any thoughts on this?

any help regarding this matter would be much appreciated.. coz my original plan was to turbo charge my exsisting engine and do a manual conversion..

I am sure someone from this club has done it before, and then he went for a 1jz, then to a Supra =]

I did toy with the idea of using the same 1gfe block with 1ggte bottom end (pistons, rods) and then custom turbo manifold. The manifold pattern between the 1gfe and the 1ggte are different so be prepared to spend some $$ on a manifold.

Just put a different engine if you want power. Turboing the 1gfe isn't really reliable in my eyes and the gain is minimal.

oh ok.. coz ive been looking around and to turbocharge a beams motor its big $$ as well.. im not really after too much power.. the car is just so sluggish with 19' on them.. and an intercooler looks way cool on a is200 biggrin.gif dats why im looking around for a reliable and less hassle turbo conversion on the car

thanks

OK for starters yes you can drop in a 1G-GTE and it will bolt up to your J160 gearbox (if it has a slush box just stop reading lol). You would only do this if the engine was rebuilt from the ground up with forged internals and decent cams as these in their stock form are weak engines but I know back in the day alot of these built engines were hanging around that were capable of 250-400hp.

If you are considering any turbo option (1GFE+T, 1GGTE, 1JZGTE, 2JZGTE) you have to get rid of the manifold and unless your sticking to stock (pointless with a stock 1GGTE as it doesnt make much more power) your going to want to get a new turbo which requires a new custom manifold.

Then there is engineering, basically if you drop in a 1GGTE it will be VERRY hard to pass emmisions as its an old 80's engine that has to pass emmision standards for the year of manufacture of your car. Before you say who needs engineering, how about copping a red sticker, loosing your registration and never being able to drive your car again unless its returned to stock or engineered?

Best bang for buck is getting your hands on a JZX100 half cut and buying a R154 gear box. Easiest conversion you will ever do. Probaly cost you 5-6K on the halfcut and a few K more on exhast, Intercooler, ecu, tuning and getting it engineered. so MINIMUM you will need on the conversion is 10K. There is plenty of people on the forums that will help you out but most of them will tell you that unless you scored a really well built 1GGTE for a decent price, stick to the 1J.

Defiantly the cheapest and easiest option.

Unless you want to make some real power.

Care to read.... And what do you define as real power Matt?

LoL whats there to understand Geoff? He buys Cookies car for 5K more then his 1J conversion and ends up with two cars or he pays 10K for his 1J conversion and has his car off the road for a week or so?

Trying to add a turbo in any way to a IS200 or Altezza is going to be more the a week off the road, A conversion is going to be 2 months plus (That's if he knows what he is going and all parts ready) we all know a good conversion will take much longer!

All he needs to do is sell his car for 10-11k and buy cookies for 13.5k which means its a very cheap turbo option about 2k.

I don't know how it could be any cheaper and easier and hassle free with no time off the road.

lol - if I give you 10k, can I pick up my conversion in a week?

Real power starts when you can't use any more - but you crank it anyway.

LoL Matt you have a 2J with countless mods... 10K gets you everything you need for a JZX100 conversion. I ran the numbers over and over and over when I was considering doing my IS JZ conversion. Obviously if you’re going to get someone else to do it is a lot more and take a lot more time due to workshop restrictions. Brett was offering IS 1JZ conversions with brand new R154 gearboxes and basic engine management for 15K at least that was my quote when I first bought my IS....

Geoff a week straight not weekends lol I would take a week off to do my conversion smile.gif I been involved in a few around the boys in Newcastle doing cressidas and soarers ect and it would take a week of solid work to get it to a state thats its ready to be sent off to the tuners and the engineer wink.gif

Doing any sort of engine conversion into our chassis is a nightmare - not comparable with soarers and chasers. There are so many aspects that are simply not compatible. If there were a single tradesman with ALL the required skills to get it done - he could not do it all in a week. I dont think Ive met anyone with ALL the skills to make it happen - when you look into it they have always outsourced something. Which would make you pretty special if you could do it Winnie, in any amount of time.

A mate and I have done a manual 1jz into a Cressida in 2 days about 20hours!

Which included pulling the 7m out and fitting the 1jz, wiring, plumbing and welded an exhaust etc but that's because they share the similar chassis as the JZX81 chaser most of the parts just swap over.

The wiring alone on a is200 JZ conversion is over 40 hours.

Yes the wireing on a P3 Orion is prety hetic too (92 Wing 10SQN Avtech) smile.gif Havent done the IS 1J conversion but thats the bread and butter of my trade in the Airforce wink.gif The only thing I wouldnt be able to do is tune it. Give me a wireing diagram and a multimeter and ill have the wireing done in a day (maybie two without the diagrams) with the same engineering practices that I learnt in the Airforce, that sounded abnoxious but seriously come on its what I did for a living for christ sake, everything else is a hobby.

What would you know about fabricating a JZ block Matt you bought yours :/

Come on lets the sparks fly im having an awesome day today would love to take my anger out on someone 0411638986
