Title: To conquer...
deathmonkeymarine - April 1, 2012 01:27 AM (GMT)
So you're a warsmith looking to invade an imperal world.
What does your grand company look like?
(I.e. what do you bring with you and how much?)
jesseye - April 1, 2012 01:43 AM (GMT)
about 5,000,000 pizzas charged to rogal dorn.
Warsmith Gorrched - April 1, 2012 04:25 AM (GMT)
I would be looking at something around 2,000 marines (total here...) somewhere around half a million foot sloggers/slaves...not to mention at least a demi-legion of titans, at least a couple regiments of armoured things...
Something around there. At one point I wrote up everything I would think my grand company would have but I cant seem to find that pesky word document...

^ this! :lol:
Kidding aside, depends on what kind of planet. but basically, I think my Warsmith would attack in order like this;
Scouting
- Slip into the target system undetected and land on the planet in question, favourable if a meteor shower is passing to camouflage the descent.
-Pinpoint planetary defences and survey weakpoints in enemy strongholds.
-IF possible, infiltrate enemy ranks and sabotage any means of off-world communication.
First Wave
- Send bomber wing after bomber wing to crush space defence installations and Naval defence fleet, holding back the majority of the fleet for the planetary assault.
- With the information gathered from the Scouting stage, destroy planetary defences with orbital bombardment.
Planetfall
- Take over spaceports intact by means of drop-pod assault and thunderhawk gunships-
- Reinforce/fortify the captured spaceports if needed.
- Begin deploying ground forces.
WAR!
- Sytematically wipe out settlements, enslave population
- Fortify strategic points on the planet.
- Besiege enemy fortresses/forges
- Claim the spoils of war
Aftermath
- Ship nessecary resources and supplies from the planet to the transport ships within the fleet (slaves, machinery, weapons, tanks, titans, whatsoever)
- Fire cyclonic torpedoes upon the planet after it's depleted for resources and supplies. (Yes, my Warsmith is THAT cold and sadistic.)
- Leave a "message" for those who come to investigate the fate of the conquered planet, letting them know who stood behind its downfall.
My Warsmith's attacking force;
-Fleet Organisation;
1x Battle barge Ferrum Ignatus, 2x Styx Class cruisers, 1x Acheron Class cruiser, 3x Iconoclast Class destroyers, 4x Idolator Class raiders, 2x Soulcage Class slaveships, 4x transport ships, 30x Thunderhawk/Thunderhawk variants.
-Armoury;
5x Land Raiders, 14x Predator variants, 6x Vindicators, 2x Shadowswords, 10x Basilisks, 5x Bombards
-45th Grand Company;
Warsmith Lord Ephistos Goliath the Patient, 3x Captains, 150x Chaos Marines, 50x Raptors, 50x Havocs, 12x Dreadnoughts, 50x Chaos Terminators, 20x Rhinos
-Traitor Guard(cannonfodder);
4000+ renegades, 100x Chimeras, 50x Leman Russes
-Legio Mortis;
6x Warlords, 4x Reavers, 4x Warhounds

two of my strike cruisers would raid nearby imperial worlds to draw of some of the imperial navy and forces on the planet
my strike cruisers would deploy a psionic missile (or whatever its called) to disrupt
the pursuing enemy and hopefully deal casualtys also while engaging the fleet in hit and run assaults
meanwhile the bulk of my grand company would assault the world. These are the steps i would take
1. I would ram my battle barge the iron citadel into the the defence installations to
do sufficient damage and hopefully disable the defense grid
2. The whole of my fleet would move in and anihilate anything that stands in its way thus clearing a path to a ground assault
3.i would deploy gunships, stormbirds and drop pods to the assault. The drop pods will spearhead the assault with undeniable speed and iron while the gunships provided massed fire and the stormbirds disgorged the elite retinue of terminator armoured killers
within a few days and weeks all resistance would have been terminated and slaves would be swarming the ships, not to mention scrapped tank weaponrary and anything that would be useful. The bulk of the imperial fleet would give up the chase and return to late to see there beloved world in ruins. The iron warriors would leave pict casts and videos of indiscriminate torture, death and slavery
Fleet ships- the iron citadel (battle barge) the melded iron (a force of slave ships)
the cold strength( cultships melded with strike cruisers) strike force invictus
(two strike cruisers )
iron warriors-117 tactical marines 39 terminators 15 obliterators 50 assault troops with jump packs
mortal renegades
25,000 cultists 50 chimeras 10 baneblades 17 leman russses
dark mechanicum-
death heads (yup the ones who breached the imperial palace but only 1/4 is mine)
3 reaver class titan one imperator class titan
beat. That

Obliterators, lots and lots of Obliterators.
And a bunker for me to sit in and simply gaze at the las-rain.

that never occured to me. Than again i like to steal and kidknap rather then blessing worlds with the gift of nurgle <_<
Loki - April 1, 2012 08:24 PM (GMT)
And miss the opportunity to fill the holds of our slaveships with... slaves?
Barabas - April 1, 2012 09:38 PM (GMT)
scenario: Forge world
ojective: seize and harvest titan weaponrary
im basically assaulting the forge world with my army that was introduced in my original post. Nevertheless the chances of suceeding are perilously low since i am surely going to fight a demi titan legion and skitaari forces
step 1: Assault a forge world which has inactive defense grids due to being neglected thus removing any threat of space massacre
step 2: avoid imperial patrol routes and recon then move unto the planet
step 3: hack into com networks and long range moniters removing threat of detection but suspicion increases
step 4:Move my fleet into position for deploying my forces onto the ground
and fortify the position
step 5: Unleash te entire strength of the fleet unto one-three of the notable manufactorums on the planet, weakiening it heavily but alerting it to the enemy
step 6: Ready bombardment cannons and deploy all my forces unto the weakened maunfactorum or manufactorums. The forces of the mechanicum, caught of guard by such a savage assault would break the remaining forces.
step 7: my army would win by seperating the forces of the skitaari apart, taking fortress and salvaging weapon.
step 8: my forces would then redeploy from the forge world having gained valuable rescources

What about the possibility of establishing an empire and challenging the foolish imperial dogs to dig you out after capturing a system or two?
Also, I'm with Loki, slaves and siege, it’s what IW do. If you want to hit and run, call the night lords, we will take our artillery and blow stuff up! =D
I'm surprised I haven't seen more artillery...any reason in particular?
hushrong - April 2, 2012 01:36 AM (GMT)
I want to tell you guys...but I'm a bit paranoid that you will use it on me! :angry:
I would say to wait and read the next installment of my fluff in the Iron Library. However, there is a something very similar used in the old gundam anime. *I had one of those "THIS IS AN AWESOME IDEA" to only realize a lot later that it'd been done before...kinda. <_<

1. That would depend on what, where and when reinforcements arrive, the state of the system and its own standing forces
2. Maybe because i used up all my artillery ammunition on previous raids?
thats the whole reason im scavenging

ive been thinking about this and have been loathe to reply. mainly for one reason. we know more or less what your against but what are our resources? i mean i could say ill take a million basilisks and other assorted artillery batteries, and definitely a few armored company or two of super heavies and titan destroyers since it is a forgeworld. at least a full grand company of marines, since its a forge world the prize will be worth the cost. id have to have at least one fleet patrol the surrounding area hunting for any relief forces sent to retake the system so defiantly will be talking to Huron bout joining in whether you like the corsairs or not they seem to have the best fleets and id say they will jump at the chance to increase the size.
i guess yea id try to get some worldeater warbands to assault their fortresses, why sacrifise my iron warriors needlessly. i dont think id want deathgaurd though i have nothing against them. just that id try to hold on to the forge world to start a new empire, i dont want it becoming a plagueworld. ill be living here dont need to lose my slaves to disease either. people seem to forget your workforce.
id try to soften my initial blow by sending in alpha legion long before my initial attack to convert some traitors before enacting the attack.
i would NOT even glance at abbadon. i want my own empire not to increase his own. my goal would be to strengthen the iron warriors not to take a planet for abbadon to dictate what he gets out of my hard earned prize. hes nothing but a spoiled kid that lives in daddies shadow.
oh yea take along a titan legion. depending on what kind of forge world maybe build more titans. failing to take the planet i would destroy it utterly to prevent the imperium from using it.
id also try to find as many corsair bands as possible, mostly small weak ones trying to create their own destinies, newer the better. give them the chance to earn a name for themselves and promise them a new system to carve out their empires and a forgeworld to use as a base of operations. if im staying im taking freinds. you move into a system they always take a planet then you have ONE warband trying to hold a system against all comers, however if you have alot of armies with common goal holding a system you may keep it for awhile. if not you have a sheild to hide behind while you take your time with your withdraw from the system and can loot for all your worth.
jesseye - April 2, 2012 05:48 PM (GMT)
oh and yes id virus bomb the crap out of the planet, id bomb the planet so hard that future generations on far off systems will be born with a third arm!!!! if everyones dead then who will man their titans? plus the less collateral damage to factories and titans as well as warmachines the better for me. i can always bring slaves and always find more elsewhere.

this is actually a good idea because titans are not harmed by virus bombs. The only problem is that the people controlling the titans would still be alive aswell but atleast it removes all the other hostile forces

There needs to be more of this kind of thinking around here! ^.^

the pilots of the titans wouldnt be in the titans until their ready for the attack. if ive not made planet fall yet......... not titans on the field yet. chaos attacks they generally attack in ground assaults and the titans would not be out due to fear of a planet wide bombardment. if you can catch them completly off gaurd then they wont know your even coming. hence sending in alpha legion before you get there and task them with taking out sensors and radar. then while their outside enjoying their picnic lunch not knowing anything is wrong boom they slimey goo
