Hey guys, I'm planning on getting an aftermarket headunit soon. But after reading thru a few threads, how do I know if I have the inbuilt amps? Cos it seems like i'd need to prepare myself with a bypass before I grab my HU.

Cheers!
Will

Do you have Lexus or Altezza ?
Lexus would have the super sound system which has extra amp in the glove box.

You need to check if there is an amp in the glove box, left hand side.

Altezzas will have a "Super Live" rear speaker, clearly seen on the speak grille.

Or if your altezza has the the facelift headunit, it will say 'super live sound system' above the minidisc player.. instead of the 'live sound system'

Yeah, I've got an 04 lexus is200. So I'm guessing, my best hope is to grab a bypass right?

sorry for having to repeat another head unit thread tongue.gif

Probably, But just double-check by looking behind your glovebox.. to the left side of it, if an amp is present smile.gif

You definitely have a AMP and unfortunately a bypass cable is as much of a solution to replacing a punctured tyre with a bald one and there is no real DIY for this year model. Go get yourself one of these, it will allow you to use your factory amp and you wont kill your internal AMP on your shiny new headunit from the difference of impedance in the rear speakers.

This is your best option, dont be disappointed with other methods or bypass cables.
