CT 200h TOPS INTERNATIONAL CRASH TESTS
• New CT 200h achieves five-star rating for all-round safety performance in independent Euro NCAP crash testing • Scores of 94 per cent for adult occupant protection, 84 per cent for child occupant protection, 55 per cent for pedestrian safety and 86 per cent for safety assist performance • WIL (whiplash injury lessening) front seats contribute to good protection performance in a rear impact Lexus CT 200h has taken top honours from two of the world's most respected crash test organisations - receiving a five-star rating from Euro NCAP and the "Top Safety Pick" status from the US-based Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). In Euro NCAP testing the CT 200h gained an overall score of 83 per cent, 8 per cent higher than the benchmark for gaining the top ranking, while also gaining a score of 94 per cent for adult occupant protection. The rating takes into account the car's performance in four areas: adult and child occupant protection, pedestrian safety and "safety assist" performance, which covers provisions such as stability control, seatbelt reminders and speed limiters. Top Safety Pick is the highest safety designation awarded by the IIHS. To qualify for the award, a vehicle must earn the highest rating of "good" in the IIHS' front, side, rollover, and rear impact evaluations and be equipped with electronic stability control. In its comments on the CT 200h's adult occupant safety performance, Euro NCAP highlighted the fact that CT 200h scored maximum points in the side barrier impact test, the good protection offered by the driver and front passenger knee airbags and the high level of protection against whiplash injuries. CT 200h also achieved a 'good' rating in EURO NCAP's rear impact protection testing which is the highest achievable rating, thanks to Lexus' second generation WIL (whiplash injury lessening) seat technology. The headrests on the front WIL seats are designed to sit as close as possible to the occupant's head in normal use. If a rear impact occurs, it is likely that the torso sinks into the seat, closing any gap between the head and headrest and reducing the risk of whiplash. Lexus Australia chief executive Tony Cramb said the result confirms Lexus as an industry leader for safety. "Lexus has always prided itself on offering industry-leading levels of safety and technology and CT 200h continues that story," said Mr Cramb. "The recent Euro NCAP and IIHS results only reaffirm Lexus' stance on safety and the class-leading safety equipment CT brings. "Both results recognise the efforts of Lexus' engineering teams and the safety credentials of Lexus CT 200h," Mr Cramb said. At launch, CT 200h was the first vehicle in its class to offer radar-based Active Cruise Control (ACC) and Pre-Collision safety (PCS) technology*. PCS detects an imminent collision and primes the front seatbelts and emergency braking to reduce the risk of injury and damage. If an impact becomes inevitable, it will also automatically apply the brakes. *PCS available on Sports Luxury models.  --------------------  |
