"Is a princess really different from a peasant girl?
When our hearts break, we shed the same tears.
Does anyone deserve less than a chance at happiness
When will all share the same hopes and fears?"

pictures of you

Hair Color: Akiva has a very typical shade of dirty blonde hair. She once experimented with red, though she found she infinitely prefers her naturally blonde hair. If she is feeling daring, she might reintroduce the red, but not any time soon.
Eye Color: A simple blue.
Height: Five feet and Three Inches
Weight: One Hundred Fifteen Pounds
Tattoos: None.
Piercings: Her ears.
Clothing Style: For work, Kiki has a very appropriate wardrobe. She loves lots of colors and really being someone that’s hard to miss. She is a big fan of skirts and pretty tops, also a fan of colorful accessories; she’s a teacher that is young and hip, but still professional. She dresses to reflect her sunny self and enjoys, on the weekends, to take advantage of tank tops and flip flops, rather than the things she wears for work.
Defining Characteristics: She has a funny tooth that she’s had since she was a small child. She could have gotten it fixed, but she thought it was rather charming.

Overall Personality:
Akiva has always been a young lady with ambitions. Now, they’re not the ambitions to be president or a lawyer or something like that, but rather to help people. Her family was small and they were very dedicated people, with one parent as a teacher and the other a very successful accountant, they were never wanting for anything. She was taught from a very young age to make sure that because she had everything she could want, to brighten the lives of others, even if it was in a small way. Her whole family would do public service trips, usually through their temple, and it bred in her the passion for doing what is best for other people. She has offered a hand to anyone who has needed it and she’s a very bright and bubbly person – the glass is almost always half full.

Quick to make friends, Akiva is a people person. Her attitude lends her towards being drawn to those that may seem like they don’t have anyone else and showing them that things can get better. With this sort of responsibility delegated upon herself, Akiva has a host of not so expected friends. Not only that, but it hard to imagine how happy she really is, considering everything she surrounds herself with. But, she has a lot of faith in the things she believes in and is more than happy to accept that which she cannot see in hopes that things are really as good as she thinks they are at the end. Her personal philosophy is also to never live a day without laughter and her job is more than equipped for that.

She is incredibly out going and dedicated, willing to put herself out there and make a fool of herself to see anyone smile. It extends to her classroom demeanor where Miss Ki is a sweet, but funny, and clumsy teacher. She doesn’t get short tempered (though she isn’t weak, by any means), at least not with little kids. She can get upset with adults, especially those that don’t really invest a lot of time in their children’s education at such a young age. As a second grade teacher, she sees a lot of students being set up for failure without the involvement of a parent in their educational careers. It breaks her heart and thusly, she takes the education process very seriously – and she’s extremely moral about it. Cutting corners is not something she condones or appreciates from anyone.

A large part of her trust in the human race has been dwindled down though. Her last boyfriend, Francesco, drained her of the real drive to find someone special. She had been almost convinced he was the one, but when he dumped her and moved on to another woman in almost no time after a lengthy relationship, a lot of her hopes were dashed. She suffered from a deep wound, and it’s still working on healing itself. As a safe guard, she devotes a lot of time and energy to her class now and has withdrawn a little, at least from those of a male sex. She still fawns over them, but she doesn’t put herself out there. She has a lot of fears regarding the future and her own status, shaken by what happened with Franc, but she has a hope, not so much faith, that things will pick up.

Relationship with Family: Akiva has always had a very strong relationship with her family. Her mother and father were her closest confidants when she was young and unlike most teenagers, she never really rebelled from them. Their relationship was close and she did what she could to please them, since she was the only one. They were also moderately well off, which allowed them to give her the attention she craved. They did what they could for their daughter and spent time with her as much as they could. They were also very devoted to her education. They were always pushing her to do her best and really gave her a lot of opportunities to explore what she wanted to do.

Her extended family hasn’t had much contact with them. Being from the Northeast, they don’t get down to Kentucky much, and they don’t really like the way of living. It’s nothing against Akiva, but they don’t really like where she has chosen to live and work. However, they understand that it’s where she went to school and what she wants to do. The family is really open to her and when she was broken up with and had her miscarriages, her mother did come down to stay with her for a while to make sure everything was fine. There’s a lot of love in the house, even if it’s not always obvious and despite any problems they have, the family comes together. It’s a very holiday oriented relationship at the moment though,

Best Memory: Getting hired at the elementary school was her best memory. She had student taught in the same school and loved the community so much. It seemed like somewhere she could really see herself living and getting the job at the elementary school after the impromptu retirement of Mrs. Bailey really gave her something to look forwards to. There are so many things that it’s done for her, so it really is her best memory.
Worst Memory: One memory is three separate recollections of the same scenario. A month or so pregnant, just getting ready to let Francesco, better known as Franc, know about it she would get horrible cramps in her lower abdomen. The first time, it was terrifying. She started to bleed and everything seemed to get fuzzy. After getting herself to the hospital, she found out what happened and went home making up a made up story for why she was in so much pain. Of course, it happened twice more. Finally, (a second memory) when she did tell him, he exploded. He dumped her on the spot and was with another woman the next week. It left a really bad taste in her mouth.

Brief Biography:
Born in the state of New York, Akiva Katz was a blessing to her small, traditional family. There were two people to start the family, Isaac and Nora Katz, both of whom were settled in their careers and had a home in a suburb of New York City. They lived comfortably and made sure they saved before having their only child. Akiva was planned for a long time, they weren’t sure what gender child they would have and planned accordingly, having all the names picked out and the room set in a neutral tone of yellow before she was even born. It seemed like they had everything taken care of, and indeed, this planning paid off when their daughter was born.

The reason they never planned for more than one child was that they were a rather affluent family, educated, and felt that keeping too many children would not only cost more later in life, but detract from the experience of just having one and loving her as much as they could. Akiva benefited from this kind of treatment and their lives were governed by a distinct contentment. She went through school as a pious, intelligent young woman and she was always doing her best to succeed in everything. She was also an active child and played soccer when she was little, but gave it up when she reached middle school.

Now, her parents raised her in a Jewish household and she went through her Bat Mitzvah when she was thirteen, but otherwise, they weren’t overly religious. She continues to keep the traditions with her, but she isn’t overly concerned with maintaining the connection to a Temple or practicing. She’s more concerned with living by the rules laid out for her as a person. When she got to high school, she and her parents starting to become concerned about where she would be going with her life. She had always said she wanted to be a teacher, but it wasn’t something she seriously considered until she became a junior.

Akiva was used to doing community service by this time, that anything seemed to be up her alley. Helping at food shelters in the city, running supplies back and forth, helping with Temple service trips, it all seemed so routine. But, it wasn’t until she started to volunteer at a local Boys and Girls club that she realized how much she loved to work with little kids. She had a deep passion for it, but it also led her to wonder where she wanted to go to school and what she wanted to do with herself. Well, she wasn’t really as fast paced as the Northern portions of the United States were, and she felt like she wanted to try something different. After applying to school in Kentucky, she was accepted and decided that she would go there – setting up her life far from where she had grown up.

It made her nervous, but the rest of the family was supportive, and although they knew she would probably never return to New York for a career, she would come visit and be helpful to someone somewhere else. She had a good time at school and met Francesco DeCavi when she was still quite young. She had a few boyfriends before, but he was a bit older than her, had a budding career as a journalist and seemed to be set. Akiva had always wanted to have that sort of deep connection with someone, and it had seemed like she found it in Franc. They were a great couple, everyone said so, and she really felt like she loved him more than anything else.

When she ended up pregnant, well, at first, she was terrified. It was her sophomore year of college! They hadn’t been dating that long! She didn’t tell anyone, she didn’t even really know at first. Then, she found out – so excited, but scared, but happy, as she thought Franc would stick it out with her and their life would be set in stone, she was getting ready to set up something special to tell him – but, then it happened. Akiva had a miscarriage. That summer was very hard for her; thankfully she returned home from school and stayed with her mother, who helped her through it. Things were hard, but it didn’t leave a lot of room for Franc to question her about what had happened, she just said that she had a really bad bug.

They continued to date, Akiva put it behind her. With a few trips to the college’s psychiatrist things were better and it seemed to be put behind her. They resumed their relationship as normal and she returned to her schoolwork with a renewed vigor. She knew she had to do well and because it was her passion to be a teacher, she did her best to study and hone her skills. She also continued her dedication to community service during this time, volunteering around the city in any sort of place that she could be of some use to someone.

However, late in her junior year, Akiva felt like something was going wrong again. She went to the doctor’s and confirmed it – she was pregnant, again. It seemed that they were quite a fertile couple. But, Akiva was even more guarded this time. She was so happy that she was actually able to conceive (after having read a miscarriage can destroy that), but then, she worried that it would happen again. Her worries were, unfortunately, founded. Unexpected, it happened again, this time while she was at home for spring break. Her mother knew, once again, and was there for her when she needed her, but had to send her back to school – she had to finish and couldn’t afford to take a semester off. The rest of the school experience went by face and Akiva headed home for the summer, telling Franc she needed to be with her family.

She enjoyed the summer quite a bit, reconnecting with old friends and spending a lot of time in the city to distract herself. She knew things weren’t the same, and that changes were inevitable, but Akiva persisted. She wanted to remain as happy as she could, it just seemed so hard. When she went to the doctor’s, they were hard pressed to find something really wrong with her – but, after several blood tests and other tests, it was confirmed that she had a syndrome that made having children quite improbable. It crushed a lot of the dreams she had about having a family, at the time anyway. She held in hope that she would be able to, you know, defy odds and have what she wanted. With a little bit of continued therapy and the strength of her mother behind her, Akiva went back to school.

When she came back from that summer, into her senior year, she started to student teach in a second grade classroom. Akiva was ecstatic. She loved her students, absolutely adored them, and managed to make it through the hard time. Things with Franc were getting a little strained though, and though Akiva attempted to blame it on the stress of student teaching, she was really afraid to get close to him. She didn’t want to admit what happened, especially because she really wanted a family of her own, and she graduated in the spring, thinking things were getting better. Of course, the situation didn’t get much better.

Things continued to be strained and she wouldn’t open up to him. It seemed like she would be letting him down. His Greek family had an idea for him; he had an idea for himself. They wanted a big family, lots of kids, and a house and all those things – Akiva seemed to fulfill their ideal image, but what they didn’t know was that she was hiding something that would destroy all of that. They moved in together the year after she graduated, giving Akiva time to settle down and work some schools while Franc continued his work on a few newspapers. He seemed lined up for a big promotion, which would further some of the things they planned.

But, as soon as things seemed to be picking up – again. Akiva was devastated. This time, without the money to run home to her mother, she had to find the courage to break down the wall with Francesco and talk to him about what happened. She thought he would be supportive, but apparently, it was too big of a secret for him to accept. He didn’t want to be supportive; he didn’t want to handle the situation the right way. Instead, he was incredibly angry at her and moved out of the apartment a week after she told him. The already emotionally fragile Akiva Katz was heart broken, having to explain to her mother over the phone what happened and then have her fly down as soon as she could.

Of course, as a good mother, Nora was down there the next day, ready to attend to her daughter and pick up the ball where Franc had dropped it. What really put the nail in the coffin was when Franc was spotted in town with another woman almost immediately after. He didn’t seem to have much concern for Akiva and everything they shared together was lost in a short time. The young woman was crushed; absolutely devastated over everything that happened. If her mother hadn’t been around, it wasn’t really definite about what would have happened. However, a few weeks later, Akiva received notice that she was hired at the local elementary school, the principal had liked her so much during her student teaching that she wanted to hire her after another teacher retired.

Since, Akiva has used her job as a shield. She gets to be around the children she loves so much and interact with people all of the time; however, she can be as closed up as she wants about her personal life. She has a lot of friends that keep her busy and her work is something she would never give up. Currently, she’s still attending therapy, though it’s a secret, and recovering slowly from the problems that plagued her before. Not too many people would guess the problems that she’s had, but it’s a personal demon behind that pretty smile.

QUOTE
When Brogan tensed up, it was a general knowledge sort of thing that something was drastically wrong. Of course, it didn’t usually bother her as he was always on edge about something – she figured the drink did it – however, when she turned her head to glance behind them, it seemed that his worry had credence this time. There were several angry shopkeepers glaring at them, and it didn’t seem like it was just because they were defiling their storefronts with their presence. This was a more… personal anger.

Inclining her head towards him, Mariana hissed, “What did you do last night?” Of course, she was not quick to receive an answer as other plans were obviously being worked on in that giant head of his. Oh, she was going to beat the beanpole to nothing when they got back to camp! How she would love to take that damned stick he always carried around and give him a good whack or two with it – after this, she was sure Styles would agree, as would Adria. Then, she would promptly prop him up in her tent and leave him there, occasionally making sure he didn’t stop breathing or choke on his own tongue. She would only give him two pillows this time, instead of his typical five or six though – if she had to run anywhere, he was going to get it.

Naturally though, the lady was unprepared for Brogan’s unusually quick sprint and the gypsy was teetering for a moment. Vodka, in full knowledge of his real owner, stuck close by the gypsy girl, who jingled with every uneven step. Her heavy skirt and coin laden ‘shirt’ were enough to drag her downwards as she tripped repeatedly, heading down the road, but in a zigzag pattern that made her seem to be the drunken one. How was it that at a moment such as this, he was able to retain full capacity of his faculties while she stumbled along with the dog going underfoot as well – perhaps the problem was it was one of his escapes, not her own. If she had planned this, it would have gone exceedingly better.

But, as she skidded, arms first (as she had to protect her face) onto the street, Mariana let out a yelp and hiss, laying splayed out as she heard the feet quickly approaching with harsh words bubbling from throats and pouring out – anger directed at her escaping friend. Of course, he was exceedingly lucky that she was providing a distracting because, as she peered upwards from the crook of her elbow, pairs of black shoes greeted her and she looked up the grey pants into the face of a rather angry man with an ugly, walrus mustache. His fat cheeks reddened with anger.

He seemed far more than upset and Mariana, in her own state, sat up slowly and brushed her hair out of her face, taken aback as the man leaned close – she discovered he smelled like a distillery – and glared at her, straight in the eyes. “What the hell do you think you’re doing here, gypsy?” he snarled, grabbing her chin with his sausage fingers and tilting her chin up towards him, “Where’d the thief go?” he growled, low and deep, his fingernails digging into the fine flesh of her cheeks. She winced, not accustomed to rough treatment and she had to think quickly – the men standing around her weren’t going to be very patient. Vodka growled behind him, hunching low to the ground with a vicious look in his eye – hurting Mariana was going to get him violently attacked. His fingers dug harder as she hesitated further and Mar hissed lightly, slapping away his hand with quite some force, she saw Vodka at the same time bite his ankle before retreating – good dog.

“How the hell should I know?” she sneered as he raised his reddened hand, ready to swing and swipe her across the face. However, she crouched before rising to her feet and stared at him, “I was being a good Christian, Sir. I don’t even know who that was,” she stared at him, the God card always seemed to work – and he lowered his hand back down to his side. Her chin and cheeks were already throbbing from his strong grip; she would probably have a deep purple bruise. The group of shop keepers grumbled and dispersed, leaving the gypsy and Vodka in the middle of the street. Shaking her head, she was rather shaken by the whole experience and smoothed out her clothes, sighing with relief. That could have gone much worse. Looking down to Vodka, she mused, “I guess we have to find the git now,” she thought out loud, to which Vodka wagged his tail and pushed forward.

He had been running towards the slums, so Mariana headed that way, accompanied by the dog and her own sense of street smarts. Knowing Brogan, he had run oh… half a mile and then got distracted by something else – either booze or a woman, and Mariana, depending on which it was would be far less relenting for the latter. How dare he, she thought to herself, after she had almost gotten herself beat to a pulp for him! Frowning, she looked towards the pubs on the street and grimaced, there were quite a few to go through, but she started the journey quickly enough, excluding the first few almost immediately – they didn’t want a gypsy anywhere NEAR their establishments, meaning Brogan had no place in there.

As she got further down the street, she began to enter the pubs that wouldn't care whether or not she was a gypsy or a French citizen, as long as she had money. Of course, some drove her away simply by the stares she received, but it finally became obvious as to where the lanky bastard was when she entered a rather dingy looking place, almost completely deserted and saw a little glass on a table, and a very tall man tangled in the chair near it - looking beat up. She tensed her jaw - throb and wince - and stomped up to the table, swiftly whacking him on the back of the head, "Have you learned nothing?!"
