So the previous owner looks to have had a go at the BBS alloys with paint stripper.
The job is fairly dodge and one is untouched (gun metal grey)  Whats the best way to polish them up? Which compounds? I have some left over cutting compound but is there something better? Also if there is a cheap option of paying to have this done I'd look at that also. Based in NZ. |

Plenty. Steel cutting compound is the best but very harsh (contrast to paint cutting compound that wont do anything). Start with using "Jiff" and see how that goes and if its not good enough have a go at specialist steel polishes for alloys that can be found at your local parts store. If thats still not good enough get yourself a buffer and buffing polish.

photos of the rims please! hard to judge but sounds like the clear coat on it is gone! ( you mentioned paint stripper)

Na.... It's obvious that the last owner used something to strip them as they were gun metal grey (only one is this colour now). I'd like to give them a polished look, just wondering the best & easiest way to go about it. Here a picture, compare front and back and you will see...  |

Yep def looks as though the clear coat has gone and the brake dust has seeped into the pores of the alloy and has stained them which is why most alloys have a clear coat... I would take them to get polished and painted myself....

Once they are down to bare metal autosol + lots elbow grease will shine them up, then best to clear coat or clear powder coat to keep them that way.

Yeah $240 per wheel from Arrow... what a rip may as well buy new ones.
Do I need to wet & dry sand to bring it down to metal? Or can I get away with a cut & buffer? Anyone guess what I'm doing this weekend  |

Shop around dude... you should be able to get away with $250 for all four...
