For those wondering. The title comes from this image circulated amongst mx5 communities.
![]() But anyway. Just thought i'd make up an introduction before i get into the swing of things. I'm also bored. My name's Dave/David/Stoogey. I'm also active on jdmst so hello to anyone here i recognise. So, abit of vehicular history. My first car (soon as i got my red p's basically), was an automatic 1994 corolla seca, it was white, the ladyfriend nicknamed it the MuffinRolla (please dont ask). On the way back from a camping trip (been a scout for 14 years of my life), unfortunate events occured. It overheated on the sydney to newcastle and spat coolant everywhere, eventually coming to a dead halt and not restarting near the wyong exit. It was towed to a mechanics where me and a mate who was in the car slept there overnight waiting for the workshop to open up. Morning came and by lunchtime a new rad was dropped in as the old one shat itself. I was freaking out because i was expecting 100% that it blew a headgasket, but to my surprise, it didnt, the radiator just pooped out and thats it. Oh what a feeling. Not long after that event, my uncle came home with a 1995 Honda Civic EG4 that he purchased off a mate for about $1000. Was rough outside but ran just fine. He barely uses his car anyway so i figured i'd swap with him just cause i wanted to try something different. So the civic went well for a while, did the usual p plater crap to it, lowered on koni's/kings, amber headlights, rota wheels. ![]() Till one day. Just outside the peter warren dealership. Overheated, died, wouldnt restart, WTF. Got it towed home, next morning, double check everything. Then. ![]() Yep, definite blown headgasket. Sold the car as is to a mates mate for $800. Hmm From then, it was a short period of time i was hunting for my next ride. I fell into a phase. I came THAT close to buying an ep91 startlet after seeing stuff like this. ![]() ![]() But in the back of my head, i had always wanted an na6 mx5. I just wasn't able to afford one as a decent one went for quite a premium, people are now starting to catch onto the cheap top down sports car brilliant handling motoring kinda thing. Saw the cheapest na6 on carsales, went to have a look, decided i'd take a punt and bargain hard as the guy wasn't too car savvy. Came home with a bog stock na6 for a steal. I took my time and did my thing with it. It was my daily after all so i made sure it was reliable. Fixed up any niggly bits, new alloy rad, hoses, filters. Then came yellowspeed coilovers, genuine 14" equip 01's, suede steering wheel, stainless exhaust and a sparco sprint junior. ![]() She looks abit different now though. The car has been keyed recently and they also farked up my front passenger guard (keyed the crap out of it and kicked/beat it), so ive got a replacement that just needs to be painted. Rule of thumb. Avoid parking in quiet dodgey streets in Liverpool. I also have an aftermarket front bar on it. A Racing Beat Type 1 which from the previous owner is blue, so the car essentially is multi coloured right now haha. Havn't had time to get anything resprayed yet. Why am i here again? Right. So, the miata is an AMAZING car. I love it to death. But at this current point in time, just doesnt fit in with my lifestyle, mainly due to space constraints as roadsters were never known for their storage prowess. You can see where am i leading too here. After being introduced to a gentleman by a mate of mine who happened to be selling his is200. I began looking deeper into them and found out, holy crap, its spot on for me right now. Fits the budget (kindanotreallysorta), is still rwd which i'd miss if i bought say, another civic, has 4 doors for more....you know, bears toyota reliability and lastly, looks down right sex when put together well. I say that because around my area there are ALOT of is200's, but they all look like they accidentally fell into QueenSt and come complimentary with a pair of douchebag wrap around gucci sunnies. So, as of tonight. I'd say roughly 9pm. I will be the proud owner of a Lexus IS200. More details and a build thread will follow as i get to it, but many of you may be familiar with it, it belongs to a member from here, and im pretty sure the previous owner was on here also so it does have a (good) history to it which is one of the main reasons i liked it so much. I'm fairly sure i was destined to save it from 22" dolce chromies and a cream leather interior. The mx5 is for sale, in its current state as im not sure if i have the time to do all the paint work on it. If it takes too long to sell i guess i might have to. If anyone here is interested let me know. Far out that was a read and a half wasn't it. TL;DR : Im buying an is200 See you all soon. Dave. |

Hi Dave, welcome to the club
Loving the wheels on the mx5 by the way, great size One of the reasons I bought my Altezza was for the practicality of a 4 door sedan, compared to a 2 door coupe that originally wanted. They are great cars, you wont be disappointed. Depending how much you want to do in terms of mods, i also recommend becoming a vip as will save you a lot of money in the future, you also get the cool as window stickers for your car, and can look up the build threads in the vip section which has some pretty cool stuff in it. -------------------- 1999 yellow rs200 6mt
