March 18, 2007 04:15 PM (GMT)
Allright it's been a while since I had an update but here it is again.
I couldn't take any pics of the current 2 sqauds that are beeing build due to not getting them on their bases sofar, hope to have it done by the next update.
My modelling chain arrived so the vindicator is now fully finished and ready to get painted but since I joined with it in the comp there aren't any pics of it............yet.
PiP sofar.
First up is the new terminator lord with kaigun, used him sofar with good succes, best one was him shooting down a farseer. :pwned
Next up is the first of several rhino's to come, this is the first one with the IW door, something I plan on adding to every rhino based vehicle from now on.
It also shows the weathering and aging of the metal.
Here's a 2nd rhino that got build before I was capable of getting my hands on FW stuff.
Next is the first of many battletanks to come.
Dreachon - March 18, 2007 04:24 PM (GMT)
To continue several dreadnoughts, these are from FW ad IMO far better than the GW model, off course it remains to be seen what the new chaos dreadnought from GW might look like.
First one with a plasmacannon.
Second one with a TL autocannon
Third one with a TL heavybolter and havoc launcher
2 pictures of the aged metal of the dreadnoughts.
And as last some WiP stuff, a brand new havoc sqaud that uses some stuff from the new plastic devastators.
Equipped with 4 heavy bolters they should be perfect for the many orks/IG I come across down here.
and second another rhino with the IW and a dozerblade.
That's about it for now, I hope to get more stuff done in time, have to finish all the stuff sofar and once all of that is finished I shall start with the redoing of my chaos warhound and finish the Helltalon.
As always comments are welcome.
Warsmith Varthrok - March 19, 2007 08:50 AM (GMT)
wheres the dozer blade on the rhino from? I would like to use some in my army.
Dreachon - March 19, 2007 09:14 AM (GMT)
It's from forgeworld, part of their SM accessoires
Dreachon - April 1, 2007 05:31 PM (GMT)
Allright not much of an update but since the painting comp got cancelled I can show pics of the vindicator.
The damn tank took alot of work and it refused to come along for some time before it was finished, still the end result is a good one.
blackcell8 - April 1, 2007 08:26 PM (GMT)
Yeah, shame it didn't go ahead, I know where my vote would've gne, really nice work there!
Dreachon - July 15, 2007 09:42 AM (GMT)
By the infernal powers of chaos I command this thread to rise once more
Yes it's been some time since I last posted, RL got in my way alot.
I've done updating the warhound to a large degree and now he only needs some small adjustments and then he's ready for the apocalypse.
The release of the new chaos has brough me mixed feelings that have prevented me from doing work on the army.
Still I'm starting to get that itch again and finish more of my army to prove that I'm one of the true sons of Olympia and not one of those power mongering players that took the army to make a WAAC army.
I've been working on my warhound titan recently that I bought nearly 3 years ago, it's the prideand joy of my warhammer career sofar and it's first battle was one of the best I ever had.
so without further ado here's pics of the "Mortis Irae"
Not the bets pictures I know but these will be replaced by better ones onces he's fully done.
Marshall_Brant - July 16, 2007 05:10 PM (GMT)
I wish I had the funds to get a Warhound Titan in the 82nd Grand Company, to add to the five heavy support choices I have :P
BTW: nice job on them so far I like them very good keep it up!
laxlover_bill369 - August 20, 2007 03:59 AM (GMT)

topgear1138 - August 25, 2007 09:46 AM (GMT)
I really really love that you've placed your squads on ruble. I am thinking about doing that myself with future models.
I love that horned Asp. Champ with the combi weapon, powerfist & servo arm on page one.
laxlover_bill369 - September 13, 2007 12:01 AM (GMT)
I was wondering (if you are still here) how did you paint the rubble and the oblit's skin and the skin on the vidicator? Also did you do the brazen brass drybrush of burnished gold on the titan too?
Jackety - September 13, 2007 01:49 AM (GMT)
...
Sexilicious.
Yes. That's the only word I can say to describe everything in this thread. -Very-.
