I have seen a few of these advertised on Trade Me:

The theory sounds solid... but in reality? Your thoughts?

They work fine! I've had cars with magnetic plugs & it is amazing how much steel they pick up.

In theory all that steel ends up in the filter before it circulates the engine, but it goes through the oil pump on the way first.

The stuff that is too heavy to be picked up by the pump intake sits on the bottom and eventually sloshes onto the magnet, where it stay.

Cheap magnets will do the job just as well, even if they are not as nice looking!!
