Fire resistance?, Maybe some creatures should be fireproof

Does anyone else think it's strange that "living fire" can be killed with a fireball? Maybe they should be impervious to fire, so that you have to use weapons or a cold spell to damage them. Forcing mages to use different combat spells and weapons would make the game more interesting too, especially since right now it's to your advantage to use one attack spell exclusively, so that its power level keeps going up.

Golems could be immune to heat and cold... Dragons immune to fire...

Yes I also think it's strange biggrin.gif;).

I'm "working" now on my next game in which I want to have fire, cold, poison,mind (any other ideas?) resistance. And magic system where mage can create it's own spells from magic words (runes?) for exemple : fire + throwing = fireball spell wink.gif, fire + on self = suicide.


Why I wrote working in quotation marks? Because for now all I have got is design doc, a nice looking title screen and a new algorithm for generating dungeon levels (supports rooms,corridors and looping between rooms (A->B->C->A). I have problem with graphics.. Should I reuse some of Sigmore Mines sprites or should I make new one. Also should I go for isometric pixel art look (Pixelart character tutorial) or maybe top-down look like in this game : Screen1.. Or just take graphics from Sigmore Mines, change battle and magic systems, add few new monsters, don't touch storyline(as if there is any wink.gif ) and call it Sigmore Mines 2... Right now I'm biased towards new game with new feel for gameplay, new battle and magic systems, and with story (more RPGish then Hack&Slash).

Ok I managed to make Living Fire immune to fire, it was rather hack in the system than normal solution but it works.. I could also make dragons and golems immune but I fear that mage will be useless character because of that.. I also reduced "the power" of healing spell, this should make the game a bit harder I hope. You told me somewhere on the forum that you killed dragon with one fireball, should I also make spells less powerfull?

You should reuse your name, Sigmore Mines 2, to continue making that name known (if you don't have a very good name already).

I could help you with sprites if you want to. Been doing sprites for different games for many years (but I can also code most languages). I think isometric view will be better in this small resolution as you should be able to have more detail with same amount of tiles.

Where can I read more about that computer version of the classic Hero Quest? smile.gif


Btw, "fire + on self = suicide" sound unnecessary. Should be "fire + on self = fire resistance" or something.

Hmm maybe I should but I'm afraid that maybe story of the game will not match it's title.. Also if I will make SM2 people will stop buying SM (but they will stop buying it also if I make this other game better:D )


sure if you are willing to help, I could use some spriting help of yours:)
