Is there a virus that attacks the modem functionality? I have just formatted my drive C twice for not being able to connect to the internet.
When dialing up my connection the message indicates "NO DIAL TONE"
Can anybody help me on this? In case it happens to me again....
*I have an updated Symantec Antivirus which is set to real time protection*

When you format your hard disk, nakakadial uli right? I don't know, or at least I haven't heard of any known virus targeting modems. It could be the phone cable you're using. But I could be wrong.
E-mail viruses are the most popular today.
Which version of windows are you using by the way?

Actually I just format the partition in which windows is installed.... and yeah, after formatting the partition, I could again use my Internet connection.
Im using a windows Xp professional OS.... I dunno what's wrong with it though..... or maybe my modem might just be malfunctioning from time to time.... which coincides with working after being formatted.

I dunno, maybe you could:
1. have your modem checked (weird problem, though...)
2. install and update your antivirus then scan all your partitions

tips lang:
1. do not open e-mails with attachments if it's from someone you do not know.
2. get a good anti-virus soft like Norton kung free AVG
3. Install a spybot software like spyboy search and destroy
4. bawasan ang pag punta sa mga porn sites ;)

Ok lang mag #4 as long as you have popup blockers, firewall, anti-spyware, and anti-virus (yung tipong scan-everything you look at). Also don't agree to install software from any website (you know yung mga "install blah blah... do you trust blah blah then click yes...")
Oh, I guess it means I also do #4...
