G'day 4th Grand Company, it is good to be back in the thick of the Warhammer 40k world. I took a break from 40k a while back just as the new Chaos Codex was about to be released and went to fantasy and played around a bit with some Dark Elves (Very complicated and in depth game, very entertaining and strategic; just how I like it); but now with the new Chaos Codex released I decided to roll up a new list as to accommodate the new rules.
I used to play Iron Warriors (as you can see from my sig.) and am now conflicted as to either continue my reign of Iron Death or to change it up a bit and play with a small taint of Nurgal. If I were to bestow my men the gifts of Nurgle and have him as my new god, I would most likely use my Iron Warrior models and convert them to show their new forms taking over; This would all be tied in with my ever growing fluff.
-----------------------------------------------
In other words, I would have my Iron Warriors "Falling" away from their Iron Hearts and "straying" towards the path of the unclean.
Below I have presented two possible lists I may choose to make. Tactics have been provided below.
This first list is a list comprised to represent a 'pure' Iron Warriors army.
1500/1500
HQ 165
Deamon Prince 165*
-MoN, Wings, Rot
Elites 110**
Dread 110
-Autocannon
Troops 800***
10x Marines 280
-Glory, 2x Plasma guns, AC w/P.fist, Rhino w/ EA
10x Marines 260
-Glory, Plasma Gun, H.Bolter, AC w/P.fist, Rhino
10x Marines 260
-Glory, 2x Flamers, AC w/P.fist, Rhino w/ EA
Fast Attack
Heavy Support
Predator 100****
-Autocannon, H.Bolter-SS
Predator 100****
-Autocannon, H.Bolter-SS
3x Obliterator 225*****
Stat Line-
30 Marines/ 1 M.Creature/ 3 Obliterators
3 Rhinos/ 1 Dread/ 2 Predators
3 Autocannons/ 3 Plasma guns/ 5 H.Bolters/ 2 Flamers
2 M.Creature CCWs/ 3 P.fists
*I will use this Deamon Prince as a fire magnet and to roll tanks on their side(Mark of Nurgle will in no way affect the Iron Warrior appeal to this list and is merely there for rule purposes).
**This Dread will be used as a light tank buster and fire magnet which will move up with the Rhino Squads(***).
***These trio of rhinos will be the main ram/spear of my force; will utilize Dump/Rapid fire tactics.
****Out of all of the Heavy Support choices Predators are most likely my favorite choice. These will choose select targets to focus fire after setup is complete. Their targets will usually be bulk infantry to weaken seemingly huge units for my Spear units(***). They may also be used to take out fast and thus light vehicles to give the advantage of speed to me.
*****These will be the end all unit for this army. I will take advantage of their best trait, diversity, and use it to patch up the weakest point on the battle field. As we all know all battles have a randomness to them and these obliterators will be the thing to shape it back up in my favor.
Ok, this is the second list that I had in store. This list has the taint of Nurgle within it and thus the tactics may be slightly different.
1501/1500
HQ 165
Deamon Prince 165*
-MoN, Nurgle's Rot, Wings
Elites
Troops 972
10 Marines 265**
- MoG, Plasma Gun, H.Bolter, AC w/ P.wep, Rhino
10 MArines 250**
- MoG, Plasma Gun, Autocannon, AC w/ P.fist, Rhino
7 Plague Marines 281***
-MoN, 2x Plasma guns, AC w/ P.fist, Rhino
7 Plague Marines 246***
-MoN, 2x Flamer, AC w/ P.fist, Rhino
Fast Attack
Heavy Support 325
Pred 100****
-AC, HB-SS
3x Obliterator Cult 225*****
Stat Line-
20 Marines/ 14 P.Marines/ 1 M.Creature/ 3 Obliterators
4 Rhinos/ 1 Predator
2 Autocannons/ 4 Plasma guns/ 3 H.Bolters/ 2 Flamers
1 M.Creature CCW/ 3 P.fists/ 1 P.wep
Ok, first off I will note the obvious differences in the two lists above.
-This list wields more nurgle marked marines, making for a MUCH tougher spear force, BUT lacks the power of a dread at its side, thus losing a good deal of striking force as well as a fire magnet.
-This list also has only one Predator as apposed to two; making the long ranged support rather lacking.
So over all I traded a Dread + Pred + 1 Rhino squad for 2 Cult rhino squads
As for the Tactics-
*Will still act as a fire magnet but his combat prowess will be turned towards assisting the spear in their charge(***).
**Will move on the flanks of the cult marines but most likely at least one will disembark on turn 1 to claim objectives/corners.
***Will form the bulk of the Spear for this army and 2 squads should be able to hold on their own against the enemy for a few turns with the help of the DP. This will give the other marines time to get objectives/vantage points to unleash a hail of support fire the coming turns.
****Will focus on sniping weak transports and thinning units where my spear is headed.
*****Will Deep strike to bust tanks or take out key units targets in unison with the predator
All Crit&Comments are welcome.
Thank you for your time.
