Did Nintendo put in Missingno from pokemon red and blue on the side of Cinnabar island on purpose?

no, that was simply the name that was set as default for the remaining hexidecimal values for the pokemon. As result, if you went into that area, and got into a battle, it pooled from a bunch of unused hex, thus giving you the "Missingno" name.

And no, MissingNo is not in Pokémon Fire Red or Leaf Green versions.

i forget the exact reason that it happens, but it has something to do with some data that gets stored in your name (i think its the type of pokemone in a certain area or something). That data is changed or deleted whenever you talk to the coffee guy (because it changes your name to OLD MAN in the battle). When you go to cinnabar island, since theres no pokemon that are supposed to be there then somehow this makes the glitch pokemon show up. it is named MISSINGNO. (missing number) because its not an actual pokemon, and if there is a pokemon in a battle thats number isn't within 001-151 then the game either says "MISSINGNO." or some glitched-up symbols.
btw- i know all this because i was into pokemon, but i've forgotten the specifics because i am not into pokemon very much anymore. but there used to be a website, i dunno if its still there but i forget what its called, it said that the real pokemon that are over lv 100 that can be caught there during the missingno cheat are directly influenced by what you name yourself, and it gave a list of the letters you needed to put in which order to get which pokemon at which level. and mew wasn't one of them, so don't even try restarting your game hoping to find mew.

one thing though, why does missingno elvolve into kanghaskhan when it levels up?

you're wrong. thats not missingno that your talking about, thats m-block (his name is glitched). That glitch is more dangerous than missingno. never catch an m-block if your party is full, it will go to your pc but you can't do anything after that. if you try to withdraw it or release it, it will freeze/crash your game. but if your party isn't full and you catch it, then when it levels up it will evolve into kangaskan (for no reason, probably something else with variables).
however, missingno is able to be withdrawn from the pc, and it can turn (not evolve) into rhydon if you keep depositing and withdrawing him from a pc.

These older games are so glitch-ridden....that's what makes them cool. :^_^

Oh i loved that glitch. I became the master of red and bule with missingno. That was so awesome.

lol, yeah, you can get infintite stuffs... Plus, in battle, if you use Missingno to attack something else, it turns the other pokemon all crazy and it looks like half a computer chip :/. That was cool, though I've never heard of M-block...

i dunno why you would have never heard of (or seen) m-block. unless there was some variation in the country or year the cartridge was made in that could have affected it, when you do the cofee guy trick to see missingno, you will also see 1-3 high level pokemon, and a pokemon that looks like missingno but its level is really high or really low (i think 0). its name will say []'M[] where the [] are glitch symbols.
and i'm not sure, it might depend on the contry/year your game was made, or maybe it depends on the letters of your name, but i heard that there are also 2 other missingnos, these two have pictures but no pokedex entry. one of them's picture is the ghost from ghost tower, the other one is one of the skeleton fossil things from the museum.

i pretty sure you can transfer missingno to pokemon stadium. i caught M-Block before and i got so mad when it froze my game up.......so i traded it in for credit at gamestop. but something still puzzles me....how did the picture get made.....i remember it had an eye in it.......yup soooooooooooo strange

yeah, supposedly it would mess up your pokemon stadium, but i tried it and nothing happened. in pokemon stadium its picture is the substitue doll thing (looks kinda like a baby kangaskahn or rhydon).
and did m-block mess up your game permenantly? i thought it just messed up the svave file, and you'd need to start a new game? but did you try starting a new game, or just sell it?
btw- what did this "eye" look like? i've never seen it before, but i don't play pokemon anymore, so maybe i just don't remember.

... All I had to do was swim along the right edge of Cinnabar island, and you'd either catch like, lv-100 snorlaxs or something, or a Missingno. ...

Explain how to find missingno please.

Talk to the guy in viridian to teach you how to catch pokemon.
Then surf along the right side of Cinnabar island. It should appear, or, if it doesnt, either a lv. 200-100 or maybe more Snorlax, or Mewtwo will appear.

Oh yeah, catch missingno and your gaame will get messed up and if you win one battle with the over level 100 pokemon, they will go back to level 100.

I dont know, it just makes your pokemon look like blocks, or they may be facing the wrong direction or something.

Ya know whats realy sad the fact people have time to find this stuff, lol!

actually, the snorlax and mewtwo are determined by what you name yourself. there are like 70 different pokemon that can be caught like this, but mew isn't one of them.
and i think that when you carry missingno with you long enough then it stops messing with the graphics (but i'm not sure).

I remember this game, it was fun back then. Now the talk of this glitch u say, I remember doing it! It was funny to catch like these missingos and lv 150 snorlaxs. One this confused me though, whenever some 1 has a missingo, u can do stuf that will mess up your game right? ike if u free it or something? Well, I never recieved n e glitchs as all! Hmm... mabey I had like a super game or something. Sweet! :w00t
