Title: Daemonic Predators

Ulfast - March 26, 2012 05:22 AM (GMT)
I was thinking about what kind of heavy choses I want to have when I reach around 1500p. The most oblivious was of course the Obliterators. They are good, suits us IW and pointswise gives the most back to you. But I think that is boring. Most chaos players around my gaming club (and on the internet too) seems to use them and I never want to follow the stream.

So what to do? I want my heavy chose to take out the other players heavy chose. So I started to think about our other options, like havocs, Vindicators, Land raiders etc. Then it came to me; Chaos predators! I have always like tanks and those are one of the few we got. But I donīt want them to cost like a ton off points. Instead I want a mobile tank that only purpose is to take out other tanks. So what to do?

I thought to make the predator with twin linkted lascannon (it hits hard, it hit far and can reroll misses), skip the sponsors (to expensive for lascannon sponsor and the heavy bolter one makes no sense if I want to hunt other tanks), give it daemonic possession (will lower the BS to 3 but at the same time ignore shacken/stunned results which will make them shoot more often and the twinlinkted makes me anyway reroll) and to finish it I give it a dozer blade (yet again make me more mobile as it will propably ignore difficult terrain because of the reroll). This make it only 130p and three of this cost a total less then 400p.

I then got three tank hunting tanks that will be hard to take out. Mainly for two reason, front of 13 and daemonic possession and that they sit far off (lascannons have a reach of 48 so melta weapons will be far from them). Also three will insure me that at least someone will survival to shoot back.

But what do you think? Is this a good idea? I have never used predators (luckly noone else in my gaming club eather) so I donīt know if they are good. I have used a soul grinder with armour 13 and daemonic possession (kind off) and they where hard to take out for the opponent. :gas

PassionFruit Power - March 26, 2012 08:08 AM (GMT)
looks pretty good but i think vindicators are more suited to us. :gas

jesseye - March 26, 2012 06:02 PM (GMT)
i prefer autocannon and heavybolters and use them for anti-infantry. the obliterators gw always made i thought were horrible models so i never used them, i do have stand in models but even then dont use them. i like predators, and hope we get razorbacks soon.

Ulfast - March 26, 2012 08:06 PM (GMT)
This is one of my points, everyone thinks Predators are fine but no one actually use them. Specially in a chaos army. Thatīs why I think it would be a good option for me to use. Also Iīm propably going to put magnets on so that I can change when I need. But I stand for my original idea that I tihnk a predator with twin-linked lascannon and daemonic possession could work, specially when they are three.

Loki - March 26, 2012 10:05 PM (GMT)
Autocannon-armed Predator = win. It's your average workhorse that packs a punch. My main reason for not fielding a Predator is that I don't like the current model. (gasp!) It looks like a Rhino that got slapped on some sponsons and a turret, I want a REAL friggin' medium battle tank that looks menacing and actually has the looks of a battle tank, not an APC with extra heavy weapons, semi ork style!

jesseye - March 26, 2012 10:15 PM (GMT)
no i use them, love me some tanks. i use a group of three with auto cannons and heavy bolters for anti troop capabilities. fast mobile and deadly. if i play somone with alot of tanks the two groups with lascannons work just fine. i dont know why there not used more. just like i always take a rhino for each squad, though they are not used as much anymore either. landraiders are nice but for the points ill take a rhino and a predator and make more use out of them. im just wishing you could buy predators in units of three in a normal game just ig can with leman russes. but since it seems every game i get into seems to be Apocalypse of some form anyway not a problem. speaking of which you have me wantin to work on my predator division now lol. btw im workin on a way to get you that present but must break the file down so it may be several emails.

Loki - March 26, 2012 10:27 PM (GMT)
hmm.. all this Predator talk made me want to buy one.. and convert it into a real battle tank by lowering the hull and slapping on some extra armour. Luckily I've got some spare autocannons lying around from the Aegis defence line I bought two years ago..

Well, IG players are "nerfed" by the Leman Russ tank company (3 tanks fills one heavy slot) by the following; if ONE Tank is immobilised, the rest of the company cannot move, and you'll need a Tech Priest to move in and repair the bugger.. (at least, if my memory doesn't play tricks on me.. has been AGES since I last rested my eyes upon the 5th ed. Rulebook)

The Predator is a darn sexy tank, but GW did a sloppy job realising it. I will personally see to it that the Predator gets its "sexiness" back. Mark my words..

Ulfast - March 27, 2012 05:22 PM (GMT)
Loki, I would very much want to see your predator. I too think it would propably look awsome. the more I tihnk about this idea to use predators in my list the more I like it. Itīs few that sue them so it would be a surprise. And make people think diffrent, I do like that. Plasma weapon canīt really touch a predator so they have to make it diffrent :)

jesseye - March 27, 2012 07:13 PM (GMT)
at one time you saw alot of them, a loyalist army almost always had one. but there are alot of other options to use now. to be honest thinking about it, you really dont see alot of predators, and i dont have a reason for it either. especially in chaos armies

Warsmith Gorrched - March 27, 2012 09:35 PM (GMT)
I sold off my pred a while ago to a friend of mine and somehow I ended up regretting it as it's been a thorn in my side almost every battle I play against him.

It's not a horrible tank but then again...its just a rhino with a turret on top with no troop capacity. While I can understand the rhino being a good template to work with I would have thought something else would have been done to beef the bugger up a bit more.

jesseye - March 27, 2012 10:09 PM (GMT)
well i understand the concept of the creation of it. the space marines used templates to make use of there rhinos. i like the concept really. i know what you mean bout selling yours. i had an old first run predator i had got in a trade. i hacked it apart for the rhino and uber regret it however i love the rhino conversion. almost 20 years later its still in my army. unrecognizable as a rhino but that what it is, just iron warriorfied. i have 4 of the old ones and three new ones and still like the originals more. lookiin i think i prefered the old predators as well. id like to get one of the ones with metal turret and sponsons. im still iffy on the new fragile sponsons.

Ulfast - March 28, 2012 07:22 AM (GMT)
I actually like the new preadtor over the old one (but ths new old predator/rhino from Forgeworld is also very cool, mix of both). Think the buffed out volume makes it cooler and also I like the turrent better. But I also agree that they really could have made it even more of a tank then a rhino with turrent. But thatīs what you can do by yourself :)

Khargoth - March 28, 2012 02:04 PM (GMT)
I fitted mine with a set of Chaos reinforced armour from Forgeworld to beef up the tank.

AC/HB Predators are one of the best bang-for-buck units in the Chaos army. Troops choices win or lose games with the emphasis on objectives, and these guys throw out a LOT of shots that can seriously damage a scoring unit. Give it a Havoc Launcher for even more lulz.

The Lascannon pred without sponsons and Possession would be great in low point games like 500pts. I still miss my 5-man Lascannon squads (I still maintain las/plas is a waste of a plasmagun) for dirt-cheap AT fire.

In bigger games, I'm not so sure. You've got more points to spend and Heavy Support is a pretty crowded category to be spending a slot on a single armoured Lascannon shot per turn.

Ulfast - March 29, 2012 08:27 AM (GMT)
True, one single lascannon is not much but itīs a shoot that often hits and will I most cases damage what it hits, in one way or another. And donīt forget armour 13 in front. Itīs hard to take that out. The main reason I want to try this is to be diffrent. Not use oblerators like everyone else. Btw I also had a moment when I thought 3 land raiders would be intersintg ;)

But I will put magnet so I can do both. :)

jesseye - March 29, 2012 09:34 AM (GMT)
ive never really worked on my predators to change the appearance due to i like the overall look and you see a predator and there it is a predator in another color. maybe i should, hmmm.
you know the lascannon thing, yea you play somone with lots of armour then yea useful. but say an ork mob with a lot of stress on "i brought all my boys to da party". an ork hoard can bring alot of targets.... lascannons you get what, three shots per predator? auto cannons and heavy bolters become real handy here and with the mobility can be all over the place. why cant we put dual heavy bolters in the turret? ooooo or twin reapers? thats chaotic.

Ulfast - March 29, 2012 11:49 AM (GMT)
Yes, we should sue some reaper autocannon instead og heavy bolters. would be awsome and diffrent. But you are right, my type of predator is mroe aimed at other mariens or tank players. Not orks or nids. Then a regular with AC and HB is better. Thatīs why God invented magnets to use :)

jesseye - March 29, 2012 12:50 PM (GMT)
ok i can see using magnets for some things but using them on predators i think is beyond me. im not sure how id even go about it. im glad somone came up with the magnet idea and it works for some but im really against it. i make a model throw my love into it im ready for the next one not parts for the last one. however if im to make termys i guess its the way to go. alright alfast if you get the magnets to work on your predator let us know how it worked out. right now im trying to figure out where to install the pioneer speakers on mine that SOMONE got me obsessed with on my rhino thread... stupid rolling stones stuck in my head

Ulfast - March 29, 2012 12:55 PM (GMT)
Lol, I promise to show you picture when itīs done. Need to buy it first ;) If I had the money I would go your way and just buy one and glue it all together. But with my small wallet right now I need to be creative.

jesseye - March 29, 2012 01:17 PM (GMT)
man ive been unemployed for six months going from injured to sick to oh my god there gonna put me in dreadnaught aint they. my old lady lost her job bout three months ago, i havent had the money to buy a tube of superglue. however i stockpile when i can and that helped me get through supplies before i got to sick. maybe its spring maybe its the old i feel great just before i drop dead gag that people pulled on me before my shift started but i do feel good and am ready to get back to work and buy lots of minis and another division of predators and a new girlfreind when roxie leaves cause shes tired of my mini habbit. naw shes great shed just shoot me and bury me round back, im not joking she would really
man id love to see some pics, im dying to get some my own up. i have to buy a camera and you guys have actually got me motivated in the last week or so to get better and get going so thank you. i will get some pics on here i will!!!

Ulfast - March 29, 2012 07:25 PM (GMT)
To bad to hear about your bad luck but it will all turn around. I just now it. Then we can all buy more miniatures and paint them and put them up here :)

as I said, not so many painted predators in IW colours out there.

jesseye - March 29, 2012 08:07 PM (GMT)
hey man ive got a company ive tried to work for for 20 years calling me and sending me emails and really all i did was walked in said hey and told them my background. who knew clubbing baby seals with bald eagles to crush the ice underneath them for my drink was a usable job skill. naw really i am a bit dumbfounded. either their really desperate for help or their really desperate for help one of the two, no thats not a mistype i meant for it to say that. dont like it go pick tomatoes and call yourself sally. in reality my fortune is up. health is good i get a job on my first try i HOPE and roxie making me her chilli!!! btw. my predator is in one piece again. i think ive mentioned roxie is a klutz. after she broke all my tanks i hid them. so i dug my ONLY predator out and am wondering what to do what to do.. i had more, yea she also throws things that are broken away, hence the hiding. but im bout to stuff myself with her chili. alright real life here. for all you members who are unfortunate not to live in the southern united states you have no idea what your missing. a southern corn fed girl who can cook southern foods is a must for all men. if you dont live here at least visit and grab a woman to take back. for the women on here the men can cook to if they southern enough. should say mountain not southern but hey. and mine likes guns to. scary really. sorry off subject.
i do have to add though cause ive been wondering. in the new codex do you think possessing vehicles will still be an option? i mean they have been taking everything daemonic from the list a bit at a time.
god im longwinded.

Ulfast - March 30, 2012 06:32 AM (GMT)
Chili, yummy! It really seems everything is going your way. THat is good :)

About deamonic possession I really hope tey leave that. As you said, all dameonic is geting taking away but I hope tey instead make more of it. Because otherwise we will just be space marines and not chaos space marines. THatīs why I like that our dreadnoughts go crazy, I love it. If I donīt know what he is doing, then my opponent donīt eather ;)

jesseye - March 30, 2012 06:54 AM (GMT)
ok dreadnaughts, off subject but a sore point. in early versions of 40k as im sure you read in the realm of chaos books dreadnaughts weren't sarcophaguses but living pilots, which aint cool, however chaos dreads were pretty much by standard possessed and were mutated kinda described similar to obliterators in that the internal organs of original occupant were growing out and bones and and and yuck. but they were nasty. but they worked like a normal dread. no blood rage, by theory we should at this point be able to use them as very powerful characters. but there not. fun to convert look awsome but i dont find them usable anymore. if you possessed them in the past they were pretty much unstoppable. now i dont know if there worth it at all. everyone now uses somthing else. i use predators though i tend to posses it. can you still buy marks of chaos and possession upgrades or is that gone ive not looked in awhile. and yes ulfast the chili was great. if you want i can give you her recipe, takes like an hour and is uber simple.

Ulfast - March 30, 2012 03:10 PM (GMT)
But I use the dreadnoughts and I laos tihnk they are good. Now several games where they have won the game for me and very seldom leting me down. I agree that GW could indeed make more of them then they are now but still, they are not as bad as many thinks. Specially after the new FAQ.

Loki - March 30, 2012 04:52 PM (GMT)
Oh, I use a Dreadnought in every single game. gotta love their "Insane" table.. thanks to that specific rule, I tend to leave a Dreadnought at one flank, supported by a squad of Iron Warriors in cover.. don't want unnessecary casulties, now do we?

jesseye - March 30, 2012 10:48 PM (GMT)
insane table? dont recall seeing that? is that in the codex or was it added as a fix? maybe wd? or did i just overlook?
