so this is what doom looks like.
The weather today is slightly sarcastic, with a good chance of a) indifference, or b) disinterest in what they say.
Empty faces, blank stares, vague frowns, a frustrating common reluctance to believe; the stark symptoms of a diseased society. No one knows just how bad the world has it, and they won't know 'till it's too late.
Lord Voldemort is in the middle of his surge to power, and he's meeting strangely little resistance. Where have all the people gone? Well, you can't block a blow if you don't know it's coming.
oh, and you should know

This month is all crisp, bracing autumn days and cool fresh air. A few thunderstorms have carried over from summer, but they're brief and hasty, leaving warmth and sun in their wake.

significant somethings you should probably read these before you do anything, unless you don't intend to stay here long, but the latter'll make us very sad people.
bulletin board it's super-duper important that you keep up with the site happenings, so pleaseplease check back once in a while to make sure that you do. ;3
the daily prophet the leading newspaper in wizarding britain, it's widely read and believed, despite its reputation for telling half-truths or downright lies - read between the lines, people! the ministry has a forceful hand in it, so any biases because of current leadership are to be expected.
apply for a character take a look at the canon list, register, and get to writing up your application! you've only got five days after registration to get a complete one up. unfinished applications may be posted here to be edited to completion.
registrations after your character's been accepted, visit this forum and register your character for things like a prefect position or a spot on their house quidditch team.
ministry files congratulations on being accepted! after your application's been moved here, you can get to posting and 'playing and all that good stuff. :D
rejected applications they sat unfinished for too long, they just didn't cut it, or someone else was accepted for the same character; whatever the case was, they were all denied.
the hogwarts anonymous (newspaper) shh — hide it! a professor's coming, and you know they don't know about this paper. the HA is an unofficial, completely student-run periodical. it contains open party dates, gossip and occasionally more... interesting matters, and it's always to be kept on the down-low. the issues are charmed to appear like the daily prophet to anyone over eighteen, so it's incredibly hard for anyone to prove that it really exists.
personal agendas keep a log of the roleplays you're doing and have done; it's useful, especially because forgetting the threads you're in could irritate people. ;D
requests this is the spot to plan out all your intricate relationships and hunt for character relationships before you set them in stone in the plotting pages.
dungeons and sub-levels whether you're retiring to the warm hufflepuff common room — or the contrastly colder slytherin one — at the end of a trying day, reporting to potions class, or sneaking off to nick some food from the kitchens, you won't want to get lost in the labyrinth of winding underground tunnels.
ground floor the ground floor is mainly comprised of the entrance hall and the great hall, with a few broom cupboards and wayward rooms to fill the rest of the space.
first floor the first floor as typical as any other, with its own small collection of classrooms and teacher's offices - the staircases lead down to the entrance hall and up to the second floor. gasp.
second floor most people steer clear of this floor unless they're headed for the inter-house common room, because there's really nothing much else here, except a long-time out-of-order girl's bathroom haunted by a whiney murder victim named myrtle - it's not too attractive a prospect to be hanging out anywhere near there.
third floor the hospital wing, formerly found on the first floor, has relocated to the third, unfortunately for any wounded students who never got the memo. this floor also features the school's trophy room and armor gallery, a few classrooms, and the statue of a humpbacked witch who conceals a secret passage to hogsmeade.
fourth floor most of the fourth floor consists of the vast room that is the library, as well as - hallelujah! - a working girls' bathroom. myrtle just wouldn't stop staring at you in the other one, would she? there are also a few school secrets on this floor, if you're savvy with uncovering that sort of thing.
fifth floor The fifth floor boasts the grand prefect's bathroom, which happens to be one of the most impressive rooms in the school. With a tub that size, you'd wonder if the prefects didn't bathe together, all at once. Other than that, there are a few classrooms.
sixth floor this floor is rather uneventful, with nothing to see but a few classrooms and the boys' bathroom - which wouldn't be special, except for the fact that it's the only boys' bathroom in the school. unthoughtful, really.
seventh floor the uppermost level of hogwarts, this floor is rather interesting indeed, with the mysterious room of requirement and the gryffindor common room both. not that the general public knows the whereabouts of either of these rooms, of course. a shortcut passage from the fifth floor leads right up here, and lets out right near the common room.
hogwarts towers because hogwarts castle is just that, a castle (and a rather imposing one at that), it's fully decked out in towers with turrets. unless you've got a reason, you won't appreciate the long trek up here, but the view from so high up is terrific.
the front gates even after you maneuver past the statues of winged boars and leering stone gargoyles which sit near the front gates, you've still got a ways to go on a long, winding cobblestone path - or across the lake, if you prefer - before you arrive at the actual castle.

the grassy lawns when the weather is nice, it seems the entire student body convenes outside, because the choice spots under the fluffy, magnicently shady trees are always occupied by giggling schoolgirls or wry, smirking boys. the generously sized grounds are littered with lovely gardens, and the grassy lawns slope down to border the lake and the forbidden forest. be careful not to wander too close a certain violent tree.
the great lake it's lovely during warmer days, when the giant squid propels itself lazily across the otherwise still surface of the water. other creatures live here too, like merfolk (way on the bottom) and grindylows, which you'll want to be wary of if you're one of the more daring and decide to go for a swim.
the forbidden forest all sorts of creatures dwell in the forest, from man-sized spiders to pearly, shining unicorns. the forest is strictly off-limits to students, save for a few exceptions, because of the wild and dangerous creatures which reside within. only the gamekeeper, rubeus hagrid, seems to be able to enter without fear.

the greenhouses a collection of several teeming greenhouses sit near the castle, their contents seperated by level of danger; herbology classes are held inside them, with the older students taking on more perilous tasks.
the quidditch pitch quidditch in the wizarding world, and at hogwarts no less, has always been a big (wildly competitive) affair, and the entire school turns up for the games. the pitch is on the opposite side of the castle from the forest, and it's fringed by the locker rooms and the broom shed.
platform nine and three-quarters the platform which lies behind a solid metal barrier between platforms nine and ten, accessible each september first when the clock overhead approachs eleven in the morning. on this day each year, a crowd of wizarding children turns curious heads, but they all manage to get through the barrier unnoticed, and without much ado.
hogsmeade a quaint, picturesque little village, composed entirely of thatched wizard cottages and shops. hogsmeade is located just down the road from hogwarts, so eligible students can visit the village on select saturdays during the school year. hogsmeade station, on the other side of hogwarts grounds, drops students off at the beginning of each school year.
diagon alley a long, cobbled street containing an exciting array of shops and restaurants. all hogwarts students come here before the beginning of each new school year to shop for all the necessities on their school supply lists.
st. mungo's hospital adapted from an abandoned department store st. mungo's was founded in the late 1500s or even early 1600s by mungo bonham. unlike some wizardly places st. mungo's is visible to muggles - however the sign on the front reads 'closed for refurbishment' to them and a dummy in the front window is actually a gatekeeper. to enter the hospital a wizard must talk to the dummy and then walk straight through the window.
order of the phoenix headquarters walburga black is still very much alive, puce-faced and screaming, so number 12 grimmauld place isn't yet the order headquarters.

death eater operations the death eaters gather in a creepy, deserted home, more specifically the riddle house. there's a muggle man who lives in a shack on the grounds, who hasn't stepped foot in the house for a while - he still tends to the gardens, being the riddles' former gardener and all.

elsewhere there is a world outside of the largely advertised wizarding britain, you know, even if you don't care to remember it when you're drowning in drama and schoolwork within hogwarts castle.
hellogoodbye we're all friends here. or we will be, once we all know each other, so post here with a few tidbits about yourself. also, if you're going to be poofing for a bit, post and tell us why. <3
