Hey, guys!

For those of you who don't know, I work as a gallery host over at the Chrysler Museum of Art. For those of you who also don't know, general admission to the Chrysler Museum of Art is now free!!

We will be charging for special exhibitions, and we have "To Live Forever"--an Egyptian exhibition from the Brooklyn Museum--starting October 14th. Unfortunately for students, who used to get into the museum for free before general admission prices went away, will only get a discount to get into the exhibition, so you'll have to fork over $5.

Members, however, can get in for free, and we do offer special student memberships at $25--that's $30 cheaper than an individual membership (which is $55). You also get special perks for being a member!

--Free admission into special exhibitions
--Access to member's only openings, tours, and events
--10% discount in the gift shop and the cafe
--free bi-monthly calendar with information about special exhibitions, events, and goings-on in the museum
--more stuff that I can't remember at the top of my head

The Chrysler Museum of Art is only 10 minutes away from campus (traffic pending) and is in the heart of Ghent near Downtown Norfolk. So if you're looking for something free to do on a weekend, feel free to stop by! We are open:

Wednesday 10 AM to 9 PM (evening programs and events start between 6 and 7)
Thursday thru Saturday 10 AM to 5 PM
Sunday 12 PM to 5 PM
Closed Monday and Tuesday

Hope to see you guys there sometime!

Well.... the whole exhibit thing is weird.... though it might just prompt me into finally getting a membership.

Yay, that makes me happy! If you do get a membership, not only is it good for a whole year, but it also helps keep admission at the museum free since we'll have another way of making money to support the museum. We had some very generous donations that allowed us to do this, and this is something my director has been trying to do for many, many years.

I think you misread his post. smile.gif

Anyways, I hope to make it one of these days.

No, I quoted the wrong post. That's what happened.

And we're only charging for special exhibits, not the whole museum. If you don't want to see the special stuff, you can still see the rest of the museum for free.

Ah, gotcha.

It's more a matter of getting 'round to it for me than the cost. I keep meaning to go but never seem to make it.

If some Friday afternoon a group wants to go, I have 4 extra seats in my car and can easily meet on campus.
