Hi guys .. any ideas what the difference is between these two Toyota oil filters:

90915-YZZD2 vs 90915-YZZJ3

In Aus they sell YZZD2 for the IS200. Other countries sell the YZZJ3 for the IS. Someone mentioned that the YZZJ3 has a non return valve in it, true? ... if yes, isnt that better for startup? ... my engine has a slight delay before the oil lamp goes off at start up. So in theory a filter with a valve will help.

My oil is due, so I am wondering if I should try the J3.

I can't imagine any OE filter not having an anti drain back valve in it these days, but who knows. We uses 90915-20003 Japanese filters over here on the 1G & 2JZ.

What oil are you running?

I think the YZZD2 is the same as 20003 ... different codes for the same thing.

I am not sure what the YZZJ3 interpret too. But may be the different between the 2 filters is J3 is slightly bigger .. thats how it appeared to me by Googling photos of the 2. But this is subjective and I wanted to know if there any other differences other then size.

I use the Castrol Edge 5W-30. I did a comparison some time ago to compare the viscosity of different oils out there .. here the link:

When I was running Edge 5w-30 I had slight tappet noise on cold start up, since moving to another brand it's gone away. It is quite a thick 5w-30 so that could be the issue rather than the filter. Try some M1 wink.gif

Only difference between the filters is that the 90915-YZZXX filters are made in Thailand (I think?) and the 90915-X000X ones are Japanese made
