Title: Ticking Sound From Engine

vimo - February 18, 2012 06:31 AM (GMT)
hey guys, i've noticed this a while ago but when i start my car i hear a ticking noise from the engine. As i accelerate the ticking noise gets louder.
The car i drive is a is300.
now im not too sure but as far as i know i think its the lifters causing this.
I think its because i gave my car into the local mechanic to get it serviced and they used cheap oil.
So my main question is how do i get rid of this. mind you the car is up for service again. I was thinking of buying the oil and giving it to the mechanic.
what sort of oil should i be using on this car?

ive been hearing that Nulon fully synthetic oil is the way to go but wanted your opinions first.

Input would be great guys.

thanks Vimo

Spend some time reading bobistheoilguy

Probably the viscosity has a bigger effect than the oil type and certainly more than the brand name.

I use any 10W-40 synthetic.

You still use 10w-40 after reading BITOG :P At least you run synthetic & not semi full of VI additives/sludge. I've been converted to 0w-30 not quiet brave enough to try 0w-20 like they all run in the states. I even put 0w-30 in the Mrs black top 20v Carib. Runs much better than it ever did with 10w-40 magnarubbish

vimo what grade of oil are you currently running? I'd give Moibil1 5w-30 a try as it'll probably be the easiest to get hold of.
