Title: Auckland Lazy Sunday Lunch Run - August 26th
Description: Details in First Post

hxc_blade - July 21, 2007 12:08 PM (GMT)
Hey guys,

Ive noticed that i just LOVE driving my Altezza down a semi-country road over in East Auckland (in the Whitford area... the road itself is about 10-15 mins drive) And i thought, "hey, why dont i organize a "lazy sunday" cruise for all the club members in auckland who might be keen to just chill for a cup of coffee followed by a nice cruise... i havent really set up a date in particular, but im thinking mid-late August, which gives Mother Nature plenty of time to recover from this crap weather we've been having...

So, if any1 is keen, just toss ideas out here and we'll organise something...

~Cheers,
Wayne :D

or go further to Kaiaua & back through Hunua!

Great runs, I used to run night road-rallys through there, but they never took off in Altezzaclub.

Why not eh, I'll let Wayne handle this meet :)

Although I feel that ACoNZ needs something like what SilviaNZ etc do, National Meet on a track once a year too :D

xavier - July 24, 2007 12:09 PM (GMT)
sounds good, but not too early in the morning... ;)
can't confirm yet, have to check my roster... hopefully i am off that day... :)

hxc_blade - July 24, 2007 12:23 PM (GMT)
Hey Guys,

Thanx for the support... its the first time im organising something like this so yeh, bear with me...

Looking at all the positive feedback ive got, it seems like its gonna be one heck of a run..

Ok, so im guessing the 26th of August is ok for everyone? just let me know ok? feel free to PM me, or just give a quick shout out...

I'll soon be making a list so i know the number of members (plus friends too) and cars and then i can organise stuff from there... (the last thing u want is about 60 crazed Altezza fans in a tiny Howick Coffee shop on a sunday morning haha)

So yeh, seems good. Hopefully i'll have the numbers to work with by the start of August...

So the best thing to do is just state ur name in the following post and names of friends/family members that wanna cruise along... and once i have a decent list, i'll create a timetable as to what exactly we can do on a sunday morning...

Greeneyes mentioned Fish n Chips over at Maraetai...

feel free to throw ideas in, its all appreciated.

Cheers for now,
~Wayne =)

blitzNUR - July 24, 2007 06:54 PM (GMT)
this wouldbe my first to a altezza car club meet.

can we bring friends along ?

xnickx - July 24, 2007 07:28 PM (GMT)
Bring your friends Tommy, as long as their cars are slower haha.

Sounds good Wayne, possibly a cruise of some sort too, with somewhere nice and big for us to all park up together for photos etc.

Here are a few names I can remember:
xnickx - Nick
ericteza - Eric
Altezza Girl - Diane
Blue - Scott was is? (sorry Im horrible with names :woot: )
sutzee - Lee
xavier - Choon
blitzNUR - Tommy

If you need to round up troops, what I used to do was just pop an PM to the Auckland members that usually attend meets, and just fill them in.

Follow link for past meets etc and see who attended:

greeneyes - July 25, 2007 10:07 PM (GMT)
509 Ti Rakau is always a good meeting place, lots of parking behind the BP station.

There's a couple of photos and a map you can copy from earlier NZ meets.

Looking good-

blitzNUR - July 26, 2007 12:11 PM (GMT)
how about one tree hill. where the bqq place is. HEAPS of room. cos thats where we go for out nzice club meets.

we could have a bbq there.

hxc_blade - July 26, 2007 12:31 PM (GMT)
We could.... but then we'd be crossing our fingers, hoping its a sunny day.... and trust me, its no fun to drive with ur fingers crossed..
We could use it as a Summer Cruise idea... or if someone has a mini portable bbq, we can grill stuff on one of the beaches in the area...
Just worried a tiny bit about the weather cus if its blowing, we'd have ppl running after their weeners that are swept off the barbie..

Scoope - July 26, 2007 10:11 PM (GMT)
I should be available, pencil me in too...

Cheers!

hxc_blade - July 29, 2007 12:50 PM (GMT)
Sounds good guys...

So most ppl keen with coffee b4 cruise, then fish n chips?

Does any1 wanna lead the cruise off? like being "Top Gun" B) on the Altezza "Snail Trail"??? cus i dunno how cruises really go about here, and i dont want it to be a "scramble to the finish line" so yeh... if any1 wants to make the journey from Howick, thru Point View Road and off to Maraetai (via Twilight Road) and then back up again?

Shot gun it here!! :)

Shuks - July 29, 2007 06:17 PM (GMT)
Can we bring our mates?

xnickx - July 29, 2007 06:53 PM (GMT)
Sounds good Wayne, no need for a 'leader'.
However it helps if there is someone at the front, middle and back of the convoy that knows where they are going, incase the convoy gets broken up by lights etc.

Go to http://www.smaps.co.nz and plan a journey there, paste the image into paint and highlight the journey lol and post it up here.

Dont forget finding a nice place to park up and have pics taken etc, a nice big carpark that will be empty on Sunday etc.

  Can we bring our mates?

Never been just a members only meet, check the Wenderholm meet pics, whole families and car load of friends attended too lol

greeneyes - July 29, 2007 09:53 PM (GMT)
Yeah, you will need a route planned out and have two or three people who know exactly where to go. It's easy to get split up and hard to find a place to stop so everyone can catch up, you need a long parking strip for 10 or 12 cars in a line. You will have some people who have never been on those roads, or been to where you're going.

The leader needs to be able to sort out what to do when you run into 60cyclists out on a training run in some tight winding blind bit of road, or where to go when the road is closed that day for a walking marathon...

Trying to get everyone to overtake the car with a boat trailer on the Maraetai road is also a worry, never mind having a dozen cars trying to do a U-turn when you miss an intersection...

hxc_blade - July 29, 2007 10:15 PM (GMT)
Ok guys, umm I found parking... Its on Fencible Drive in Howick... Its an All day parking and the bottom half of the car park is always free... We can meet up there for coffee, then cruise down to Howick Beach for pictures, and then head on to Maraetai.

Fencible Drive Parking (Bear in mind, the parking is OPPOSITE the Orange tack, on the other side of the road....

And we can follow the Whitford-Maraetai Road....

Nick, u know where the fish n chip shop is? As in, how to get to the actual wharf, once we pull off Whitford Road?

To cut it short and honest, Im a typical Shore Whore!

Aka no I dont.

However since you seem to know the roads out that ways pretty well, another way to plan a drive is to use:
http://www.wises.co.nz/

On the left of the page you should be able to see
QUOTE
Get Driving Directions

Click that and you can punch in the start and destination of the journey, and it will tell you which is the fastest, most convienent routes.
Also gives you street by street navigations with how many kms on that stretch before a turn.

E.g.:
Turn left at MTRWAY EXIT 1 and carry on for 4.5kms
Right at 3rd traffic lights onto ROAD A and carry on for .9kms
Carpark on left after 3.2kms etc etc etc.

Its a brilliant site for planning meets :D

greeneyes - July 30, 2007 12:33 PM (GMT)
google maps...

greeneyes - July 30, 2007 01:01 PM (GMT)
Haha! We've hammered those roads before! I've been looking through the old runs trying to find the one we did just like that map- Must have been a spontaneous one after a coffee in Botany.

We had a lunch run to a restaurant at Waiuku-
http://forum.altezzaclub.org.au/index.php?showtopic=50

we went to the Kaimai Cafe & Tauranga through there-
http://forum.altezzaclub.org.au/index.php?showtopic=142

the Blackberry Pie run was down there too-
http://forum.altezzaclub.org.au/index.php?showtopic=2316

and we did the Ngatea Lunch run, but that didn't get a writeup...

Just great driving roads!

hxc_blade - July 30, 2007 01:52 PM (GMT)
Holy Fish n Chips!!!

Thats a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG Run...

How long would it be??? 2 hours of driving??? or more??

greeneyes - July 30, 2007 10:28 PM (GMT)
Yeah, hour and a bit each way. 80km down, tad more coming back.

Hell, you've got to give those engines some exercise!!

I can give you exact directions if you like, so you can have a quick practice run...

:D

Skitzso - July 31, 2007 06:38 AM (GMT)
Im in for that run ive done it many times hope the wheather is good

hxc_blade - July 31, 2007 11:45 AM (GMT)
Yup Sounds good....

Can u please post a copy of the directions to Nick?

IS anyone else interested in learning the course to ensure we dont get lost?

hare - August 1, 2007 02:27 AM (GMT)
Iwant to go as well,is everything confirmed?

greeneyes - August 1, 2007 04:34 AM (GMT)
Gentlemen, start your engines.. If you haven't got Google Earth downloaded, do it now! All this is just zipped off Google Earth satellite photos.

OK, here we go- Starting from the Mangamangaroa Gorge just out of Botany on the way to Whitford. Turn right in Whitford and head for Brookby past the golf course, then T-junct right at the end of that road where the Give Way is. A km or so after that turn left into Twilight Rd, running over a WRC International Rally stage to get to Clevedon. Wait for everyone at the T-junct, turn right into the shops and turn left at the Clevedon island, heading for Kawakawa Bay & Ness Valley.
