I'm sure there will be plenty posted-

We had three red cars, camel19 (kyle), greeneyes (me!) and Jasestu (jason). The Skyline was his brother's. Blktez (Dave) was racing, as was Dirty Altezza (Dave also) in his white one.

cpufix (Colin) and his wife came up from Wellington, as did Slipstream (Shane).

TEZZA (also Shane) came over from Rotorua and AMM (Anita) and her man (Mark) convoyed down with me from there as well.

Boothy bought the V8 Altezza down from Hamilton, but a wheel bearing collapsed after the first session he used it in, and it was back on the trailer again. Bad luck of the day! sad.gif

Diane (AltezzaGirl) came down from Auckland and of course it was all organised by Justin (mr No Limitz Flyboy) who did a really brilliant job! Thanks man!

Best moment is a tossup between watching Kyle's Dad (nope- it was Mark, Kyle's dad was in the Commodore) spin his Typhoon right in front of the pits, or hassling Dave's white Altezza a little and having him spin right in front of me!

I dived out early to get back to Aucks, about 3pm, and no-one had bent anything or blown it up! Its just gotta be the best day of the week!

Wicked good fun, though since I wasn't doing the photography thing I haven't really got a lot to show those who want to live vicariously...

Anywho, Flyboy signalling to me to start:

(thanks for your time and effort organising the day, bloody good fun)

And one of Boothy's V8 which seems to prefer to remain an enigma leaving early in the day:

Like Jason I found that, being behind the wheel while out with the Altezzas, it was just a tad difficult getting photos!

I'll start off with some of Boothy at the hairpin...

Thanks Justin for organising a fantastic day!

My own target of 48 sec wasn't achieved, but at least I got sub-50.

Who had the fastest Altezza on the day? Well apart from Boothy's V8, let's just say

Having had a chance to do a post mortem and a bit of navel gazing with Team magwarehouse.com over the day's results here are a few conclusions I've come to:

1. The track is just that bit less interesting now they've altered it so much from the original dry.gif , but we still had a fun day biggrin.gif

2. The new surface is DEFINITELY not as grippy as the old. This certainly didn't help with lap times even if it was much easier on tyre wear!!!

3. The Toyo R888's did a great job of providing extra mechanical grip to the tarmac ... but that resulted in more push understeer in the turns. The last time I did Taupo on Bridgestone GIII's I was able to break the back loose to counter the tendency to push understeer, and I believe I got better cornering speed as a result. Perhaps what I should have done is put Diane's road tyres on the rear of my car, and my rear stickies on the front of hers; she would then have gained turn in and me a loose back end to oversteer with w00t.gif

4. Camber plates and neg 3deg required next time!!!

PS
Where are all the fotos??????

PPS
I've sent TB2 a short videoclip of Boothy thru the hairpin and have asked him to host it with access from this thread.

My post mortem...
1. Yes it is less interesting without the esses.
2. I had more grip and was on crappier tyres than last time. Only change was a bigger front swaybar.
3. The 2nd hand Dunlops (off jasstu's Tezza) suffered from a bit of tread delamination due to aggressive turn in wink.gif and power on off the turns. (Power slide isn't a drift right? dry.gif )
4. Finish building the race car so it can be runing next time!

AWESOME DAY!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks to Justin for organising it all, thanks to Keith for the use of the helmet and my first ride round the track, thanks to Dave (BLKTEZ) for the ride, and to Tony (in the STI) and Stephen (S2000).

Will put up pics and video when i have time.
Have heaps of video Justin - will get it to you after I edit out the part where i nearly fell off the top step of the 'grandstand thing'!

I'm hooked! Can't wait for the next one - and I will definitely make sure the car is fixed so I can have a turn myself!

LOL! Did I break something? Kinda ... tranny overheated again and wouldn't manually downshift to 2nd. Only way to get around that is cool it down, by which time the session was over.

And thanx for the compliment cool.gif

Boothy at Taupo Hairpin

Right Click and Save As 15.5MB

Hey jasestu ... why won't this hypelink show as a hyperlink??????

jasestu says:
The space in the filename "Boothy vid.AVI" is confusing the forum software - you need to rename the file to Boothy_vid.AVI or similar.

...or put "%20" in the link where the space is, as I've done, link now works.

kool, thanx for that smile.gif

And here's a 2 mb DivX version of the same 14 second video for those who can't wait to get 15 megs:

Boothy Hairpin DivX.avi

Though you may have to download the DivX codec first - http://www.divx.com/, and it's 14.4 mb because they bundle it with software you don't need to install... rolleyes.gif It may seem like more to download, but you'll only need to do it once then you'll be able to play any other movies I recompress.

Only the factory fitted cooling. Never had an overheating problem with it before, and this is 4th Trackday.
