Title: Creating new life
Description: Making your own deamon engines.

Dreachon - July 29, 2010 02:10 PM (GMT)
So having played last weekend in yet another large apocalypse game I've come to realise that with Chaos we lack a lot of options to deal with certain problems that one might get to face in apocalypse, as such I've begun to come with some lovely new deamon engines to help chaos lord levell the playing field.

But then I also realised that many of you other fine lord of destruction and mayhem might also have ideas that you just want to spill.

So this thread is for creating new deamon engines for chaos to use in apocalypse so here goes.

Chaos Scourge

Rules: AA version of the defiler, stats are the same as you normal defiler.
All of it weapons are removed and instead it is given a twin-linked long barrelled autocannons in AA mounts and an underslung long barrelled harvester in an AA mount for each arm.
Still thinking about removing it's two combat arms.

Model: Now this model will be easy to make once the Hydra flaktank get's released by GW, the head of the scourge I also want to move to the former battlecannon location given this beast a hunched over look.
The harvesters can be done with a few pieces of plastic piping.

Chaos Desecrator

Rules: a short ranged version of the defiler that deal with dug in infantry.
It will have front armour 13, an inferno-cannon and a novacannon ( leman russ eradicator ) though I might add another small gun to it, let me know what you guys think, for the rest it's statline will be the same as the Defiler.

Model: like the scourge the the all the defiler weapns are removed and the head is moved to the chest area.
The right arm housing will receive the nova cannon while the left will receive the inferno-cannon.

Let me know what you guys think as I will start building some later this year.

Hmmm... creating Daemon Engines, eh?

*Reaches into the darkest, most warped corners of his idea-spawning mind*

How about this beauty;

Chaos Eradicator:
---------------------
Basically, a Leman Russ hull with a hull-mounted Demolisher Cannon and sponson-mounted flamestorm cannons. May be upgraded with either combi-melta or combi-bolter. What sets it aside is a massive Mine Flail with an armoured shield that protects the Eradicator from blasts and accurate fire. As such, it has front AV14, side AV13 and back AV11. Think of it as an heavily armoured Mine-Clearer.. on steroids..

Or this;

Chaos "Loki Pattern" Assault Dreadnought:
-------------------------------------------------
By binding a daemon to a bipedal construct similar to a Sentinel, the Assault Dreadnought is a worthy adversary both in close combat and firepower. Armed with either a Plasma Cannon, Multi-Melta or Flamestorm Cannon and a Dreadnought close combat weapon, this beast usually works in small packs of 3-5 constructs.
Think of it as a Sentinel with a 2 S10 attacks and capable of blasting a leman russ -or Land Raider- to smithereens.. oh, did I mention it had Fleet?

And, to close my post with a little brainchild of mine the size of a Warhound;

Chaos Marauder Stalk Tank:
---------------------------------
This Defiler-like, Warhound-titan sized construct has a Greater Daemon bound to it, and two carapace mounts armed with either Volcano Cannon, Laser Blaster or Gatling Blaster, and follows the same stats as a Warhound titan. Lovely..

Oh, by the way, Dreachon, you left the doors of the Vault of Moradec open..

Like the idea but I'd rather go with an entirely new chaos tank chassis, been working on one myself which I call the corrupter.
For me the deamon engines sould have as little in common with their imperial counterparts.

Sounds like a chaos version of the killa kan, always a blast to use them.

You know that the 3.5 codex actually had a picture of a much larger 6 legged war engine, it's on the page that has this attack on a fortress with the DP standing on a mountain of dead guardsmen.

Nah I did that on purpose.

I wrote up the VDR for the Chaos Violator a while back, it's essentially a giant Defiler, with upscaled guns and weapons. A large torso on a six-legged chassis, with a twin-linked missile launcher on it's shoulders, close combat arms, a Demolisher cannon in the torso flanked by a Heavy Flamer.

Chaos Maw Tank:
Chaos' version of a breaching drill. About the size of a Land Raider, with a massive array of grinders and cutting drills across the front. Can be armed with a heavy flamer or maybe a grappling hook. Relatively simple rules, roll to hit a target vehicle with the hook. Use some kind of marker to point it out. The Maw can't move while it has hooked a target. Each Chaos shooting phase, the target tank is dragged 2D6" towards the Maw. Skimmers are dragged 3D6" If the marked vehicle has Structure points, the Maw is dragged towards it instead. Movement rate of hooked vehicles is halved unless it has Structure points. The drills themself give a +10St and 2D6 Armour Penetratio bonus to ramming moves. When tank shocking, infantry take a St10 hit with no armour saves on a 4+

Incinerator of Tzeentch:
A dreadnought-sized, multi-legged insectile walker, with an Inferno Cannon and a Combi-bolter with Inferno Bolts.

Hydra of Nurgle:
A mass of machinery, dragging itself along on various legs, wheels and treads, with several mechanical heads rising above it. The entire thing would be extremely corrupted, and the heads would vomit streams of corrosive slime, something like multiple flamer weapons.

The Bloodstorm:
Something like a multiple missile launcher tank. Instead of rockets it fires icons of Chaos embedded in projectiles. Clumped together in a target spot they create a strong enough focus to summon Daemons. A unit of Daemons must be in reserve and available to enter the table to appear at the target spot. Cross a Monolith with an Angry Marines Whirlwind and you're on the right track. Would be treated like an Ordnance weapon (scatter etc), which means you can drop Daemons closer to the enemy, but squad Icons are more reliable for placing them at a specific spot.

Dreachon; Jupp, I know of the 3.5 'dex cover art.. t'is were the inspiration of the Marauder Stalk Tank came from.. allthough I wanted a smaller and more deadlier one for a cheap amount of points.. -hey, sometimes, I want to be cheesy..-

Khargoth; Maw tank, brilliant.. I have a mental picture of a warlord with a maw tank attached to it, drawing closer to the Imperial titan..
Warlord Princeps: "Get off me!"
Maw tank: <drags itself closer> "Om nom nom.."
Warlord Princeps: "Dang nabbit, GET LOST!"
Maw Tank: <drags itself even closer> "Om nom nom.."
Warlord Princeps: "THRONE!"
Maw Tank: <reaches the lower leg of the titan> "Om nom nom.. *KERRUNCH!"
Warlord Moderati: "Hull breach, HULL BREACH!"
Warlord Princeps: " Hull breach? it friggin' ATE the lower leg!"
Maw Tank: "I wants MOAR! Om nom nom.."

Oh.. whilst tinkering inside my forge.. -oh, well, HOBBY ROOM it is, then- I came up with another beastie:

Chaos Land Crawler "Fat Boy":
------------------------------------
A Daemon Engine that resembles a huge insektoid beast, with 3 pairs of enormous legs in front and massive track units, with several weapon pods that incorperate either AA-guns, close range defence guns and long range artillery guns, and capable of launching a fligth wing (10-12 Hell Blades, Hell Talons, Locusts or Tormentors) and a couple of Harbinger super-heavy bombers..

Khargoth - August 2, 2010 09:00 AM (GMT)
I had the idea for mecha-greater daemons; essentially summoning a Greater Daemon into a mechanical body before an actual battle, as a summoning ritual may not be possible in the middle of a battle, and allowing them to remain in the physical plain for much longer. Not a 'trap' like Defilers and other engines may be, but literally a physical body for them to inhabit in a similar way to how the C'tan work.

The greater daemon isn't summoned but deployed as normal.
Is tougher than a summoned greater daemon but perhaps not as powerful.
May have some Wargear options like wings, a more powerful CC weapon or a large warp-powered gun.

So, continuing from previous trains of thought (curse you, Dreachon!), I figured the simplest and canonical way to create daemon engines is to have generic Daemon Engines with options to dedicate them to a patron god. The idea stemmed from the Forge World Blood Slaughterer being a Khornate version of a fairly generic daemon engine. The Incinerator I mentioned before could be the Tzeentch version, with the large blade arms being replaced by inferno cannons. Slannesh would have sonic weapons and a doom siren, Nurgle probably 2+ poisoned weapons and some kind of blight area effect.

Another fun one was the Greater Hellcannon of Chaos. Pretty much the large six-legged walker in the 3rd Ed cover art, with the cannon being an indirect-firing Plasma Blastgun :demon:
