Hi guys, I'm in the market for new wheels and saw some on trademe, it is at a good price and one wheel is cracked.

Few questions, is it possible to fix a cracked rim? What would be the approximate prices? from experience..

Cheers

Is that an advan kreuzer?

Generally speaking cracks can be repaired on the inside of a rim, and once reapired mount the wheel on the rear of the car, but in this scenario it cannot be repaired as the spoke itself is fractured on the outside of the rim.

Yes DR-JEKL it is an advan kreuzer v..

So its not repairable at all?

These wheels are discontinued right? Was thinking of keeping the other 3 due to the price and source a new one but if they're discontinued there's no point..

Once the wheel is cracked its shot. You can repair it but it will be significantly weakened

yep- Think that you will have to grind the crack right out, no matter how deep it is. After that you fill the ground-out cut with weld, all the while making sure you're not introducing a distortion in the geometry of it.

What sort of impact did that?? There shold be a massive dent somewhere in that rim, unless it cracked without external force in which case you might want to look at another brand... ohmy.gif

yeah that rim is 100% stuffed, you could attempt to reweld it but its only a matter of time before it cracks again.

It seems the kreuzers commonly crack (I had one crack on me just before i sold my car) luckily mine fractured on the inside lip of the rim and it was easily repairable. You cant just grab any old filler rod to tig weld the rim you need to find a similiar material.

Since the kreuzers are a cast wheel, they generally have a moderately high Si content as a opposed to a forged 6061 rim.

And yes these rims have been discontinued for about 10 years, I had a mate source me a few sets in japan that advan had cleared out.

Yep don't bother - genuine wheels do crack quite often however.
