Well, I am so far enjoying the new book, and once again being able to build unique lists. I was wondering how you guys prefer to outfit your aspiring champs. I am currently using 2 main loadouts for mine. The most common is dual power weapons, one axe and one sword, with melta bombs. This loadout allows my champ to handel pretty much anything he is thrown against. Which is good since he now has to challenge anyone he meets. The two weapons allow me a good chance to kill termies (usually at the cost of the champs life) and lets me strike at initative order against anything else, Blus I still get my +1 attack. plus they look kinda ba stalking forward with an axe and sword drawn, especially my 'zerk champs. The 2nd loadout is more Iron Warriors IMO I use a power fist and combi-melta. Obviously, this guy is part of a tank hunter squad. The combo allows me to deal a lot of damage and I don't worry about not getting a 2 weapon bonus for the combi melta since the Pfist doesn't allow one anyway. This loadout has a couple of drawbacks, mainly it's too expensive and the champ usually falls in challenges due to low initative. Well thats how I do it, what about you guys?

Mate!!
i've been super struggling with this issue!
i love my champs with powerfist/combi-meltas but every combat they die first challenge sad.gif
your load out of having some guys with poweraxe & powersword is actually an awesome idea!
i may try throwing in some powermauls aswell! you sir are a game changer!!

I just give them a power fist for breaking heads in the most effective manner. If they're being challenged by something that vastly out-classes them, that guy would probably do a better job killing 3 or 4 of my Marines rather than focusing his fury on just one guy. Plus if the champ doesn't die he's probably going to one-shot a freaking HQ choice and earn back triple his points value.

Power Fist and Bolt Pistol for me. The Fist can take out pretty much anything, so getting stuck in combat with Dreads and such aren't a major worry. But, I like the sound of Power Axe and Power Sword though...

I was thinking of going with a powersword...but fists huh?

Might have to try that out this weekend.

I'm kinda disappointed that Aspiring Champions have to pay HQ-level prices for their wargear, though. I only give a Champion a Power Fist if I'm almost certain he's going to end up in combat at some point.

Aww, and here I was all happy that my HQ units only had to pay Aspiring Champion-level prices for their wargear. sad.gif

Power fists have always been around the 25pt mark for high-end units like Lords and Terminators. IIRC your average Aspiring Champion used to be able to get it for about 15.

I play around with mine. Generally they have a Powerfist/Plasma Pistol combo. I like plasma and the look of them really fit the theme I have for my IW. I also have a champ with twin lightning claws and one decked out with power axe/power sword. Its all about the fluff.

Granted I haven't played a single battle with them in a couple of years I am slowly working through them to bring them up to codex snuff then I'll toss them out into the slaughter fields.

Most of my foot slogger champions (Marine Squads, Chosen, Noise Marines) Have a Power Sword combined with either a combi weapon or a bolt pistol, my more specialised units (Terminators, Raptors) have twin lightning claws.

I had been tempted to go Lightning Claws on everything, but it'd limit my points rather horribly to have everything that can have them armed with them.

not to mention that anyone with a 2+ save would be nearly unstoppable.

+1 Attack and re-rolls To Wound could crack 2+ saves through attrition. It's not ideal, but you get to do it at Initiative, so a Mark of Slaanesh wouldn't go astray either...

Don't forget the whole Feel No Pain with the Icon added in.
Seriously, spod marines dedicated to Slaanesh are nasty now.

OK, I'm noob, wtf is a spod marine?

Back on subject Its been brought to my attention that a marine with a power fist and lighting claw still gets +1 attack due to the way the "special weapon" rule is written. I don't know if this rule will be changed in a future faq but for now it makes for a pretty dangerous (though a bit costly) champ
