Somethat I've been thinking about recently, anyone here in NZ have a few mins a week to spare updating or even re-making the NZ site?

Just take a look at the Australian version for an idea on how we can make it a bit nicer to the eye.

Maybe have like a mini archive of pictures from old meets etc?

I would love to do this but my computer knowledge stop at the forums and emailing etc.

Hey Nick,

I've dabbled in a few websites in my time and think i may be able to come up with something.

Can you tell me who currently hosts the nz website and what backend it has, does it have sql support, is it microsoft or linux, how much space is available etc...

Cheers
Thomas

Cheers for that Thomas.

I'll have to leave it to Keith to answer that one, the site was already up when I joined back in the day.

If we have a bit of space we could even possibly archive old pics from all the meets etc etc, get a few articles etc.

The zero-maintenance, one-page NZ website sits on ... ummm... forgotten! Hang on, I'll look it up-

Orcon! One of their "Free-1meg for every Kiwi" pages that I see they no longer offer! It is a file of 315kb, all little images and links. Frylai and his friend Thomas designed it, and after a couple of little mods I loaded it up and left it. The ads they added recently..

Thomas if you can PM me your questions/ideas in very simple English (I thought a backend was a diff!) I'll tell you as much as I can.

I guess I should put my hand up and point out I'm a web developer (well, was until I became the boss wink.gif).

If someone wants to do the design in Photoshop or similar I can code everything up (including photo albums that we can upload to etc).

Regarding hosting, I can probably do some for close-to-cost ($50-$60 a year for good NZ based hosting, unlimited space and traffic (within reason)).

Or we can get Dave to quietly hook us up with some space wink.gif

(Oh, and I can probably do the domain name for a few bucks less than I assume you currently pay on iserve)

It was mentioned a start page featuring a gallery...

I've been messing around with photobucket and this is just a sample of some images snatched from here...

Sure-

But make sure you include a picture from a meet showing a handful of cars, because getting together is a main part of it.

and make sure the cars featured don't have cut-off bits, which is hard in general club photos I know. Unless you're featuring a particular styling feature of course.. the calendar was good-

and have the time spent looking at a blank screen minimised.. the Loading... Loading... Loading syndrome.. Mind you, that's what "skip intro" buttons were invented for. laugh.gif
