Had the chance to skim through the Pandorax campaign book the other day. Was surprised to see mention of a Black Legion Obliterator, Kreator Rex, being responsible for constructing several variants of Daemon Engine for Abaddon's campaign. I would probably chalk this up to the varying nature of the depictions of Obliterators in fluff. Daemon World has them unable to speak, Siege of Castellax has them violence-prone yet coherent, and now they are actually able to build techno-sorcerous war engines.

Going by the old specialist games article on using the Obliterator Virus in Inquisitor, we could probably chalk this up to variations in the amount of corruption and insanity induced by the transformation. Unlucky or unprepared members become little more than glorified gun-servitors or daemon engines themselves. Others survive with their original skills intact, which with the Dark Mechanicum background would likely allow the construction of complex devices given time and materials.

I would be interested to see fluff on how this process would affect construction of daemon engines. Much like the Necromancer/Liche fluff in WFB, the transition might protect the Warpsmith or Dark Mechanicus adept from being destroyed by the immaterium through making them part of it.

Iron warriors-breaking walls and taking names.
