Ok thanks man, out of interest is there anywhere we can buy an adaptor for this model car (2001 is200) which will make it plug straight in? I want to be able to remove the head unit in the future if i sell the car.

So after using the Panasonic Head Unit in JB HI FI today I have realised that it is rather crapy, Screen is un-responsive and the operating system looks like the result of a high school programming assignment, The colour was awful aswell.

However the Sony XAV63BT was nice to use, good colour and the screen was responsive. So I am now trying to track down a sale on these.

You'll need to do some home work I guess.

I found the following from Sony with spec's on the unit FM range looks ok to me.

Thanks, Went and saw the guys at Hyper today, I was planning on installing the Unit myself, but according to Hyper If they install it, it will come with a 3 year warranty, but if I do it I will only get a 1 year warranty. So for $89 im considering letting them do the install. Has anyone else come across this? or know where I can buy it that will give me a 3 year warranty with a DIY install? cheers.

Just make sure they know what they are doing and ask if they will use the RCA pre outs. If they sound unsure or try and convince you otherwise save yourself a huge headache and do it yourself

Thanks Winston, I will ask, they seem to know what they are doing there a prity big company now.

Out of Interest, If I buy the head unit from JB HI FI, Last time I checked they do not install them, Thus do I get a 1 or 3 year Warranty (and yes I should probably just call them and ask them).

it will be a one year, unless you have a receipt from an authorised/qualified installer.

Thanks, I cant decide what to do now,

Hyper have it for 750 + 120 Install + the cost of a fitting kit ( which I am waiting for a response from nick about) But Hyper are trying to tell me that you have to bypass the factory amp ??.

Rapid Radio have it for $1000 + $200 Install + Fitting Kit And they will install it using the factory amp.

Thinking I might buy from hyper and get Rapid radio to install. or I could give Hyper Winstons wiring diagram and see what they say??

Dont bypass the amp. The low impedance of the rear speakers (2ohm for the woofer 4ohm for the tweeters) will kill your headunits internal amp over time as most internal amps only support between 4-8ohm and it wont sound anywhere near as good as using the internal amp.

mmm not sure if im comfortable with you giving out my hard work so they can make money on it though. If they dont know how or you have to show them how then its not worth it champ.

Buy the cheapest headunit you can find and get Rapid radio to install it.

Those prices you posted seem quite steep?
Have you considered this?
http://www.onlinecaraudio.co.nz/Sony_XAV72BT_1_DAY_MAD_DEAL_
It appears to be the model up from yours for $699?
Or Repco has the XAV63 for $449?

Remember thats a NZ web site so its even cheaper again by 30% and you dont pay gst.

NZ have the same frequency range as we do. Just make sure they are willing to ship to AUS...

Update, Cars booked into Rapid Radio on the 28th, They matched Hypers price on the Headunit which was a 25% reduction in price athough they wernt too happy about it. Installation is not cheap, but at the end of the day its getting installed by people who know what there doing.

Thanks for your help guys.
