Title: 24th grand company "Iron Blitz"
Kyron - April 25, 2010 08:00 AM (GMT)
Since I can't get it to work to post pictures on this forum, only links, I might as well post this link
http://www.war-doa.com/warforum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=6 to another forum where you can see all pictures right away without clicking on a thousand links. :)
Some of the text might be on swedish, but the pictures are on the international language of "ooh.. I can see and understand that picture" :)
Warsmith Gorrched - April 25, 2010 05:28 PM (GMT)
I'm really liking the lord that you got. I think you got the colors down pat.
Kyron - April 25, 2010 06:48 PM (GMT)
Thanks. I've finished my second Rhino now. Made an attempt with free-hand painting on the roofhatch.
jasonxfri13th - April 25, 2010 11:46 PM (GMT)
Your Iron Warriors look gorgeous, how did you paint them?
Kyron - April 26, 2010 06:09 AM (GMT)
Thanks, jasonxfri13th :)
I start off with a black primer ( yes, really :) ) Then I drybrush the whole model quite heavily with boltgun metal. When I'am done with that I paint the armour boltgun leaving a darker area from the drybrushing closest to armour trims and between diffrent armour pieces. After that I just highlight the armour with mithril silver.
The armour trims I paint with shining gold, then use some of my precious flesh was and finally paint them with shining gold leaving some darker areas around detalis.
I will post a step by step during this week so you can see exactly what I mean. :)
Kyron - April 26, 2010 08:24 PM (GMT)
This is the first stage in painting my Iron Warriors. Not much to say. It's a plain heavy drybrush with boltgun metal.
jasonxfri13th - April 26, 2010 11:17 PM (GMT)
Thanks, ill probably try your way on some of my CSMs, I made a squad of 5, but I don't like the look of them too much. I basically dry brushed them with bolt gun metal and put a very watery wash of snakebite leather of them so their armor looked not shiny and dirty, and in the recesses it looked rusty. I'll put a pic up in a few hours in my other thread, but the thing is I don't know if Iron Warriors would really look rusty.
and btw, what color looks like flesh wash?
Anyways keep up with the pictures :D
Kyron - April 27, 2010 06:50 AM (GMT)
In this picture I have added some boltgun on the armour, but making sure that I leave some of the darker colours around the edges to another pice of the armour so that I get some shading on the model. I have also added the first coat of shining gold to the model.
Khargoth - April 27, 2010 07:15 AM (GMT)
Your drybrushing technique is perfect, and virtually negates the need for washes. Kudos :praise:
Kyron - April 27, 2010 04:40 PM (GMT)
In this picture I have applied a layer of flesh wash over the gold details.
jasonxfri13th - April 27, 2010 11:42 PM (GMT)
When you add the boltgun metal, are you simply painting it on like normal, and then leaving some areas around the edges?
And what is a good substitute for flesh wash... I have never seen flesh wash before. I can't even find it with google... or do you mean ogryn flesh wash?
Kyron - April 28, 2010 06:02 AM (GMT)
This is with the final layer of shining gold and a few highlights with mithril silver. :) Yes, when I just paint the boltgun in the second stage as normal. But as you said, make sure not to paint to close to the edges so you dont ruin the first stage. Felsh Wash is one of the old GW washes. I have an old bottle that's a little more than half full. But I haven't really figured out what to use instead of it. So I dread the day when my flesh wash runs out... :) But I shall experiment and when I find a good substitute I will let you know. :)

I thought I would start post some pictures of other things I've done to.
This is Warsmith Kyron
More pictures will come as I upload them.
WarInHeaven - April 28, 2010 07:14 PM (GMT)
hey! swedich looks a lot like dutch! :D
on topic: verry nice models, my models crumble in shame, got some more?
Kyron - April 29, 2010 05:08 PM (GMT)
I guess you have been over to the Dead on Arrival forum since you know of the similarities of our languages. :) Well, I've got 2 full squads of CSMs to. I can take a groupfoto of them if you like. I also have 5 termies. :) This weekend i will start work on my Vindicator and another squad of CSM.
jasonxfri13th - April 30, 2010 01:14 AM (GMT)
If you find a substitute for the flesh wash feel free to tell us :D
Marshall_Brant - April 30, 2010 06:18 PM (GMT)
I'd suggest looking into Gryphonne Sepia. It's damn near flesh wash, just a matte version of it. It works for me.

jasonxfri13th - May 1, 2010 01:28 AM (GMT)
Thanks, I'll have to buy some :D
Kyron - May 1, 2010 04:35 PM (GMT)
First I had plans to start paint another squad of Chaos Space Marines. Instead I bought a box of Berzerkers. :) First out of the twelve of them are Corg.
Skull Champion Corg
jasonxfri13th - May 1, 2010 07:52 PM (GMT)
perfect :D
I have a squad of bezerkers I need to do after I get some white spray paint
Kyron - May 7, 2010 05:48 AM (GMT)
This is the result of my freehandpainting. I'm quite satisfied with it... :)
Warsmith Gorrched - May 7, 2010 10:13 PM (GMT)
Wow. My dear Brother of Iron you have out done yourself. Kudos to you!
jasonxfri13th - May 7, 2010 11:20 PM (GMT)
Wow it looks amazing.
Free hand painting is the thing I suck at the most... including drawing. I never was any good at artistic things, although I am pretty good in ceramics :D
Kyron - May 8, 2010 04:38 AM (GMT)
Thanks Gorrched. :)
It's unfortunate that I do not have any pictures of my previous attempts, Jasonxfri13th. Then you would see that it doesn't take that much practice to achive the result I achived on my Rhino. If I not entirely wrong there are, or atleast have been, a guide to free paint your Iron Warrior-logo right here on this forum. But I can't remember what name the topic had.. Hmm.. I will have a look around and see if I can find it. :)
Kyron - May 9, 2010 03:25 PM (GMT)
This is the guide I mentioned. I managed to find the picture on my computer. :)
Khargoth - May 10, 2010 03:08 AM (GMT)
Looks great. I'll keep that in mind for future designs. It's interesting how varied the IW logo is, the only other Legion with so many different variations would be the Black Legion. Actually even they are fairly straightforward, an eye design in the middle of a Chaos star. The IW skull has heaps of variations on the eyes, jaw and even the shape of the whole head.
Kyron - May 12, 2010 09:33 PM (GMT)
This is my first Berzerker. I actually don't like the models of this unit because of the big hands, but what can you do? When I took the picture though, I noticed that I had missed mouldlines on exactly the part that I dislkie the most.. His left hand. I still havn't decied if I should correct it or leave it as a silent protest. :)
Khargoth - May 13, 2010 05:47 AM (GMT)
Wow, theY ARE big hands. They just used some common sense by wearing leather gloves OVER their armoured gauntlets!
Jofus - May 13, 2010 11:42 AM (GMT)
Its for better absorption of their victims blood... or just a mold showing its age.
Kyron - May 13, 2010 02:45 PM (GMT)
Either way I don't like them. :) But they are a awesome unit in CC, so I'll try to live with it.
BurnArt the Ravenbane - May 13, 2010 03:17 PM (GMT)
...or you could cut them off, then cut off the axe from them and replace them with some more normal ones.
Kyron - May 14, 2010 05:24 PM (GMT)
BurnArt
Yes, the thought has crossed my mind. But since I'm dislike converting and painting I decided to just whine about it. :) The only thing I dislike more is to play with and against unpainted armies. :)
KingOfFools - May 14, 2010 10:42 PM (GMT)
I have no problems with the gloves, I am happy we still have those old model, because they offer conversion possibilities and diversity. the heads are not to my taste for IW, but they are sure good for world eaters.

Ah. Okay, carry on then.

I wouldn't mind the gloves either, if they weren't that big. But as Jofus said, it just shows how old the model are.
By the way. I'm almost done with the second one. I just need to find the last few minutes I need to complete it... :)
Kyron - August 8, 2010 09:33 PM (GMT)
It's been a while now, but I made a bunker today... :)

kelaino - August 10, 2010 11:28 AM (GMT)
Inspiring. Think I might do something similar for LoS-blocker when the local gaming club decides to spend some money on 40k-terrain (there is a disturbing amount of castle walls/watch towers and waist-high grass currently).
Neat.
I really like the colour of the berzerker's helmet by the way, great job.

Just wondering how you did your gold.
Right now I have shining gold with a wash of gryphonne sepia but it still seems a little too gold for the models.
Kyron - December 17, 2010 07:26 AM (GMT)
I did my gold the same way as before. Shining Gold, as wash with flesh wash, and shining gold again. Right now I'm looking for a good substitute for flesh wash since GW doesn't produce it any more. :( I might have found some now though.. I'll let you know as soon as I have tested it. :)
