Can someone tell me the largest tyre in width that was fitted to the rear of a (G)SXE-10?

Ive fitted an 18x9 on my GXE10. No dramas. I did call nelson from syd guard rolling. Charged me 60 bux each side.

Think he was after the standard tire sizes... I'll check at work soon but the standard tires on the stock 17x7 +50 wheels were only 215/45R17

Lol vimo I have had 18x9 fitted to the front! With 215 stretched tyres! I know what can be fitted but I need to know standard sizes for legal reasons.

What are you trying to work out, Max size or whats legal?

I have had 18x9.5 on the rear with 275x35

The engineer told me i could not put anything wider then a 8" on the car (legally in Australia)


I believe the Gita had a 8" factory

Gitas had 17x7.5 +50 on the rear, but unsure on the tire, think it was a 225/45/17 perhaps

What engineer was that Geoff? ADRs state that pro 79' you aren't allowed to have wider then 8" on the front wheels and your track inst increased by 25mm of ANY car unless they come factory fitted. NSW VSI's also state that you are allowed to increase the width of your wheel by 1" from the tire placard as long as the track isn't increased by more then 25mm WITHOUT an engineers certification. With an engineers certificate you are allowed a considerable amount more but you still cant engineer larger then 8" on the front and as long as the rear does not scrub, the rolling diameter doesn't increase by 15mm, track doesnt increase by 25mm and no part of the wheel/tire extends past the guard you can fit any wheel you like.

When I said tire I was brain dead from working a short week I meant wheel width sorry guys.

Also just a note for those who run 235/245 on a 17" wheel you are NOT allowed to run a 45 profile tire as this increases your rolling diameter by more then 15mm. The up side of this is a 235/40/17 actually has 5mm less rolling diameter then 215/45/17 (625mm) and is a significantly cheaper size. I bought Dunlop sp9000 in 235/40/17 for $160!

Engineering law's have changed recently and the list of engineers have shortened. You would be best off calling around to find an engineer and see what will and will not pass.

^^^ these conform with the updated regulations for NSW. The only reason Im concerned is police are starting to crack down on it significantly. If you can make it up to Newcastle look up Athol Mullen. He is incredibly fair and knows his stuff. There is also a really good reason there isnt as many engineers left...

Athol is not on the new scheme last I checked (about a month ago).
