Hey ODUAC,

My name is Matt, and I’m a new graduate student at ODU.

As far as hobbies go, here are a few….I play acoustic guitar (mostly DMB), I like technology, video games both new and old (Final Fantasy, Halo, Shin Megami Tensei, Metal Gear, Mario, Zelda, TES: Oblivion, Shenmue), fitness (need to get back into that one) and nutritious, tasty food (ditto).

Some of my anime favorites are Fullmetal Alchemist, Death Note, DBZ, Akira, and Ghost in the Shell, and Studio Ghibli stuff. I’m just discovering a few less popular series such as Vandread and Ghost Hound. Although I’ve always watched cartoons (and some were anime), I’ve only been a fan of anime for about three years, so please forgive my noobism.

I move down mid-August, and I’ll be walking distance from my campus for the first time ever. It will be awesome to leave behind the practice of predatory parking.

I really look forward to meeting everyone!

And we are looking forward to having you.

By the way, Powdered Toast Man=Win.

Embryon - August 4, 2010 05:36 PM (GMT)
Thanks!

Just when it seems like breakfast is ruined and there's no more powdered toast, he always shows up

welcome

and on a random note, your name makes me think of a ghost pokemon of an aborted eevee.

Ayame_Shimitsu - August 9, 2010 07:16 PM (GMT)
Hi Matt. Nice to meet you. I'm actually living in the dorms now for an internship. Maybe I'll see you around when you move in.

Embryon - August 10, 2010 01:32 AM (GMT)
wraith: Thanks for the welcome. And that's *exactly* what I was going for... ^_^. I actually got that name from a clan in Shin Megami Tensei: Digial Devil Saga. A very cool PS2 game if anyone hasn't played it.

Ayame: That would be cool. Thanks for the shout!

wraith - August 12, 2010 02:23 PM (GMT)
the only games from the series i have played are the ones that have been released stateside for the ds and gba (and i lost my demi-children, aka devil-kids, which annoys the hell out of me).

though, even if i knew the reference, i still would have said that. i try to say something odd in every intro thread.

Embryon - August 14, 2010 03:58 PM (GMT)
To all: I just moved down. If you see a guy walking around campus confused and wielding an ancient camera with tape on it, that's me.

wraith: Those games look really interesting. I hope you find your copy, that'd be cool to see.

And in response to your 'odd' comment, I can only inform you that karate bacon navigators assist the smurf emperor on salad day.

wraith - August 14, 2010 05:43 PM (GMT)
i don't understand. how can the bacon navigators be assisting the smurf king on salad day, when they are usually celebrating on the on the non-vegetarian side of the parade?

Embryon - August 16, 2010 08:24 PM (GMT)
Good question--it’s been a point of contention within the smurf regime. Usually salad day is a time of celebration, though many smurfistorians say there has always been unofficial division. My smurfistory is a little rusty, but I think around veggie year 1245.Corn, The Council of Omnivorous Idealists (COI) began implementing the caesar salad initiative and have been advising Smurf Emperor Zibbie McTaggert how best to unify the groups. This is a controversial issue, and some sources say has caused several attempts to smurf President McTaggert.

wraith - August 17, 2010 01:42 AM (GMT)
wait, are they trying to bad smurf like (like john wilkes booth to lincoln) or good smurf him (like marilyn monroe did behind closed doors to jfk)?

Syaoran - August 18, 2010 02:28 AM (GMT)
Welcome to the club. ODU's okay. Just be wary of walking around at night, going past the school's border, or seeing the Norfolk State Football team that just moved into our new dorms (they fought our team last year and injured some people). Other than that, it's gonna be all right. Our gym is nice.

Embryon - August 18, 2010 06:24 AM (GMT)
wraith: Both? There’s supposedly a lot of intrigue in the McTaggert house.

Syaoran: Thank you very much for the welcome and the advice. So far, my experiences here have been generally positive, though I am still not venturing out that far yet. I did find an amazing comic book store through, so there’s that .

Nerdbaitplus3 - August 23, 2010 05:42 PM (GMT)
Hey there Matt,

We're gonna have a lot more Matt's now in the club, haha. I'm Heather, a junior at ODU as well as the Publicity Head of the club. Basically, I'm the cute face to bring people out to join our fun little nerdy group.

Can't wait to meet you at our first meeting on September 2nd :)

Embryon - August 25, 2010 11:07 PM (GMT)
Thank you, Heather! I look forward to meeting you!

Everybody, I almost forgot...I do have a bit of a schedule thing. I have class until 8:45 on Thursday, which is obviously terrible in terms of being able to go to meetings. Now, I don't plan on letting that stop me from attending, but I am kinda concerned about showing up at 8:50 and interrupting a show--or that I'd miss the meeting entirely. Anyway, I'll be there as soon as I can, and slip in quietly if there's a screening. And if no one's left, then I'll just hang out and play a forlorn melody on my ocarina. Or play the song of storms (ala Zelda) and make it rain inside, though the school would get mad and everything would be soaked. I'll probably just stick with the forlorn thing.

tim_pkmn89 - August 26, 2010 04:56 AM (GMT)
Haha, people actually watching anime at club. That's a good one

At 8:50 there should be about 30-40 left, so don't worry about that.

Embryon - August 26, 2010 05:50 AM (GMT)
Sweet, that's good news. Thanks, Tim. I was thinking it was going to be just me and maybe a few KBNs (karate bacon navigators).
