Do you have any examples of sad movies you like? It would help in providing suggestions that is closer to what you're looking for.

Not Chinese, but I highly recommend Grave of the Fireflies.

Early Zhang Yimou ones may interest you as well:
- Not One Less
- Old Well
- The Road Home

His early movies are a lot different to his later ones from Hero onwards.

apparently 1 Litre of Tears - Japanese movie...is really really sad...every girl watched it cried...

i've been trying to think of some other sad asian movies but TBH i couldn't think well because all i could think about is the possible reasons/motives behind your search....hahaha

Otherwise good old The Notebook will always do the trick...(that movie have served me very well icon_rofl.gif )

haha ok the real motive behind this...
amongst my mates, we're having multicultural movie nights...the past few have been indian/bollywood love stories which were quite sad. The next few are gonna be asian movies...and following that samoan, african etc.
The unofficial theme so far has been sad love stories, which have made a few cry. We're all trying to outdo one another with each movie we watch thereafter...kinda like a mini competition i guess on which country produces the sadest movies haha

OK, I still highly recommend the suggested movies, they're good movies even if you don't end up crying.
