Travis eased his foot onto the brake pedal of his Toyota Tundra, steering his truck into a parking position in front of his kid sisters home that she shared with her husband. Having finally been able to move in some furniture into his new home in Lawrence and get Maya settled as well as get his new job at the local gym squared away, Travis was dying to see how Ryder was doing since her back injury. Having talked to his sister frequently since he'd been away, he knew about what had happened to her, and now that he'd moved back home he was excited to see her. After seeing his sister, his parents was next on his list, then maybe stopping by Dean Winchesters garage to say hey if he wasn't home with Ryder during this drop in.

Putting his truck into 'P', Travis twirled down the volume of "The Kentucky Headhunters" that he had blasting through the speakers and pulled his keys out of the ignition. Angling his broad form out of his truck, Travis shut the door behind him and took a large breath of fresh Kansas spring air, his wide chest rising and falling with the inhale. He took a few long legged strides towards teh front door of his sisters home, rolling his shoulder as it was stiff this morning. Travis had yet to work it out but he was planning on having a nice long session tonight, maybe take a run with Maya too as she could always use the excersise and more importantly the energy waster. His dog was quite hyperactive when she didn't have enough to do.

With the tune to TKH's "Dumas Walker" still playing in his head, Travis closed the gap between him and the door to his sisters home and knocked lightly against the door. "Brother-gram for Mrs.Ryder Winchester!" He called, his voice booming through the door but holding nothing but affection for the woman he was waiting for. He had missed his 'midget' while he'd been away and sometimes phone calls and emails just wasn't enough. In fact it wasn't. Travis wanted to show her how much he'd improved since his injury and he wanted, mostly, to check on her. Because no matter what Ryder said about her healing just fine, he wanted to see with his own eyes. And it just gave him another excuse to see his kid sister. "Don't worry! I'm patient! Take your time!" He called again through the door, a grin on his face.

Ryder had managed to take a quick shower and was in the process of towel drying her damp hair, her mismatched eyes watching as it slowly dried into a soft wave. Normally she would find ways to avoid leaving her hair natural, but with her back the way it was, doing her hair and make up wasn't so important anymore. Sitting on the bed with her back as straight as she could get it without hurting her, Ryder watched the television lazily. It was the second day that she'd been home by herself, her husband had finally returned to work with her promising to call him if she needed him, even for the tiniest of things. As she found herself pondering whether or not to put on a movie, her train of thought was thrown off track by the soft ringing of her cell phone on her bed side table. Smiling softly, Ryder read the message Dean had sent her before assuring him once again that she was okay.

After returning her cellphone back onto the table, Ryder carefully leaned back into the pillows that had been stacked up so she could sit up comfortably in the bed. With a yawn, the young woman flicked channels, her only aim was to find something that wouldn't bore her to sleep. She'd had far too much sleep lately and was desperate to go a day with having only one nap before bed, she just hoped that she was awake to spend some time with her husband when he returned home from work. Settling on the comedy channel and a Scrubs marathon, that would definitely keep her happy for the time being.

Ryder was soon pulled away from the television by a booming voice echoing through the house, a booming voice that she could recognize anywhere. Even if he hadn't already given his identity away, Ryder would always know her big brother's voice. A wide grin spread on the woman's face as she slowly raised herself up off of the bed and made her way down to answer the door, her steps small because even the slightest jolt seemed to bother her a fair deal still. She was coping with the pain better now, learning how to move in ways that would cause the least amount of pain. Chuckling at her brother's comments, Ryder finally reached the front door and unlocked it, her eyes lighting up as she raised them to her brother's face.

"Jesus, did you get taller again or what?" she teased, her small hand gripping the door as if it were the only thing keeping her on her feet. While she knew that she was healing but that didn't mean that it didn't hurt like a bitch sometimes. "Come in, Kong." she beamed, stepping out of his way a little and hoping silently that her protective big brother would help her back to the bed. "Ignore the lack of sofa, I'm sure Momma''s told you it's been.. burned."

Travis leaned his shoulder lazily against the wall, waiting for the door to open. He hoped that somehow Dean was home from his job and Ryder didn’t have to get up. Better yet Travis wished he hadn’t lost the key she’d given him a long time ago so he could come in on his own. He didn’t want her to have to get up with her back the way it was. He ran a hand through his short crew cut and rubbed the back of his neck, looking up as the front door suddenly swung open, revealing his small sister in the door way. Travis straightened to his full height, grinning at her, but he could tell she was in pain which bothered him. The way she was gripping the door almost made him wince in pain for her but he returned her teasing smile. “Naw…you just got shorter.” He said with a grin, his eyes lighting up seeing Ryder.

Ducking his head under the door and entering his sisters home with one long stride, Travis quickly moved to face her, looking Ryder up and down, his brown eyes seeping with concern. She’d always been small, his own little elf, but for some reason with a back injury, she looked more frail then she used to. Ryder had always been able to hold her own, even around a guy as large as him but something was different and that didn’t sit well with him. Travis’s gaze flickered to the couch-less living room and he nodded. “Yeah…she filled me in.” He said and looked back down at Ryder, a frown pulling at his lips. “It’s good to see you little sis.” Travis said with a warm smile and leaned down, pressing a kiss onto the top of her head.

With his older brother protective streak flaring, Travis tilted his head to the side. “Come on midget, lets you get back to bed.” He said, flinching at the pain he knew she had to be in. “Wrap your arms around my waist and use me as a balancer. I’ll do most of the walking for us.” He winked at her, knowing he could easily hold her weight. “So I guess I shouldn’t ask how you’re doing?” Travis said, his voice low, brows furrowing above concerned chocolate colored eyes.

Whenever Travis was in town, Ryder's life felt complete. Leaving her big brother behind in Texas had been hard for her, the two had shared so much growing up that she found herself missing him more and more the longer they were apart. Watching as her brother stood back up straight and returned to his full height, Ryder smiled so wide she thought her cheeks might explode. "Whatever you have to keep tellin' yourself, Trav." she replied, a cheeky look in his mismatched eyes as she continued to gaze up at her giant older brother. She knew that he'd come to see her because he didn't believe that she was okay each time she told him on the phone, but a large part of the small woman wanted her big brother to stay with the rest of their family in Lawrence. Ryder hated when she had to say good by to him, no matter how long they'd live states away, it didn't make it easier.

Once Travis had entered the home she shared with her husband, Ryder closed the door and stayed as still as she could. Despite feeling better, standing for too long spelled out pain for her but it was getting easier to live with now. A chuckle passed her lips when Travis explained that their mother had filled him in on the phone, it didn't bother her. They were a fairly close knit family, shared close to everything together so this was just another moment in her life that her family shared with her."I thought she might've. It was a piece of crap anyways.." she explained, shrugging her shoulders carefully. Her eyes lifted back up to her brother when he expressed that it was good to see her, her lips curled into a fond smile when he pressed a kiss into her hair. "It's good to see you too. I almost forgot what you looked like.." she teased, not really remember when she'd seen him last. It had to be a toss up between her wedding and christmas, her memory wasn't really working in her favour when she was taking any kind of pain killers.

Ryder nodded her head and moved closer without any kind of argument, Travis was more than capable of getting her back to her bed - just as Dean was. Carefully she wrapped her arms around his waist and took a deep breath, her head leaning against her big brother just a little. "Thanks.." she whispered, smiling up at him. As they made their way toward the bedroom, Ryder laughed at her brother's question and smiled warmly, her head shaking just a little. "Actually, you can.. A week ago that question would have earned you a scolding, but this week it's okay." she chuckled, before she prepared herself to answer the question. "I'm actually feeling a lot better. Dean said that the bruising is still fairly dark, but I can move easier and the pain is so much duller.."

After a moment, Ryder looked up at her brother and tilted her head to the side, her eyes full of a curiosity she knew that he'd pick up on. "So, instead of making this whole visit about me. Let's talk about you, huh? How are you? And more importantly, how long do I have my brother for this time?" she asked, looking up at him. Her eyes fell on her bedroom door, her lips curling into a smile when she could hear the next episode of Scrubs starting. "Wanna watch a Scrubs marathon with me? S'your job to get the popcorn and drinks though. I'm not fit to entertain, sorry." she joked, moving away from Travis when she felt confident enough to get herself back to her bed on her own. She was in good hands anyway, if she lost her balance or anything, Travis would be at her side in a heartbeat. Ryder knew that.

Travis had desperately missed his kid sister. They’d been so close growing up that the distance between them for the past few years had been hard to bear. The move from Texas to Kansas had been for his mothers career and he had supported that with all his heart but that didn’t mean it helped to lessen missing his family. His father had tried to convince him to move back home after his injury in the game, but Travis had kept his determination to get himself back to full health from this on his own. Travis returned his sisters grin, one so huge and warm it was clear that it was a smile he saved only for his family. “I’ll tell myself whatever I need too, Midget.” He playfully winked at her. He was glad suddenly that the draft he was planning on getting into was in Kansas, just outside Lawrence. It meant he could stay near home, see his family more because he knew that if this had just been a visit, it would have been hard for him to leave at all.

Looking at his sister, Travis frowned, realizing she was in pain. That hurt him but he tried to keep it out of his expression. Ever since Ryder had been born, Travis had always protected her with the fierceness that only an older brother could have. And it hurt that he couldn’t help her with this. “No shit. It deserves to lie in a very crappy grave.” He snorted and shook his head. Once he kissed her head, Travis lifted his head back up, smiling down at her. “Forgot what I looked like? Pfft. I grew an inch, if you didn’t notice.” He teased, trying to think back to the last time he’d seen her or his family. It had to have been during Christmas just after his injury, though he couldn’t be positive. Travis let his eyes scan her home, feeling a little surge of pride swell in his chest. Ryder had done great for herself, and he couldn’t help but feel proud of her. Waiting for his sister to wrap her arms around his waist, Travis carefully maneuvered her back to the bedroom.

Using extreme caution not to move her too fast or make any movements with his giant form that would hurt her, Travis helped Ryder back inside her room. “Hey, what’re big brothers for?” Travis flashed her a warm smile and shook his head, listening to her tell him how she was feeling. “Ok good, so I won’t get a scolding for asking now. Phew.” He chuckled softly, waiting for her to continue. Frowning a bit at the mention of her bruises, Travis swallowed and slowly nodded his head. He knew Dean was taking care of her. He didn’t trust many with his sisters care, or with his sister in general but Dean was one of them. The man was good for her, and a good guy in general. Travis had made sure of that when the two had started dating. He almost felt a little bad that he’d tried to scare the guy into keeping Ryder safe but knew it was just his nature. Travis wouldn’t hurt anyone, despite his size, anyway. “I’m glad to hear that. How much longer will it take to heal?” He asked.

Noticing her curious expression, Travis chuckled. “I wanted this visit to be about you. I’m so boring.” He snorted, joking and then chuckled at the twinge of impatience in her question about how long he’d be staying. Travis figured that question would be one of, if not, the first question she asked him. “Slow down miss reporter.” He teased her. “I’m fine, sis. Working out the shoulder and finally getting back into shape.” Travis said, his arm carefully holding Ryder in a way he hoped wasn’t hurting her. “And that’s actually something I was going to talk to you about. Lets get you back to bed rest and I’ll tell you.” Travis flashed her a grin. He wasn’t going to be able to hide the fact that he wanted to get in on the NFL draft from her. He wasn’t ready to tell Mom and Dad, knowing they’d just worry about him getting hurt again but it was too hard to keep a secret from his little sister. “Sure. I got all day cleared for you.” He assured her and watched her hobble over to her bed, stepping right behind her, his arms slightly raised just in case she lost her balance and needed help. “So you’re even into the medical comedies? You’re so like Mom.” Travis grinned and made sure she was good in bed before stepping back. “Oh good, cause I’m starving. I was hoping I’d be able to raid your fridge. Whadd’ya want?” He asked.

Ryder had been blessed with an amazing family, her parents had worked hard to give her brother and her all that they would need in life. Both she and Travis attended college, they were happy and healthy. Even once they'd both moved out of home, the bond had stayed strong. They would both always stick together and their parents would always be there for them. It was comforting to have such a close family, even if Travis was still based back home in Texas. They kept in touch, but nothing was as good as being together in the same place, where they could laugh and joke and play games with one another. It was only when she was with either Dean or her big brother that Ryder let loose and allowed herself to be immature; to forget about med school and finals.

"Yeah. Dean said something similar, though, I can't be too sure about what I said. I'm not so good with morphine, as you probably remember." she replied, watching her brother's face as he chuckled. It amazed her that the friendly giant wasn't married, he was a fantastic big brother and he truly cared about the people around him. He'd inherited their father's good looks, the girls at school had always swarmed to him. Perhaps he was too focused for all that stuff, or maybe, he just never found the right person to settle down with. "Yeah. Almost. Did you get uglier too? Or do I need glasses?" she teased, beaming up at him as she relaxed into their usual banter. She noted the way that he looked around and wondered what exactly he was doing, it wasn't like he'd never been to her place before. Nothing much had changed, aside from the fact that she and her husband were now minus a sofa.

"I thought big brothers were for annoying the shit out of?" she quipped, allowing her brother to help her as much as he wanted to. Ryder knew that he wasn't going to let up on taking care of her, he was too protective for that. So she would let him do what ever he wanted and revel in his company. Ryder couldn't count how many times she could have counted on him to keep her company when she wasn't feeling the greatest. Her memories went right back to being a four year old girl who had accidentally been knocked through the glass door of her father's office back at their old family farm. One of her latest ones would have been when her supposed boyfriend had stood her up on prom night, Travis had stayed with her in her room watching movies all night until she finally fell asleep. "Nope. No scoldings for you today, big brother. Just some much needed time spent with your adorable baby sister." she countered, winking playfully at him.

Tilting her head to the side, Ryder tried to think over an answer to his question. How long would it take to heal? God only knew, really. The bruising had been gross, from what she'd seen in the mirror and the pain had been considerably bad. "Not too much longer, I hope. I've got finals comin' up." she answered, her voice soaked with honesty. Rolling her eyes at her brother's attempts to keep conversation squarely on her, Ryder shook her head and shifted on the bed a little. Once she found a comfortable position, she leaned back and waited for her brother to either make himself comfortable or disappear to raid the fridge. "Does it still hurt?" she asked, nodding to his shoulder. Yawning a little, Ryder tried to hold back the want to throttle him as he continued to keep the conversation directed at her. He had something to tell her, something big but he was stalling. This couldn't be good.

"Nah-Uh. Sure, Scrubs is a medical show but it has plenty of funny random moments. C'mon Trav, I know you love it. Admit it. You watch Scrubs when you're alone at home." she teased, completely okay with being told she was like their mother. It was the truth to a point, she idolized their mother. Thought she was the strongest lady in the world. Snorting at her big brother, Ryder shook her head and pointed toward the kitchen. "Popcorn!" she repeated, with a huge smile on her face, her mismatched eyes alight with excitement. "And a can of lemonade, please."
