Welcome to the IVth!
First I would say you need to get a rule book (probably try to get the one from the starter box, Assault on Black Reach). That book is smaller (so a bit more convenient), a bit cheaper than the full-sized one, and good for starting out. Then you will also need a codex as it tells you everything about your army: Their background & history, point-value of their units and war gear, and rules/abilities that make them unique. Those two books are important because it tells you how the game is played and how your army will be playing it (to a degree). As for getting an army (and these books) without spending too much cash (who ever willingly wants to spend lots of money? Truth be told, miniwargaming is expensive but it pays off good & well when you build/convert/paint up minis and take them on the battlefield. Be warned, it is also ADDICTIVE! One last thing I'd advise is finding a group. If you do not have folks starting up with you I would suggest finding a gaming store and see if you can watch some games played and the like. Hope some this stuff is of help to you! -------------------- |

i recommend finding someone who has the rulebook and/or codex(s) and determining if the way it is played fits you before spending any money, then when you wanna start painting get the 40k starter kit from GW which contains 5 space marines and a good amount of paints for ultramarines in order to get a feel for it

If there's a store near to where you live, got there and ask for a test game. Usually sth like that is offered in all stores. From there you need a rulebook, a codex (of the army of your choice) and then you can start picking up models, build and field armys. Good starts are armyboxes and as was already mentioned ebay and the like.
